What are you reading?
I am currently reading a few books: Mystery - The Documents in the Case by Dorothy L. Sayers
Non fiction - The Lady in the Tower by Alison Weir
Historical Fiction - The Sunne In Splendour: A Novel of Richard III by Sharon Kay Penman
1001 - July's People by Nadine Gordimer
I finished Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal last night and really enjoyed it. I recommend it highly if you like wry, sarcastic humour. It's a great story about friendship. Still listening to The Year of the Flood. For those who have read the book: at the end of the chapters told by Adam 1 (his sermons), does the book have the words to the Hymns at the end of the chapter? On the audio, a Hymn is sung and they're quite nice. More like soft rock than hymns but with the essence of the Sermon contained in the words.
I started After the Quake on my lunch break today and am enjoying it so far.
Donna wrote: "Hi Susanna. How did you like Archangel? I have it on my TBR list for a long time now."Hey Donna, this was my first Harris so I don't know what his style is in general. I guess I had high expectations which weren't met. I like historical stuff and a bit of mystery thrown in but I ended up giving it three stars: IMHO, it was just an okay read. But if you like history with mystery, I say go for it because you might like it better than I did :)
Kathy wrote: "I've just started The Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova. I'm excited, as I've been waiting a long time for her next book after my favorite, The Historian."I just picked up the Historian from the used book store today. Heard so much about it I was excited to get it. I don't know how soon I'll get to reading it, but at least it's in my TBR pile.
Reading Anna Karenina currently, and it's pretty good. A little slow for a 21st century 26-year-old male, but pretty good.

I really enjoyed his books, Pompeii and Enigma (which was also a terrific movie), and I have heard good things about Imperium: A Novel of Ancient Rome too.
Dalene wrote: "Kathy wrote: "I've just started The Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova. I'm excited, as I've been waiting a long time for her next book after my favorite, The Historian...."I hope you get to read it soon, Dalene. I really enjoyed Kostova's take on the Dracula legend.

This book looks great. How did you like it Chrystal? And, to repeat Chrystal's question, how are you liking it, Jamaie?

I finished The Speed of Dark at work today. It was really, really cool. She does very interesting things with point of view. Now onto The Hunger Games. A little late for the group read, but oh well.
I'm currently reading Laughter in the Dark by Nabokov and Bad Twin, a book specifically written as a tie in to the show LOST.I'm also starting to read An Essay Concerning Human Understanding by John Locke. This one I'll read in bits and pieces; it will probably take me quite a while.
I just finished a phenomena book by Diane Chamberlain called Breaking the Silence. I recommend it! A couple of twist in the plot that keep you ooh-ing and oh my-ing. After that i started on Wicked. So far im not sure how I feel about it?!?!
Christine wrote: "Just started [image error]"oh keep us updated i was curious as to if this book was good. something about it keeps peaking my intrests and drawing me in!

that was a great book!! i really enjoy Jodi Picoult though. i love the way she writes in that book(giving each character a voice and a font) and i really enjoy her work! the movie isn't too bad except for some serious changes to the outcome!! enjoy!
Jayme wrote: "All the hymns are indeed written out in the book. You're making me want to get a hold of the audio though, it would be cool to here them sung. Now, let us sing. "Thanks, Jayme. The hymns are really nicely done on the audio. So far, I've especially liked the Hymn To Mole Day, which has a child singing along with Adam-1.

Donna, I read several of his books but think I fell in love with Pompeii!!:)

Cait, I liked Laughter in the Dark. It kinda reminded me of the other Lost novel I had read (before reading this one) called Lancelot by Walker Percy. Similar concept, although, of course, Nabokov's came first!!!

I've got a pile of Lost books sitting here on my coffee table and it's so hard to chose what to read next.
Donna wrote: "I am currently reading Cracking India: A Novel which is interesting but I am finding it a bit of a slow read and Odd Thomas which is not the usual type of book I read but ..."
Cracking India was a tough read for me...too slow, I agree.

