Petra I'm in a bit of a slump...I can't find a book that catches my interest right now so I'm taking a few days of a break to see if that helps......meanwhile, I'm leafing through books on my shelf to see if something grabs me.

Marti (marjay) | 985 comments I don't know what to read next The Sound of Sleigh Bells a first read or one of the Margaret Maron books called Hard Row, which brings me closer to the end of the set. SIGH

JG (Introverted Reader) Ugh. Fall On Your Knees. I pretty much loathed that book. I felt bad about it because that was one of the first books my husband ever bought me as a gift. I've since decided that Oprah and I do not see eye to eye when it comes to books.

LOL! Oprah and I don't see eye to eye about books either. The only ones on her list that I like I had read before they made her list. When I try the others, I'm disappointed.

message 15957: by Susanna (new)

Susanna (jb_slasher) Maybe I'm tired or something but I just finished Fall On Your Knees and I liked the ending which for me brought this book from two stars to three. I think I've read too many books that deal heavily with religion in a short while. Though this one was really more about how I loved the beginning, then the story sort of stopped for a few hundred pages because I thought there was more to all this and then everything came together in the last hundred pages. I would've given this one five stars if I'd only read the beginning and the end.

Oh well, onwards. Next I'm picking up The Heretic's Daughter by Kathleen Kent. But since it's 3 AM, I won't be doing that until tomorrow.

I always ignore the Oprah stickers that are placed on books (although it's annoying when the label is on the cover and not a sticker). I can't say that I particularly care what she thinks--I'm way more likely to take a recommendation from a friend!

How is the Ani Difranco book? I enjoy her music.

Vicki, it was good. Check out my review on it if you like. Her paintings are interesting (they are all untitled), and she has some strong political and social views interwined with lovey dovey mushy stuff... just like her musical lyrcis. Which, by the way, are also in the collection. Some of the song lyrics are written out in the book as well.... "As Is", "32 Flavors"....

Thanks! I didn't even know she had a book. I have to check it out.

Cathy | 31 comments I just finished Swimsuit by James Patterson. I liked the story, but it was a very unsatisfying ending. It seemed to me that he hurried to end it so he could meet his deadline!

I have just started reading Leap Into Darkness by Leo Bretholz. It is a true story about a 17 year old Jewish boy who flees Austria after Germany invades it. It tells about how he survived seven years living on the run in Europe. So far it is really good.

Kimberlee | 3 comments Currently, I'm reading John Dies at the End by David Wong. This book is actually laugh out loud funny which doesn't happen often. One just has to make it through the semi-scary plot but it has so far made for a very enjoyable read.

Just finished In a Perfect World. A very interesting book, especially now, when H1N1 seems to be a concern worldwide. Read this book and tell me what you think of the end!

Leanna (leannerd) | 73 comments I'm currently reading A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray. It's very good so far, I'm definitely intrigued and looking forward to finishing.

This weekend I read The Regulators by Richard Bachman (Stephen King) and Feed by MT Anderson, both extremely good and highly recommendable. I especially love the character Violet from Feed. She's fantastic.

message 15970: by Trish (new)

Trish | 22 comments I finished Dead to the World and it was my favorite of the series so far. I usually like to take a break in between books in the same series, but I had to go ahead and start Dead as a Doornail. Then I will read The Book Thief

Haha! Oh Jayme! Thanks for the extra confidence boost in posting my opinion here! LOL.

Well, you are in luck! I did enjoy this science fiction book very much! I was actually surprised at how much I liked it. I did prefer the first half of the book a lot more than the second half.

Now I don't know what to read. I'm afraid to pick up anymore books this week because I have a huge senior thesis to write that's due Monday, and two tests next week. Yeah...this weekend will suck, but after next week I will have all the time in the world to read as much as I want!

Someone PLEASE hit the fast forward button now! :)

Me three!!! I had to read New Moon one more time before it released! That was the first book that I'd read in the series. I'd watched the Twilight movie before that. So I favour New Moon over Twilight, the novel.

message 15973: by Jayme (new)

Jayme (jayme-reads) Yay! I'm so glad you liked it, Michelle. I didn't hear you say the words "best ever", but I'll let it slide...

The sequel is really weird, I kinda liked it, but wouldn't really recommend it...so bizarre and not at all like Ender's Game.

Wow Maicie! How was "Under the Dome"?

message 15978: by Maicie (new)

Maicie Under the Dome was typical King fare - which I like. The end fizzled so I only gave it 3 stars. Still it was a fun read.

message 15979: by Lindz (new)

Lindz (miss_bovary00) just curious, is there a stephen king novel which doesn't fizzle or just go weird at the end? I like his books, but the man can't seem to end a novel!

I have just finished A Day and a Night and a Day A Novel - Glen Duncan knocks one out of the park again, managing to squeeze religion or lack thereof into yet another novel! This one centers around a man who is being tortured for information. Very tastefully and sentimentally done.

Moving on to The Secret History next, methinks!

Sherrie (syellico) I just started The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane on audio and am blazing through The Bridges of Madison County. It's a short book, but awwww, it is so good so far. I'm also partially into The Widow of the South and hope to finish it by the 30th so I can use it for the Fall Challenge. It will be my last book for this month I think.

This book has humor and humbleness.

[ JT ] | 22 comments Regarding Ender's Game and the sequels: I absolutely adored Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide, and Children of the Mind. Ender's Game was enjoyable, but I found the following 3 to be very thought-provoking reads.

I have noticed, however, that most people do NOT share my opinion. ;) So, if you really enjoyed Ender's Game, I recommend trying Ender in Exile (which is the newest, but also the direct sequel to Ender's Game) and the Ender's Shadow books. These ones have a more "Ender's Game"-feel to them.

Just my $0.02. :)
