Have just cracked open Wolf Hall the 2009 Man Booker Prize Winner. So far its really great. Its odd hearing Cromwell's side of the story when I have read so many fiction and non-fiction works painting him as the bad guy.

I'm almost finished with Shantaram. Its nearly one thousand pages so the end is finally near. :-) It has been a decent story but its written with a sappy sentimental style that is too much to take seriously. I'm also about half way through Never Let Me Go which I'm finding a refreshing contrast to Shantaram.
Started Twilight of Splendor The Court of Queen Victoria During Her Diamond Jubilee Year last night. Interesting read.
I am listening to "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" and loving it. Now I'm GooglingGuernsey to see what it looks like there.
"The Poisonwood Bible", "In The Woods", and "Sarah's
Key" are all queued up in my Audible.com account. Don't know which to listen to next. Also, find it interesting about S. King's son, Joe Hill, being the
author of "The Heart-Shaped Box". Now, I'll look for it. Didn't S.King's wife, Tabitha (or something like
that)write a book or two also?

The Poisonwood Bible is something I have never read, but have heard glowing reviews about. Am not familiar with the other two you mentioned.

Tabitha King has written several books , of which I have read none.

The way that Cromwell is referred to throughout in the third person takes some getting used to.

My face-to-face bookclub is discussing The Help tonight. I hope you continue to enjoy it, I loved it.

That was my favorite Sparks book. :)
Some of his others were too romantic for my taste, but I really liked that one a lot.

It's third person narrative but almost seems like it shouldnt be. Like it is really 1st person, but they replaced the I's with He's. But i am getting used to it.
Writerlibrarian wrote: "I've started on The Shadow of the Wind . So far I like it a lot. "That book has to be the best one that I have read in the past year. It is beautifully written!
Finished Books of Blood 1-3 by Clive Barker. I think I'm reading The Rules of Attraction next. Need something non-horror.
The Widow of the South, but it's gotten rather "meh" after a strong start. Though I hate to be a quitter I may have to go to something else.

Loved Sarah's Key! But I have also heard good things about Poisonwood Bible, though I have never read it. Good luck with what you choose.

That's great. I have Nefertiti and I just ordered The Heretic Queen. I am looking forward to reading more by her.

Mary wrote: "The Widow of the South, but it's gotten rather "meh" after a strong start. Though I hate to be a quitter I may have to go to something else."Mary,
I gave up on this one recently. I was really excited to read it and just couldn't get past about pg 100. It was too slow, not enough to keep me going. I don't normally quit a book, but just kept thinking of all the other ones I could start!
Just finished The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane which I really enjoyed. I just started The Stupidest Angel A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror, Version 2.0 for the group read and am also listening to Dismantled A Novel on my commute.
I am starting to read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Schaffer and Annie Barrows.
Still plugging away at Under the Dome. Doesn't help that I read this one only in bed so as to not lug it around with me everywhere I go.Just started The Ghost in the Eiffel Tower by Olivier Bleys. I don't have incredibly high hopes for it, but hope to at least be amused. And this is one I can lug around without causing harm to myself or others.
El wrote: "Still plugging away at Under the Dome. Doesn't help that I read this one only in bed so as to not lug it around with me everywhere I go...."El, I'd like to know your thoughts on this book when you're done. I saw it at Costco this weekend and almost bought it.
I used the same tactic when reading Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell. I read it only at home so as not to lug it around but found that I wasn't getting through the book very quickly so I started lugging it to/from work.
Recently finished The Broken Teaglass A Novel, A Corpse in the Koryo, and Sink Reflections. The first two were slightly disappointing. Sink Reflections, however, spurred me on to get my house cleaned and organized...hopefully, long term :-) Now I'm reading Eli the Good.
Reading the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I am really liking it so far. The characters are great. It's just taking me a long time to get through it. My work and personal life are getting in the way!
I'm currently reading The Sinner by Tess Gerritsen. I have just been cruising through the Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles series. Usually I like to split up series as to not get sick of them, but when I tried to with this one, I just wanted to get back to them. Really great series.
Started Crime & Punishment, why do I punish myself.(sigh)...........It really is, so far not too horrible, but as the pages turn ,who knows.
carol (akittykat) wrote: "Started Crime & Punishment, why do I punish myself.(sigh)...........It really is, so far not too horrible, but as the pages turn ,who knows."Trust me its a powerful story and worth the effort. Promise yourself that you will read something comic and light-hearted afterwards and that will get you through it.
Thanks for the encouragement, can't sleep so I will get back to my page turner...(stumbling back to bed to read the crime)That should put me to sleep(yawn)

I loved The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and like you it took my a while to get through it (but completely worth it). I'm on to the third one in the trilogy - Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest which i'm also really enjoying but again it's taking me a little while to get through it.

I have to say, I feel a little odd reading the posts about Crime and Punishment a few messages above this one. Reading something comic and light-hearted was suggested as follow-up reading. When I read C&P I thought IT was comic and light-hearted. Hmm. I'm currently reading Teacher Man, Frank McCourt's last memoir, which has an occasional parallel with my own memoir, LATE DELIVERY, A MEMOIR. I'm considering reading Canterbury Tales (unabridged) or something about a wind up bird by a Japanese novelist, whose name I wrote down somewhere.
^^^The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami. You're welcome ;0)I quit on The Widow of the South and started The Hour Between, which I bought based on a rec. from NPR, but frankly it's pretty awful. I am quite disappointed and may have to resume TWOTS.
Thanks Mary. TWOTS? The Word On The Street? Potwato twots? I'm dying to know! What does it mean? (Assuming it's singular). That was very sweet of you to give me the author and title. I have it written down around here somewhere. Shouldn't be hard to find. These prison cells are pretty small.

Finished the marvellous
, simply loved the characters. My opinion of this book is, When I started readin this, I thought omg, what kind of book have I got here. I heard loads of rave reviews about this book, so I thought this might help me get back to readin again. WELL, what can I say about this book. It certainly gives you an insight to what we wanted to see of kids at the age of 16 and havin operations to be made like a supermodel. I can't wait til I read more on how Tally changes and her life.8/10 for me on this book and series so far.
Now I am gonna get my teeth into [image error] .

Same here - I'm reading Under the Dome and just lug it to work with me on the bus - otherwise it would take me forever to finish.! I'm enjoying it so far though.

As in "he speaks" rather than "he spoke" which, when it is obviously a historical novel, really throws you off.

I am actually enjoying Zipporah, Wife of Moses. I don't follow religiona and I know nothing of it but I am actually liking it. I only started to read it becuase it was a Z book for my ABC title Challenge!
I just finished a book that I won on the GR Giveaway: The Happiness Project Or, Why I Spent a Year Trying to Sing in the Morning, Clean My Closets, Fight Right, Read Aristotle, and Generally Have More Fun. I personally loved it and found it extremely inspiring and I'm now starting my own happiness project!Next on the list--Love in the Time of Cholera!
