Hi,
Paul Rix here, for those who like something a little bit different, might I suggest 'the reincarnation of Issac Brock' by A.B. Robinson, this probably my favourite book of all time, and I have no idea why, as I hate historical novels with a passion, and this sort of falls into that genre.
A lot of my friends, including my dear wife absolutely loved 'the apothecary' by Dereck Hucklesby, Babs, my wife, has read it twice, personally I just couldn't get into it, I do conceed it is very well written though. It simply isn't my kind of book, but then I couldn't get more than a few pages into Harry Potter and couldn't understand all the fuss made about the De Vinchi code so what so I know!

last word but one in the above should be DO not so!!!! finger trouble or what!now you see where the 'oldgeezer' came from!!

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments I'm currently reading The Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen. I decided to pick it up after I found out that TNT is filming a pilot for it. I'm about 100 pages in and loving it. I also have to read Brave New World for my Ethics class so I'll also be reading that today.

Maria (minks05) | 481 comments i finished Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen and The Secret History of the Pink Carnation by Lauren Willig this week.

i loved Sugar Queen, it was a bit more realistic than Garden Spells, but both were spectacular stories.

i liked Willig's story, it was odd though. it was historically based, but had lots of modern chic-litish elements to it. i'll probably read the others in the series though, it was a fun read.

Jenna, I feel that Handle with Care is very similar to Her Sister's Keeper also, however at no time did I have an actual visceral reaction like I did with Handle with Care. While I expect her books to irritate and cogitate in my brain, I never have disliked a character so much. I expect her to show me all sides of an issue and to make me think of things from other view points. I expect that her books are going to be about children and families in some ways and about relationships. But this one had me reacting to a character in a very negative fashion - almost from the beginning.
The other part of this book was the ending - was it purposeful or accidental - I can't decide....

Kimberlee | 3 comments Just started Madame Bovary. I have never read it before and am excited to see what happens and why it has been such a popular novel over the years!

JG (Introverted Reader) Maria wrote: "i liked Willig's story, it was odd though. it was historically based, but had lots of modern chic-litish elements to it."

I like the rest of the series better than the first. They don't veer quite so close to bodice-ripper territory!

I love Sara Addison Allen's books too. Do you know she has a new one coming out? It looks like it's due out in March. The Girl Who Chased the Moon

Shona (anovelobsession) Just finished Something Missing A Novel. Really great story--I gave it 4 stars. Now on to The Thirteenth Tale. It's been on my TBR pile for ages and I've heard great reviews, but for some reason I'm not excited to pick it up...we'll see.

message 16082: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm reading two (almost) connected books: Long Walk to Freedom: The Autobiography of Nelson Mandela, and The Smell of Apples: A Novel (A memoir, but really a novel, of an Afrikaner boy growing up during the 70s and 80s). Both are fascinating, and I realize just how much I don't know about Africa. I've got Google going full blast while I'm reading!

message 16093: by Leanna (new)

Leanna (leannerd) | 73 comments I just finishedA Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray and thought it was pretty fantastic.

My boyfriend had some friends over this weekend and one brought his girlfriend who is also a huge reader, so I stole the graphic novel, Rapunzel's Revenge, that she finished and blazed through it last night. It was fabulous. I adored Rapunzel throughout the whole book.

I just started Salem's Lot last night. It will probably take me a little longer than the others have, just because it's a bit longer and a bit more dense and also I have about fifty projects coming up that I need to work on. It's good so far, though and I'm excited to get into it.
