I am curious to know more about the The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Can you give me a little teaser as to what the story is about? Don't spoil anything for me, just try to let me know what the book is generally about. I would really appreciate it. :)

message 16212: by Maureen (new)

Maureen Reading Bill Bryson's Notes from a Small Island. I needed something a little lighter after all of the drama in Breaking Dawn (Meyer). ;-)

Beth Diiorio (beth_diiorio) | 52 comments Recently finished reading Nicholas and Alexandra and The Tricking of Freya. Both were 4 star books for different reasons. I have to say, Christina Sunley's writing style and subject matter were refreshingly unique. Now I'm reading A Corpse in the Koryo.

message 16215: by El (new)

El Was finally able to get Heart of Darkness off my list. Luckily it was a quick read.

Now reading The Magnificent Ambersons.

Petra I just started The Seven Daughters of Eve The Science That Reveals Our Genetic Ancestry. The second chapter was a bit tedious but it's gotten more interesting since then.

It was very interesting and the style of writing was just right, intelligent and yet geared to a reader who didn't have a scientific background.

message 16225: by Celeste (new)

Celeste (celestelueck) | 107 comments Rereading Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. I read it years ago when it first came out, but since I now have a child going to school there and I know the city the book is even more enjoyable. Just a great read, and to think it all happened.

I'm also listening to The Name of the Wind and loving it.

And yes, I am still reading, as an ebook, Twenties Girl. I don't think ebook is my best reading format. When I get on the computer it is usually to see what you guys are doing or check with my friends on Facebook. Oh well, I'm sure to finish it someday.

message 16226: by Susanna (new)

Susanna (jb_slasher) Finally, starting The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger tomorrow. (Now off to bed since it's 2 AM!)

JG (Introverted Reader) I had to take a break from Shogun, so I just finished Poison Study. I loved it! Now I'm not sure whether to get started again on Shogun or maybe squeeze one more "breather" book in.

I haven't read any of Christopher Moore's books ---- plus Under the Dome may be a bit heavy to lug on the bus every day to work!

I was thinking since I didn't like "The Time Traveller's Wife" and most people haven't liked "Her Fearful Symmetry" that there is a chance that I might like it! LOL

message 16242: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (schaubchick) | 138 comments I've just started reading "The Alienist" by Caleb Carr. Haven't gotten far enough into it to say whether or not I like it. I had to read this book because its sequel, "The Angel of Darkness", has been sitting on my bookshelf for years. I absolutely cannot read books out of order (i.e., #2 before #1) in a series. Drives me nuts!

For the "Her Fearful Symmetry" wonderers...
I think it is far superior to Time Travelers Wife, if only becuase of the many layers to each character....

The developement is incredibly different. I recommend everyone give it a shot (whether in HC or PB)
