What are you reading?

My copy of Stephen King's Under the Dome A Novel finally came in to the library yesterday..."
Hi,
Paul Rix here, for those who like something a little bit different, might I suggest 'the reincarnation of Issac Brock' by A.B. Robinson, this probably my favourite book of all time, and I have no idea why, as I hate historical novels with a passion, and this sort of falls into that genre.
A lot of my friends, including my dear wife absolutely loved 'the apothecary' by Dereck Hucklesby, Babs, my wife, has read it twice, personally I just couldn't get into it, I do conceed it is very well written though. It simply isn't my kind of book, but then I couldn't get more than a few pages into Harry Potter and couldn't understand all the fuss made about the De Vinchi code so what so I know!

last word but one in the above should be DO not so!!!! finger trouble or what!now you see where the 'oldgeezer' came from!!

i loved Sugar Queen, it was a bit more realistic than Garden Spells, but both were spectacular stories.
i liked Willig's story, it was odd though. it was historically based, but had lots of modern chic-litish elements to it. i'll probably read the others in the series though, it was a fun read.

Jenna, I feel that Handle with Care is very similar to Her Sister's Keeper also, however at no time did I have an actual visceral reaction like I did with Handle with Care. While I expect her books to irritate and cogitate in my brain, I never have disliked a character so much. I expect her to show me all sides of an issue and to make me think of things from other view points. I expect that her books are going to be about children and families in some ways and about relationships. But this one had me reacting to a character in a very negative fashion - almost from the beginning.
The other part of this book was the ending - was it purposeful or accidental - I can't decide....

I like the rest of the series better than the first. They don't veer quite so close to bodice-ripper territory!
I love Sara Addison Allen's books too. Do you know she has a new one coming out? It looks like it's due out in March. The Girl Who Chased the Moon

Now going to read Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card."
I would love to try this one out. It sounds it is more like the around the world in eight days than the 20000 league under the sea one!

I read the bridges of madison county when I was about 13 (long time ago)but absolutely loved it!

Allison I finsihed The alchemist too. What did you thinkabout the 'advices'? Sometimes they felt a bit too much pushed for me but lukily not too much. I liked the story of the sheep herder as a on its own story.

How is this one? Is it told in an interesting way?

Marti...I felt the same way about the end. I ended up really hating one of the characters too...possibly the same one!

Now i have decided to jump on the book of the month and see how that goes. Now im reading Olive Kitteridge. Im about 15 pages in right now, and i hope to get it done so i can get in on nexts months book.

I agree, but I kept reading the series because so many people raved about them.. they do get better. The 4rth one was my favorite and now I am into the 6th and it is really good as well. The first cvouple are just eh.
--------
I'm still reading Dragonfly in Amber and I'm just starting Twenties Girl A Novel.

Twenties Girl: I really enjoyed this and read it in one day. Quick, easy, fun read.

Julie, hope you will enjoy it. I don't like romantic stories at all but for some unknown reason I adore this book!!!!

Yayayay Pride and prejudice!!!! Another one. Liz, the holidays must be great for you with the tme to read!!!

I'm reading two (almost) connected books: Long Walk to Freedom: The Autobiography of Nelson Mandela, and The Smell of Apples: A Novel (A memoir, but really a novel, of an Afrikaner boy growing up during the 70s and 80s). Both are fascinating, and I realize just how much I don't know about Africa. I've got Google going full blast while I'm reading!

After reading The Kitchen Boy A Novel of the Last Tsar, I was looking for something more in depth about the Romanovs. A GoodReads friend recommended Nicholas and Alexandra, which I am currently reading.

Yayayay Pride and prejudice!!!! Another one. Li..."
They are, although I still have homework. I'm re-reading P&P for a paper.

I can't believe how many 1-star reviews there were, but I'm glad I read it :) Besides it only took away about 2 hours of my life!

My boyfriend had some friends over this weekend and one brought his girlfriend who is also a huge reader, so I stole the graphic novel, Rapunzel's Revenge, that she finished and blazed through it last night. It was fabulous. I adored Rapunzel throughout the whole book.
I just started Salem's Lot last night. It will probably take me a little longer than the others have, just because it's a bit longer and a bit more dense and also I have about fifty projects coming up that I need to work on. It's good so far, though and I'm excited to get into it.

The Hound of the Baskervilles is one of my favorite books. I hope you enjoy it.

I read the book twice. Once when it first came out and again this year. It was a very good book.
