message 15802: by Cait (new)

Cait (caitertot) | 604 comments I just finished Last Night in Twisted River A Novel by John Irving, who continues to amaze me. I gave this book 5 stars and off it went onto my favorites list. And is it wrong that I think Irving is... um, sexy??? I've decided that 2010 will be my "Year of Irving and Dickens".

Right now I'm reading The End of the Affair by Graham Greene, and will start The Cider House Rules by Irving tonight.

Viki | 42 comments I am about halfway through Suite Francaise and am somewhat disappointed....it has gotten such good reviews on GR.....I wanted it to be a "could not put it down" book but instead I did put it down long enough to read Heart Shaped Box (very enjoyable).

I love Irving too, Cait. I love how involved I get in his stories. And a big HOORAY for The End of the Affair!

Lashaun (mariposaredefined) | 1 comments I am almost finished with Unwind by Neal Shusterman! This book is amazing...slightly creepy, and sick. I'm wowed. My friends who read it before me gave me a spoiler and I should have never let them do it! Now I'm hanging off the edge waiting for what they mentioned to happen! The suspense is killing me....

More in "store"!! HA, good one, did you plan that one or was it awesome all on its own?

And, Janny, that book club sounds so great. And potluck dinner too! I wonder how someone goes about starting something like that...something to think about.

message 15825: by Jayme (new)

Jayme (jayme-reads) Finished Persepolis and only one more chapter to go in Under the Volcano. It is soooooooooooooo boring. I wouldn't have finished it if it wasn't for the challenge. Now I don't know what to read...time to head to the library.

message 15828: by Marti (new)

Marti (marjay) | 985 comments Jayme, For a local book club or group first check to see if the local library is running one or the most local bookstore. Out here, our independent book store gives us space and the bookstore allowed the person(s) who were interested to put an ad for two months in the local mailer, they also put up posters and messages all over the place. The book store offers 20% off for buying the book there. We meet over wine, cheese and crackers on Sunday afternoons at 3 and take turns being the host. Hope this is helpful.

I am reading Rituals of the Season by Margaret Moran.

This is the fourth Oates book I've read, and I've loved all of them. The Piers one is not grabbing me quite so much, but it's all right.

I've always been more partial to the Vampire Chronicles. Queen of The Damned is my favorite, the movie is bad though.

message 15842: by Jason (new)

Jason Cook (rytr_1) | 211 comments I've never read it, don't know a thing about it, but a book called The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse must be worth a read. Very cool title.

message 15843: by Maicie (new)

Maicie Finished The Boy Next Door A Novel by Sabatini. 5 stars! Finished Shutter Island by Lehane. Also a great read.

Started Under the Dome A Novel. I was saving it for a cruise we are going on next week but didn't realize the book was so HUGE - a whopping 3.5 pounds. The way the airlines are charging for extra weight, I decided to read the book now so I would have room for a souvenir or two.

Shona, I've requested both of these books from the library, so thank you! Not only do they both seem interesting they will both help me reach my goal in the AtWi 80 books challenge. Also, I haven't read anything by Chris Bohjalian in a while and I'm looking forward to a new read from this author.

I am currently reading The Code of the Woosters.

message 15849: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) | 358 comments Well, apparently I would rather watch Speeders than keep reading Hollister House Legend of the Banyan Tree. since that's what I'm doing right now! I'm about halfway through and don't know if I'm gonna finish. It's awkwardly written, sort of juvenile, and just not very interesting. I hate giving up but I've got so many other books in my TBR pile that I'd rather be reading....

message 15850: by Shayla (new)

Shayla (fallingraindrop) | 6 comments I'm currently almost finished with Gone with the Wind. I'm torn between reading The Story of Edgar Sawtelle or Songs of the Humpback Whale when I'm done with it.
