Susanna (jb_slasher) Going to start Alcott's Little Women tomorrow since it's fast approaching 4 AM. (I should get my sleeping pattern fixed asap.) I hope it's a nice change from the heavy lifting I've been doing since the last two books were 600+ pages. Maybe next year I should start a page count, too.

LemonLinda (lwilliamson0423) I just finished the audio of Sarah's Key - one of my favorite books for the year. I am now reading A Prayer for Owen Meany and enjoying that as well.

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments I finished HER FEARFUL SYMMTRY which was ok, and I finished WISHIN AND HOPIN by Wally Lamb which I really liked. This made me reach my goal of 100 books read in 2009!!!

message 16406: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I am now reading Uglies - Scott Westerfeld. I picked it up after finding his other series I found in my library.

I have heard loads of good things from you all to readin this, so I will try and see what I make of it.

LemonLinda, I really thought Sarah's Key was a great read and learned quite from it. I would like to hear what you think of A Prayer for Owen Meany. A friend of mine has been pushing me to read it, but what with the other four books I am currently reading and about 30 others on my TBR (Under the Dome among them), I don't know when (or if) to get started on it.

Thus far I am enjoying (not quite halfway through)- not making normal progress because of too many holiday related distractions.

Jenni (pinkxpaws) I'm now reading A Walk To Remember by Nicholas Sparks

message 16412: by Blaine (new)

Blaine DeSantis I just finished The Almond Picker by Simonetta Agnello Hornby and really enjoyed it. This morning I started the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Already about 60 pages into it, and love the way the entire book is put together as a series of letters.

I have no rhyme or reason to my book selections, only that I have them in my library at home and enjoy reading so much. I am a 56 year old retired attorney, and I am finally getting a chance to catch up on all that I have purchased over the years.

Bridgit | 475 comments Have just cracked open Wolf Hall the 2009 Man Booker Prize Winner. So far its really great. Its odd hearing Cromwell's side of the story when I have read so many fiction and non-fiction works painting him as the bad guy.

message 16417: by Carol (new)

Carol I think I put Wolf Hall on my to be read list.

message 16418: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm almost finished with Shantaram. Its nearly one thousand pages so the end is finally near. :-) It has been a decent story but its written with a sappy sentimental style that is too much to take seriously. I'm also about half way through Never Let Me Go which I'm finding a refreshing contrast to Shantaram.

Vonney Young (ysgillen67) | 75 comments I am listening to "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" and loving it. Now I'm Googling
Guernsey to see what it looks like there.

"The Poisonwood Bible", "In The Woods", and "Sarah's
Key" are all queued up in my Audible.com account. Don't know which to listen to next. Also, find it interesting about S. King's son, Joe Hill, being the
author of "The Heart-Shaped Box". Now, I'll look for it. Didn't S.King's wife, Tabitha (or something like
that)write a book or two also?

The Poisonwood Bible is something I have never read, but have heard glowing reviews about. Am not familiar with the other two you mentioned.

Yes I read Wolf Hall a while a go and really enjoyed it. The way that Cromwell is referred to throughout in the third person takes some getting used to.

Yeah - I am on page 80 or so and really just figuring out the style. Its odd and i can't figure out why. It's third person narrative but almost seems like it shouldnt be. Like it is really 1st person, but they replaced the I's with He's. But i am getting used to it.

Mary,
I gave up on this one recently. I was really excited to read it and just couldn't get past about pg 100. It was too slow, not enough to keep me going. I don't normally quit a book, but just kept thinking of all the other ones I could start!

message 16438: by Sherrie (new)

Sherrie (syellico) Just finished The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane which I really enjoyed. I just started The Stupidest Angel A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror, Version 2.0 for the group read and am also listening to Dismantled A Novel on my commute.

El Still plugging away at Under the Dome. Doesn't help that I read this one only in bed so as to not lug it around with me everywhere I go.

Just started The Ghost in the Eiffel Tower by Olivier Bleys. I don't have incredibly high hopes for it, but hope to at least be amused. And this is one I can lug around without causing harm to myself or others.

El, I'd like to know your thoughts on this book when you're done. I saw it at Costco this weekend and almost bought it.
I used the same tactic when reading Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell. I read it only at home so as not to lug it around but found that I wasn't getting through the book very quickly so I started lugging it to/from work.

Beth Diiorio (beth_diiorio) | 52 comments Recently finished The Broken Teaglass A Novel, A Corpse in the Koryo, and Sink Reflections. The first two were slightly disappointing. Usually I like to split up series as to not get sick of them, but when I tried to with this one, I just wanted to get back to them. Really great series.
