I have that on my to-reads pile. How do you like it so far? The cover really made me laugh.

Carol Just picked up Cane River.

message 17753: by Darcia (new)

Darcia Helle (darciahelle) I recently finished The Wives of Henry Oades by Johanna Moran. This is her debut novel and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical fiction and/or those who simply love a well-told story.

Jamaie | 66 comments I really tried listening to Skeletons at the Feast & got through the first CD & I've decided to quit....it has depressed me in that short time...ugh, I hate feeling that way. I know things have happened in the past that are very hard to take & listen to...but I just can't do it...sorry.

message 17756: by Jamaie (new)

Jamaie | 66 comments Tracy...What's really great about the cover is it's completely relevant to the story...although you'll have to read 1/2 the book to get to that point...LOL.

Jamaie | 66 comments This one did not get high marks from me...mostly because it's a story that keeps getting retold by authors & movies. It's such old news at this point. If you saw "The Pregnancy Pact" on Lifetime..that is this book.

I am now reading A Reliable Wife which I'm finding creepy but compelling.

Thanks, Darcia! I have this on my TBR list. It's good to hear a recommendation for it.

NOT MY DAUGHTER

I think the book was a good read. Yes in some ways it is a told often story. But the parts that make this book stand out to me are the mother daughter relationships, the small town politics, the strength and growth of the characters...I think is is a good read as are all of Barbara delinsky's books, however her newer ones (like this one) really show how honed her craft now is.

Susan (NY) I'm reading The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs and really enjoying it.

It is giving me that urge to read feeling when I am not, which I love!!!:-)

message 17767: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Finished The Color Purple, continuing El Libro de los Amores Ridiculos and People of the Book. Tomorrow I am going to start Crocodile on the Sandbank, which has been a little bit on my TBR and might be a good change in what I am reading recently.

I thought it was pretty good, I enjoyed it. But I had a hard time with the girls' behavior, one in particular annoyed me. I like this author though.

Starting Mudbound by Hillary Jordan

message 17770: by Janny (new)

Janny (jannywurts) | 142 comments Finished The Bone Doll's Twin and sequel after the second try - the trilogy has a creepy overtone running through a well executed, fairly classic fantasy story line. The horror element put me off, at first.

I've got a big stack of TBR. Not sure what I'll grab, yet.

Christine: While I loved Mudbound, this (at times) can be a hard book to read from the standpoint of some of the horrific things that occur in the storyline. It is, however, well written.

message 17773: by Tammy AZ (new)

Tammy AZ (tammyaz) I've recently read some thrillers and horror books and just stepped back into some heavier reading with Infidel and Tears in the Darkness: The Story of the Bataan Death March and Its Aftermath. Both are very good and I'd recommend them but be prepared for sadness at just how badly humans can treat each other.

Alicia (kalypso) | 102 comments I just started Galapagos by Kurt Vonnegut. I was looking for something else at the library but ended up coming home with this. The only other Vonnegut I have read is Slaughterhouse-Five but I have been curious to read some more.

Are you enjoying this book? I have thought about reading it once and then another book looked more interesting.

I am currently reading Joshua Ferris' Then We Came To The End with my book club. Next month we are reading Jonathan Lethem's newest Chronic City as well as J.D. Salinger's The Catcher In The Rye. That's all with the group, but what I have on my night stand goes as follows:
What is What by Dave Eggers
Under My Skin by Doris Lessing
How We Are Hungry by Dave Eggers
Lemon by Lawrence Krauser a.k.a. Lemony Snicket
Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen
Here They Come by Yannick Murphy

I'll be starting Under the Dome in the morning. I need to get that read asap - it was due back at the library a week and a half ago. Oops.

How was Saving Cee Cee Honeycutt? I'm debating buying that one at the moment.

message 17786: by Rene (new)

Rene | 49 comments Saving Cee Cee Honeycutt was a really great book. I read it in one day. It reminded me of The Help but without the civil rights issue.

message 17787: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay...then I must get it. I loved The Help.

Saving Ceecee Honeycutt A Novel by Beth Hoffman

Efe | 181 comments Finally finished 'The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest' by Steig Larsson. Great trilogy, but I'm glad I am done as it did get a bit unnecssarily long winded at times, plus lugging that heavy book all over town was not fun. I started the Hunger Games last hight...very late for the group read I know. I am halfway through, and loving it, I absolutely could not put it down.

message 17800: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) I'm currently reading Gabriel Garcia Marquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude. It's interesting so far but the usage of the same two male names is driving me a bit insane at times because I'd get confused between the generations, lol.
