More in "store"!! HA, good one, did you plan that one or was it awesome all on its own?

And, Janny, that book club sounds so great. And potluck dinner too! I wonder how someone goes about starting something like that...something to think about.

message 15810: by Jayme (new)

Jayme (jayme-reads) Finished Persepolis and only one more chapter to go in Under the Volcano. It is soooooooooooooo boring. I wouldn't have finished it if it wasn't for the challenge. Now I don't know what to read...time to head to the library.

message 15811: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (sbez05) | 556 comments Just started Interview with the Vampire last night for this month's F2F book club pick. It was supposed to be a Halloween read, but we're a bit behind in our meetings.

message 15813: by Marti (new)

Marti (marjay) | 985 comments Jayme, For a local book club or group first check to see if the local library is running one or the most local bookstore. Out here, our independent book store gives us space and the bookstore allowed the person(s) who were interested to put an ad for two months in the local mailer, they also put up posters and messages all over the place. The book store offers 20% off for buying the book there. We meet over wine, cheese and crackers on Sunday afternoons at 3 and take turns being the host. Hope this is helpful.

I am reading Rituals of the Season by Margaret Moran.

message 15814: by Jason (new)

Jason Cook (rytr_1) | 211 comments Currently reading:
A Garden of Earthly Delights -- Joyce Carol Oates
Split Infinity -- Piers Anthony

This is the fourth Oates book I've read, and I've loved all of them. The Piers one is not grabbing me quite so much, but it's all right.

message 15815: by Dorie (new)

Dorie (dorieann) | 430 comments I just finished a rather dark and harrowing book, so I'm chosing to start The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse by Robert Rankin, because it looks to be a fun read. I really need something light.

message 15820: by Ria (new)

Ria De | 1 comments I'm in the middle of Queen of the Damned by Anne Rice. It's fantastic - her other two vampire novels I've read so far (I only just got into her stuff) are INCREDIBLY better than Twilight. Why are people so obsessed with it? Bleeegh. :P

I've always been more partial to the Vampire Chronicles. Queen of The Damned is my favorite, the movie is bad though.

message 15822: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 220 comments I just finished Parable Of The Sower by Octavia E. Butler! I am going to start A TALE OF TWO CITIES by Charles Dickens! The copy I have is an antique though so I am also starting THE MARTIAN CHRONICLES by Ray Bradbury so that I have a book to take to work with me!

message 15823: by Tracy (new)

Dorie, I think you will like this. It took me a bit to get into, but once I did, it was quite humorous!

message 15826: by Dorie (new)

Dorie (dorieann) | 430 comments Lori, I started it last night and am enjoying it. I think it's just what I need right now.

message 15827: by Jason (new)

Jason Cook (rytr_1) | 211 comments I've never read it, don't know a thing about it, but a book called The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse must be worth a read. Very cool title.

message 15828: by Maicie (new)

Maicie Finished The Boy Next Door A Novel by Sabatini. 5 stars! Finished Shutter Island by Lehane. Also a great read.

Started Under the Dome A Novel. I was saving it for a cruise we are going on next week but didn't realize the book was so HUGE - a whopping 3.5 pounds. The way the airlines are charging for extra weight, I decided to read the book now so I would have room for a souvenir or two.

message 15829: by Claire (new)

Claire (clairebear8) | 514 comments I am just not getting into Firefly Lane so I'm going to pick up something else when I get home this evening from work. Maybe The Heretics Daughter or a Margaret Atwood (Blind Assassin).

Shona, I've requested both of these books from the library, so thank you! Not only do they both seem interesting they will both help me reach my goal in the AtWi 80 books challenge. Also, I haven't read anything by Chris Bohjalian in a while and I'm looking forward to a new read from this author.

I am currently reading The Code of the Woosters.

message 15834: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) | 358 comments Well, apparently I would rather watch Speeders than keep reading Hollister House Legend of the Banyan Tree. since that's what I'm doing right now! I'm about halfway through and don't know if I'm gonna finish. It's awkwardly written, sort of juvenile, and just not very interesting. I hate giving up but I've got so many other books in my TBR pile that I'd rather be reading....

message 15835: by Shayla (new)

Shayla (fallingraindrop) | 6 comments I'm currently almost finished with Gone with the Wind. I'm torn between reading The Story of Edgar Sawtelle or Songs of the Humpback Whale when I'm done with it.

message 15836: by Petra (new)

Petra I finished The Last Chinese Chef and recommend it as a feel good story with lots of texture of food and the history of food in China.

I'm currently reading Fifth Business, the first of the Deptford Trilogy books. I like Robertson Davies' easy going style, his humour and his down-to-earth characters.

message 15841: by Kate (new)

Kate | 119 comments I'm about 100 pages into My Enemy's Cradle with mixed feelings..
I think I'm finding it difficult because usually I read non-fiction on this topic and some fiction elements are kind of distracting...
Its not bad though, and I'm imagining that it will pick up as the story moves forward.

Linda | 887 comments Just started listening to A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy O'Toole and finding it really funny. Also, making progress with Breakfast with Buddha by Ronald Merullo and not sure how I feel about it. Not used to books with a spiritual current in them, but finding it somewhat thought provoking.
