Even the weakest Donna Leon is better than most mystery novels in my book. I'm done with rereading the old ones up to Doctored Evidence. I ..."

I think the last time I read a Leon book it was the one you are reading now. Very good story!!! I like reading her stories and read about places in Venice or Italy where I ahve been too, because it is almost like I am walking there with the characters.

Mary (madamefifi) | 358 comments Gave up on Hollister House Legend of the Banyan Tree because my copy of Under the Dome A Novel arrived and I just couldn't resist. LOVING it so far but it's a humongous book so it's hard to read in bed.

Daniela, do you have a link to the book about Leonardo's notebooks?

Trish | 22 comments I am reading Dead to the World.

Kate,
you now have me very excited to read Fire!

message 15907: by Jayme (new)

Jayme (jayme-reads) Finished A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. LeGuin. Now onto Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris. I'm thinking it's a mistake to start an unfinished series again...what if she never finishes them? I hate it when that happens!

message 15908: by Lindz (new)

Lindz (miss_bovary00) Yeah Look at Robert Jordan.

I have just started Women in White. Has a crazy little Italian man. So far so good.

message 15909: by Esther (last edited Nov 15, 2009 11:55AM) (new)

Esther (eshchory) | 575 comments I reading Penelope Lively's Consequences.

I loved Penelope Lively so much when I was child but this book is so dry.
Half of me hopes something happens soon but the other half is sure there is going to be some tragedy so I'm kind of dreading it.

message 15910: by [deleted user] (new)

I am reading two at once...crazy me. I'm at about the halfway point in A Suitable Boy, and I am reading Half Broke Horses (that's on my Kindle).

Tammie, I love horror. Just finished Shutter Island and loved it. There is a group called Horror Aficianados that has a list going of favorite horror books. Anyone can join. You might get some ideas there.

Also reading Under the Dome A Novel and enjoying it too.

message 15913: by Linda (new)

Linda | 887 comments Finished Breakfast with Buddha by Ronald Merullo and surprise, surprise, I really liked it. It's one of those novels that sneaks up on your and makes you really think what it was that grabbed you and held on. Isn't that what a good book is supposed to do, though?

Started Stones from the River by Ursula Heigi and "we'll see".

Esther (eshchory) | 575 comments Susan wrote: "...Actually, I havent started it yet. I was on a road trip all day and cant read in the car-I get sick!"

This is one of my greatest regrets. I am so jealous of people who read and knit in the car.
My car sickness is so chronic that even breathing can be an effort. So much wasted time!

message 15916: by Susan (new)

Susan I know Esther. I think og how many hours I am in the car as a passenger and see people driving by me with their nose buried in a book and I get so frustrated....okay JEALOUS!! Hahahaha

Heather Thomas (5peasinapod) | 47 comments I just picked up Angels & Demons

I only glanced at the first few pages. It looks amazing. I probably shouldn't have picked it up yet. I have 2 exams, 2 5-page papers, and 2 reflection papers. I stayed up past midnight reading The House of the ScorpionI was dead tired, but it was worth every minute.

Have you seen the movie? My boyfriend saw and liked it a lot. I haven'tseen it yet but wouldn't mind now. First it looked too creepy:-)

message 15929: by KarenLee (new)

KarenLee I just finished The Code of the Woosters last night and have started The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao.

I thoroughly enjoyed rereading Code of the Woosters. Wodehouse has me laughing outloud!

message 15930: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1098 comments I am still reading "Backstage Murder" Shelley Fredont. I'm enjoying it but have been working a lot and real life stuff going on so it's put my reading behind. : )

message 15931: by Lindz (new)

Lindz (miss_bovary00) I love Wodehouse. I first read a collection of his best work (as voted by the Wodehouse association of course) I read it on the tram, I was giggling so much people must thought I was lunatic.

I have just started woman in white by Collins. Loving it, very quirky even after 140 odd years. Though he does spend half a page on a description of a new character's appearance which is getting a little annoying.

I'm in love with that man :P

message 15935: by Carol (new)

Carol The Original Of Laura-by Vladimir Nabokov

This is not written in conventional way. It is his notecards for a book that was not written.

I've seen the movie...it is a bit grim at times for young kids. My older daughter and I enjoyed it though.

message 15938: by Lekeshua (new)

Lekeshua | 40 comments I am reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt. I am currently in the character building stage and I thought after reading the never ending The Woman in White would prevent me from enjoying this book but I am enjoying this quick read.

JG (Introverted Reader) I'm getting started on Shogun. Wish me luck--this whopper is going to take a while!

I can read a little in the car, but I have started to make sure I get an audio book or two before heading out on a trip, so I can listen to a book and not feel like I am wasting time.

message 15943: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Klaassen (librarymom23) I finished reading,"The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting" and I am going to start "Perfection by Julie Metz."

message 15944: by Arun (new)

Arun Divakar (arundivakar) Has anyone here read Guillermo Del Toro & Chuck Hogan's The Strain ?? I am almost 90 pages into it and it reads cliche...the opening scene at the airport is a done-to-death feature from authors like Nelson Demille & Michael Crichton...

I listened to unabridged version a year or so ago, and now I always recommend it to everyone and list it as one of my favorite books of all time. Narrated by
two women with British accents which really made the
book enjoyable. A real page-turner!

Vonney Young (ysgillen67) | 75 comments I'm presently listening to The Dogs of Babel by Carolyn Parkhurst. Have to have it read by Friday morning as I'm chairing our bookclub this month.

Just finished Serena by Ron Rash, an NC professor at
Western Carolina University, Cullowhee, NC. Good read.

message 15947: by [deleted user] (new)

Just finished Soulmates by Miranda Glover which i enjoyed and found kind of interesting though it did take a lot longer to read than i expected to.

Now i'm going to start Blood Sucking Fiends by Christopher Moore which i know i will enjoy and can't wait to get into it.

Fiona - Happy for you that you finally got to start the The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest i know that you had been waiting for it for a while. Unfortunately its still on my shelf to be read, could be next, who knows.

I just bought THE BLOOD OF FLOWERS off the B&N sale
table. The dust jacket sounded good. Glad to hear someone enjoyed it. Will be way down on my TBR list for awhile.
Thanks for the info.
