Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments Yep, he wrote a novel called The Hottest State which was then made into a movie of the same name. I haven't read it yet but the soundtrack is really good.

cat stories by james herroit

message 1703: by [deleted user] (new)

Funny, I meant to give him a try. I seem to rememember scathing reviews. The books look pretty short.

message 1704: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) And I have to leave just one more:

At the beep, please leave your name, number and a brief justification of the ontological necessity of modern man's existential dilemma and we'll get back to you. (from the answering machine)

message 1705: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments Charity, where did you come across Zach's new tunes? I know that he was working on a solo album with DJ Shadow for a long time but had heard that it was all shelved. Kinda pissed off Shadow, he wanted people to hear those beats that he'd made.

message 1706: by [deleted user] (new)

Great quotes

message 1707: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) He started a new set with Jon Theodore (drummer from The Mars Volta). They call themselves "One Day As A Lion" (la Rocha always picks catchy names, huh?). They just released an EP on the 22nd.

One Day As A Lion

message 1708: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) I really loved Ethan Hawke in Before Sunrise.

I was underwhelmed by Before Sunset.

message 1709: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) Oh, and I had a signed copy of Ash Wednesday that I sold a few years ago. Kinda sad about it now.

message 1710: by [deleted user] (new)

Haven't seen either but Dead Poet's Society is one of my all time favorites.

message 1711: by Stacie (new)

Stacie "Oh Captain My Captain" brings tears to my eyes every time.

I LOVE that movie! As an English major trying to be an English teacher, my dream is to one day affect my students even a small bit of what was portrayed in that movie.

message 1712: by [deleted user] (new)

That means you have to break all the rules! Seriously, I hope your administrative folks don't have such sticks up their arses as in that movie.

message 1713: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) Have you seen The Emperor's Club? Same vein, based on the short story in The Palace Theif by Ethan Canin.

message 1714: by Macy (new)

Macy | 155 comments Every time I imagine myself in the future as a teacher, I can't help but think of Dead Poet's Society. If I could ever be a teacher with even a fraction of that impact on my students, I would be satisfied.

message 1715: by Lorena (new)

Lorena (lorenalilian) Boof I read The Secret Life of Bees as part of our bookclub it was such good book, it explores the female bond in so many layers ... it was nice and quick too!

message 1716: by [deleted user] (new)

Lorena, are you subtly trying to bring us back on task?

message 1717: by Michael (new)

Lorena (lorenalilian) Jeremy - Sorry I was just reading posts and answering as I was catching up ... 'o)

message 1719: by [deleted user] (new)

Sure. JK. Good luck trying to catch up. You may find a whole chorus in one thread.

message 1720: by [deleted user] (new)

I came back on too late. I missed out on the Jeremy sing-a-long!

message 1721: by [deleted user] (new)

Wow, Jeremy, what songs we have in our honor. Mine is Jessie's Girl....god almighty! and with an "i"..grrrr. People still bring that song up...lol

message 1722: by [deleted user] (new)

I can clearly hear that song in my head, too. How we love to reminisce.

message 1723: by [deleted user] (new)

yeah..it's playing in an endless loop as i write this...

message 1724: by Lorena (new)

Lorena (lorenalilian) I wish I had my own song ... on my case all I get from guys is "Oh, Lorena ... as in LORENA BOBBITT????" ... yeah, just like that! LOL

message 1725: by [deleted user] (new)

ok people... stop hijacking the book threads for your Pearl Jam and Ethan Hawke obsessions ....... Even tho I am a fan of both (early)Pearl Jam and Ethan Hawkes novel Hottest State (tho i havent seen the movie, I am afraid it wont do the book justice)....

We do have threads for movies and music, you know. Order... Order... I demand ORDER!!!!

Hee hee... I leave you all alone for an hour, and madness ensues.

message 1727: by Stacie (new)

Stacie That is not a good connection Lorena! (get it? Connection!)

They aren't famous, but my husband is a musician so I have had a couple songs "written" in my honor. Once upon a time he was in a death metal band and they had a song "Gutter Bitch" - it doesn't sound like a good song, but back then I was honored. We called ourselves the Porn Crowd and a friend even brewed beer of that same name.

Later on in life, I shared a song with a cat - "Princess was a Good Girl" - her name was Princess and my friend Mike calls me Princess - like you call the fat guy "tiny".

message 1728: by Lorena (new)

Lorena (lorenalilian) women never remember that, but guys ... well they just can't let it go ... LOL

Now I wish someone would say oh, as in Lorena, France, which I was actually named after ... but no that would be too much to ask for. ;o)

message 1729: by [deleted user] (new)

Lorena, do you remember Kool & the Gang's version of "Joanna"? We could just insert your name.

message 1730: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) Charity is in a lot of songs (no title songs spring to mind), but my favorite is Sublime's 'What I Got'.

message 1731: by Lorena (new)

Lorena (lorenalilian) I don't know that song ... I hope is nice ... There is actually a regeton song about a Liliann which is my middle name, not the best but not terrible.

message 1732: by [deleted user] (new)

Lorena,
It's a nice little pop song, one of those mushy love songs from the '80s.

message 1733: by Charity (new)

message 1734: by Sherry (new)

Sherry There is a couple of songs with the name Sherry, but one of my faves is by Frankie Vali.

message 1735: by [deleted user] (new)

Lori, I'll refrain from further musical diversions on this thread. If you kicked me out of this group, I don't know what I'd do all day..haha.

message 1736: by [deleted user] (new)

I would say "I don't cry when my dog runs away. I don't get angry at the bills I have to pay." but I don't want to piss Lori off.

We'll have to think of something better than Lorena Bobbet. Especially after reading Palahniuk today.

Gutter Bitch! Now that is nice. Good for the self esteem.

message 1737: by Sherry (new)

Sherry My God Charity, but you are quick on the draw!

message 1738: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Lol Jeremy

message 1739: by [deleted user] (new)

Wow Charity, you are fast!

message 1740: by Lorena (new)

Lorena (lorenalilian) Thanks Charity! You made my day! ;o)