Petra wrote: "Thanks, Jayme. The hymns are really nicely done on the audio. I might have to buy that, it would be cool to have it sitting next to my book. And I love that they put those in the audio version, since it doesn't look like they recorded them specifically for the audio, just to go along with the written book.
I still have four books going:Until I Find You - Irving
Dreaming in Stereo - Broderick
The Giant's House - McCracken
The Hunger Games - Collins
I'm almost finished Dreaming, Giant & The Hunger Games, so I'll be starting others.
Jeff and I always have one for bedside reading - aloud - there's always one I'm doing on audio - and there's always one I'm doing as a bedside on my own.
I very rarely do two audio books at once but right now I listen to Until I Find You in the daytime and early evening, and late at night I've been listening to The Hunger Games.

We watched the movie - haven't actually read the book.
i started Bitter is the New Black last night. it's ok, not great though. i picked it up because i knew we'd be snowed in this weekend, and with 20+ inches already, i have lots of reading time ahead of me!
Cait wrote: "I have Lancelot here at home! :o) I think I'll be reading it fairly soon."Cait,
Let me know what you think when you read this one. Percy is one of my favorite authors but I don't see many people reading him.

That's really interesting! I'm glad you found this link, Jayme, and posted it.
I am reading The Tenderness of Wolves: A Novel and I like it so far. It was time for a good historical fiction. I'm also picking up Living Like Ed: One Man's Guide to Living an Environmentally Friendly Life and Sightings: Extraordinary Encounters with Ordinary Birds from the library.
Jamaie wrote: "I'm currently reading Going Bovine & I'm 1/2 through it. "I have that on my to-reads pile. How do you like it so far? The cover really made me laugh.
I recently finished The Wives of Henry Oades by Johanna Moran. This is her debut novel and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical fiction and/or those who simply love a well-told story.
Chrystal & Kathy...I am enjoying it quite a bit. I've actually LOL so many times. (:Kathy wrote: "Chrystal wrote: "Jamaie wrote: "I'm currently reading Going Bovine & I'm 1/2 through it. "

I really tried listening to Skeletons at the Feast & got through the first CD & I've decided to quit....it has depressed me in that short time...ugh, I hate feeling that way. I know things have happened in the past that are very hard to take & listen to...but I just can't do it...sorry.
Tracy...What's really great about the cover is it's completely relevant to the story...although you'll have to read 1/2 the book to get to that point...LOL.Tracy wrote: "Jamaie wrote: "I'm currently reading Going Bovine & I'm 1/2 through it. "

This one did not get high marks from me...mostly because it's a story that keeps getting retold by authors & movies. It's such old news at this point. If you saw "The Pregnancy Pact" on Lifetime..that is this book.Jrsygrl1980 wrote: "Christine wrote: "Just started [image error]"

I finished East of the Sun and really liked it - 4 stars.I am now reading A Reliable Wife which I'm finding creepy but compelling.
"Started People of the Book. Seems to very good but also very different than Year of Wonders."They are very different, but both books were enjoyed by me.
Darcia wrote: "I recently finished The Wives of Henry Oades by Johanna Moran. This is her debut novel and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical fiction and/or those..."Thanks, Darcia! I have this on my TBR list. It's good to hear a recommendation for it.

NOT MY DAUGHTER
I think the book was a good read. Yes in some ways it is a told often story. But the parts that make this book stand out to me are the mother daughter relationships, the small town politics, the strength and growth of the characters...I think is is a good read as are all of Barbara delinsky's books, however her newer ones (like this one) really show how honed her craft now is.
Finished A Day in the Life of Ancient Rome: Daily Life, Mysteries, and Curiosities, A Year in the Life of William Shakespeare: 1599, and Wolf Hall recently, and gave all of them 4 stars.Currently reading Life on the Mississippi and The Class of 1846: From West Point to Appomattox: Stonewall Jackson, George McClellan, and Their Brothers. Had forgotten what a treat it is to read Mark Twain.
I am currently reading Hope Was Here by Joan Bauer and Memories of My Melancholy Whores by Gabriel García Márquez. :)

Hi Susanna. How did you like Archangel? I have it on my TBR list for a long time now.
