What are you reading?
I am currently reading Friday Night Knitting Club. It was not highly recommended to me, but I was desperate and can't get to the library. Does anyone have any input? It is starting slow, so does it pick up?
I finished At Swim, Two Boys A Novel and have decided it's my very favorite book of this year. It's just exquisitely written. Although it takes a little effort to get into the flow of the writing, but well worth the effort. I've now started The Cruelest Month by Louise Penny.
Susanna wrote: "I enjoyed Friday Night Knitting Club, but know several people who weren't so fond of it."It is shaping up to be a sad read I think, so I will put it aside for now. I want something light hearted.
As a few of us will be reading Wuthering Heights in Jan.
I had planned to wait till I finished some of what I'm reading to start it but my copy of Under The Dome has been calling for me to pick up for three days so I started it and am enjoying it.
I did enjoy The Friday Night Knitting Club. Although I do recognize it was sad, I felt it has some really positive features and the love of friends is a specialness that is not found all the time. I have finish The Precious Stone and have moved on to a First Read book, The Bottchelli Secret by Marina Fiorato.

I would really like to know what you think of this one when you finish. It's on my TBR pile.

LOL Michelle! I know you did!! There were so many names and all the action was so much like the Keystone Cops! I can't believe their justice system there. A couple of days ago I saw that they were going to sentence Amanda Knox and I saw that she was in the same place the book takes part, Perugia. Then I read the part in "Monster of Florence" about her and that the same goofy judge was doing her case. Now I have to wonder about her case!

That is next on my list to read. My mom's book group read it and she enjoyed it/

I finished The Sound and the Fury tonight, which I technically don't need to have done until Tuesday. Woohoo! Tomorrow (or some time during this crazy hectic week) I hope to finish Lady Audley's Secret.
I finished P.S. Longer Letter Later. It was a delightful read. I am now reading The Stupidest Angel: A heartwarming story of Christmas terror!

Hi Lauren. I have the White Oleander on my "to-read" shelf and I'm eager to read your opinion.

White Oleander is such a great read. I want to read it again at some point, and I almost never do that.

Jeane, it's the trial of Amanda Knox who is accused of killing her English room mate in Italy with her Italian boyfriend. I don't know all the details of the case other than those and if these kids were bad, stupid or both but the case was being heard by the same judge who was charging anyone he chose as the murderer in "The Monster of Florence". Amanda got 26 years in prison and her boyfriend got 25. I need to look up all the evidence and see if it's more of the same as the above book.

It is the basis for many, many science fiction stories written since then. Asimov came up with the Law of Robotics, and many (most?) stories that involve robots assume the Law of Robotics.
I've also read his mystery series and enjoyed them. As Jeane said, they're kind of weird, but in a different, good kind of way.

Christine, I highly recommend it!! It was a really great story. I picked it up at BAM last week on the clearance rack.... had seen it mentioned on GR a few times....read the jacket cover and thought why not...... that was all I knew about it.....
I finished it in less than 8 hours..... and when I went to write a review did I find out that Joe Hill is actually Stephen King's son writing under a different name. I am not a King fan.... so I'm glad I didn't know that before... I wouldn't have given it a chance.
It was a fast paced page turner for sure!!

I got a little bored with Friday Night Knitting Club.
Even though I've heard negative things about Friday Night Knitting Club, I like the cover with all of the colorful yarn so it still calls to me.
After Darkmans and the history book I am going to read some books for and against man made global warming. Was going to read Chalmers Johnson's trilogy but decided to put them on the back burner.

Last week I finished Flatland A Romance of Many Dimensions (3*) and The Stupidest Angel A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror, Version 2.0 (4*). Flatland packs a lot of issues into a small book. It's the tale of a being who lives in 2 Dimensions and his experiences in 0, 1 & 3 Dimensions. Beyond that, it tells of a very brutal and rigid society; one of social classes, customs and expectations. I found it a bit hard to get into because of, all, the, commas. Very Victorian. My copy was the one with squares on the cover and it included an introduction telling about the author and his times, as well as a glossary of terms which was really helpful. The book was originally published anonymously by "A. Square". LOL!
The Stupidest Angel was a fun, wacky, zany story that was really refreshing and amusing to listen to (audio).
I`m currently reading The Manticore, which is the second book in The Deptford Trilogy. I`m really enjoying these books set in first a small Canadian town and then Toronto.
And, finally, I`m listening to The White Tiger during my commutes to/from work and am really enjoying it so far.
I just finished The Stranger-Albert Camus you can read my review here.http://www.goodreads.com/review/edit/...
I am reading Tricks by Ellen Hopkins and Living Dead in Dallas (Sookie Stackhouse series) by Charlaine Harris. I am also reading The Best Christmas Pageant Ever to my daughter (1 chapter a night).

Going to start Alcott's Little Women tomorrow since it's fast approaching 4 AM. (I should get my sleeping pattern fixed asap.) I hope it's a nice change from the heavy lifting I've been doing since the last two books were 600+ pages. Maybe next year I should start a page count, too.

Yes that one worked!
I just finished the audio of Sarah's Key - one of my favorite books for the year. I am now reading A Prayer for Owen Meany and enjoying that as well.
I finished HER FEARFUL SYMMTRY which was ok, and I finished WISHIN AND HOPIN by Wally Lamb which I really liked. This made me reach my goal of 100 books read in 2009!!!
I am now reading Uglies - Scott Westerfeld. I picked it up after finding his other series I found in my library.I have heard loads of good things from you all to readin this, so I will try and see what I make of it.
I will be done reading Rant by the end of the work day. I thus will start Zipporah Wife of Moses on my ride home.

I would like to hear what you think of A Prayer for Owen Meany. A friend of mine has been pushing me to read it, but what with the other four books I am currently reading and about 30 others on my TBR (Under the Dome among them), I don't know when (or if) to get started on it.
I just finished Vampire Diaries -The Fury....I been reading a lot of vampire books I think I need a change. I am now reading Visions of Sugar Plums by Janet Evanovich. Should be a quick read. :~)

Thus far I am enjoying (not quite halfway through)- not making normal progress because of too many holiday related distractions.
I just finished The Almond Picker by Simonetta Agnello Hornby and really enjoyed it. This morning I started the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Already about 60 pages into it, and love the way the entire book is put together as a series of letters. I have no rhyme or reason to my book selections, only that I have them in my library at home and enjoy reading so much. I am a 56 year old retired attorney, and I am finally getting a chance to catch up on all that I have purchased over the years.

I read it back in September and really enjoyed it. Easily one of the good books I've read this year.
