What are you reading?

I meant to read A Mercy next but somehow wound up re-reading Fanny: Being the True History of the Adventures of Fanny Hackabout-Jones. The writing style is a bit tedious (Jong replicates the style and wording of the early 18th century) but the story is a rollicking good time.

Thanks Brenda, I've heard very good things about it.
Chrystal wrote: "Jamaie, Christine, and Diane U.....I really enjoyed Not My Daughter. I thought it was one of Barbara Delinsky's best novels. It is something that could certainly happen to anyone, and the way some ..."Chrystal, Jamaie, Christine and Diane --- LOVED Not My Daughter!!!! Barbara Delinsky's last three books have been outstanding. To me she has really highlighted the mother-daughter relationship with all its highs and lows
Chrystal, I have enjoyed all of the Jodi Picoult books but truly loved Her Sister's Keeper, 19 Minutes and Handle With Care and a couple others whose names escape me right now..... Jodi Picoult came make you think you have an opinion and when she is done wringing every emotion out of you and all the characters, you realize not everything in life is as it seems.
I am reading The Little Giant of Aberdeen County

I'm almost done with it. I'm interested to see how the author wraps everything up. I want to read Shakespeare & Company but I still can't find it. I hope I didn't leave it in Starbucks.

I haven't gotten my hands on Shades of Grey yet but Jasper Fforde is my favorite author so I cannot wait to read it!!
I just got [book:2nd Chance today from someone I work with .. not very far in it but hoping I'll like it as much as 1st to Die by James Patterson.
I am currently reading Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins, the sequal to The Hunger Games. So far so good. I fill the Author is rushing thru details to get to the point, but still ok.
Started reading Breathing for a Living by Laura Rothenberg last night and I'm already more than halfway through. It's a non-fictional account of a young girl who was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis when she was 3 days old. The books chronicles her experience from age 19 on in the form of her journal entries and various other communications with friends and family. Somewhat clinical in parts, but extremely readable and a heartbreaking account of what it's like to live with a chronic illness.
I just got Book Lust: Recommended Reading for Every Mood, Moment, and Reason in the mail today, and it looks like my to-read list is going to become even more insane than it already was.
i finished Sepulchre by Kate Mosse last night. very enjoyable read.i was hoping to pick up the newer one from Jennifer Weiner at the library tonight, but they didn't have it. i need to hunt it down and read it before my book group on friday!
Felina wrote: "I'm currently reading The Old Man and the Sea, Under the Dome & A Game of Thrones."That is such an awesome combo!
Finished reading The Swan Thieves, gave it 3 stars. I really enjoyed the intriguing ideas woven into the story, but overall the details were redundant which made it too drawn out for my taste. Now I'm reading Alice I Have Been.

I tried to read The Little Giant of Aberdeen County, made it to around page 200 and it just didn't hold my interest. I went ahead and returned it to the library. Maybe you can tell me what happens in the end :)
Hey guys and gals, it's been a littl while since ive updated what Im reading (been so busy lately, but love checking in to see what YOU all have been reading!)
I recently finished "Totally Killer" and love love loved it. It's a 90's retro noir kinda novel about a girl who signs up for the job of her dreams through Quid Pro Quo, a super secret, super posh employment agency that promises to land you the job of your dreams...Though, should you decide to keep it, there is a price to be paid. I strongly recommend this one!
I am now reading "The Colorman".. I am only 54 pages into it, but it is just not doing anything for me at this point. I dont care for the characters and dont feel as though I am a part of the story at all.... Here's to hoping it gets better....

Nope did not. Have read much better books than that . Roots and Somebody Knows My Name was so much better. I could not connect with any of the characters nor could I care about them. The book jumped around a little to much for me. But I am glad you liked it. Share with me what you liked, maybe I will change my mind.

well I read it years ago, so I don't have specific details to share, but I remember really liking the non-linear story telling. It kept my attention. I also found it heartbreaking and I cared about the characters. Well that's not even accuarate. I LOATHED some characters and really cared about others and some I was just intrigued by them and the choices they made. I loved that it was a complex story with no easy answers.
That much is true . It is complex with no real resolution. I am not saying I like pat finishes, I just would rate it a 2 star for me. I like your thinking about a non-linear story telling. I need to have a little more cohesiveness in my stories. I guess I am dense.
just started A Dirty Jobby christopher moore, for my in-person book club, i would never have picked this up on my own, its different but im enjoying it.
Mary wrote: "Kat wrote: "I can't wait to really get into it. I have been reading a good bit of WWII settings lately, and I LOVE them!"
Kat, you might like Ten Cents a Dance by Christine Fletch..."
Mary, thanks! I just finished Ten Cents a Dance this morning, I really enjoyed it!
I'm starting Peace Like A River tonight. Has anyone read this?
I just finished Soulless, which I LOVED. A little paranormal, a little romance, a little sex, a lot of chemistry, and a lot of fun in Victorian London! For a change of pace, I'm switching to World Without End, the follow-up to Pillars of the Earth.
I am currently reading Cracking India: A Novel which is interesting but I am finding it a bit of a slow read and Odd Thomas which is not the usual type of book I read but I am really enjoying it.
I finished The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan and I loved it! I can't wait to read the next book in the series. Now, I'm going to start reading The Crimson Rooms by Katharine McMahon, which is a First Reads book I won.
I have under 100 pages of Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal. I'm really enjoying the story and the dry, sarcastic humour it's told in. I've started listening to The Year of the Flood during my commutes. So far, it's a very intriguing story.
Just finished Dubliners by James Joyce. It was my first foray into Joyce and I was left a little 'meh'. Perhaps that is just becuase I am not really a fan of short stories, but who knows. Will try "Portrait" before "Ulysses" just to check that theory. Am also partially into Dune, but have to take a break to read my RL book club book for our meeting on Monday. So am on to The Dharma Bums by Kerouac. Really just started and am noncommital so far.
I definitely had no desire to read Kerouac, so I guess its good I am forced to now. And its not as off-putting as I was expecting so far, so thats good. But it also isnt gripping me either.
I've just started The Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova. I'm excited, as I've been waiting a long time for her next book after my favorite, The Historian.
Help...please tell me the book does get less confusing...this morning I started to read, Gilead by Marilynne Robinson. I am 25 pages into the book and I am all confused, is the narriator telling his story or trying to have his son learn a lesson? The bouncing from subject to subject is making my head swim.
On the way to the library, they are holding Secrets of Eden by Chris Bohjalian, Peace Like A River will have to wait.
Jeane wrote: "Started People of the Book. Seems to very good but also very different than Year of Wonders."Hi Jeane, Yes, they are very different books but both so good. I hope you enjoy People of the Book.
Donna wrote: "Jeane wrote: "Started People of the Book. Seems to very good but also very different than Year of Wonders."Hi Jeane, Yes, they are very different books but both so go..."
I loved both of them.
I wanted to save it for the trip home but I couldn't help it, decided to start reading Alex Berenson's The Silent Man. Am in need of a spy thriller at the moment =)
The Perfect Poison by Amanda Quick is the next book and I am so looking forward to a cuddle with the cats, a great read and a corner of hte couch......
Read Robert Harris's Archangel, now it's back to Atlas Shrugged. If I could only get myself to pick up the tome. It's not the writing, it's how heavy the damn book is! ;D

That was my favorite of her books. I never saw the movie, though as I figured they probably made too many changes.
