All the Names. Any others you would suggest?"
Hello. I would like to introduce myself, first as a LOVER of Saramago, and second as your humble moderator!
Of course I would be more than happy to direct you to some wonderful Saramago novels.... ☺☺
All The Names is a good one. Maybe a little slow to start, but comes into it's own quickly enough. The Cave is one of my favorites!
As far as recommendations, all of these, but not in any particular order:
Blindness
Seeing
All The Names
The Double
Death With Interupptions
The Cave

SO happy to hear you are loving it! Be sure to visit Audrey in the Q&A group to ask some questions or just gush over it! She pops in there quite frequently.
Carol, I do think, personally, it is a better novel than Time Traveler's Wife... I love the ghost story, the characters and the fact that a cemetery is a focal point!

I think the reason it is taking me so long is because it has no chapters. I tend to read "just one more chapter" a lot and with this one I can't!

Does it appear to be better than Time Travelers Wife?"
Carol, I agree with Lori, I think it is a better novel. But then again, I was one of the few who didn't really click with The Time Traveler's Wife though. I like the characters much better. I feel there is an interesting variety. I think the writing style is great in both, but I still seem to be pulled into this book a lot more than I was with The Time Traveler's Wife.
I'll check out the group now Lori. It'll be interesting since I am reading the book!

I did not click with TTW either. I was hoping this one might be better for me.

I understand how you feel. That is why I got it from the library instead of purchasing it, but I definitely like it a lot. I'll keep you posted if you want.

Yes please
Finished The Dirt by Motley Crue the other day which i enjoyed but it wasn't as good as i was expecting it to be.
Then i started Curse of the Spellmans by Lisa Lutz which i'm now just over half way through. I'm liking it so far, finding it funny with interesting characters plus bonus is its not dragging on for me and i'm getting through it pretty quickly.

Oh, I like Tad Williams. If you like that one you should give the Otherland series a try. It's weird but good.

---------------------
I was disappointed with this book too.
I am in the middle of the 2nd Outlander series book.

So now about a third into both of these books. I can't wait til I'm done so I can read some more of the books that have been impatiently glaring at me on my TBR bookcase.

I'm reading My Sisters Keeper by Jodi Picoult, i think i'm going to enjoy it once i get used to the chapters being from different characters stand-points. I think it might be yet another book that puts me in tears, especially if i can go by peoples comments on here.

Yes, get the tissues prepared. And I'm sure you'll get used to the different character chpaters...it is a major part of the story.

The Outlander Series may be my fave books ever. They are ALL so great! Happy Reading!

JG - nice to see you reading Zelazny. One of my favorites.
I just finished All the Windwracked Stars, a strange mix of Norse myth, dystopia, and techno-magic. It did not have all the allegory or allusions found in Zelazny's work, the characters had more human interest (the author is a woman) - but she had some of the same tendencies to mix ideas with imagination and fearless disregard for logic.
I'll probably be starting Treason's Shore next, to see how Sherwood Smith ends her Inda series.

Slaughter House Five by Kurt Vonnegut
Daughter of Fotune by Isabel Allende
I'm not far enough into either to really have an opinion...but SHF is starting to get on my nerves...his thought are too jumbled.

I love Isabel Allende . Have you read her Zorro, what a fun book. I did not like SHF too depressing.

I always thought the movie was great until I read the book. They don't even compare! The book is so much better; I hope you enjoy it.

I'm starting 2666 by Roberto Bolano. I've wanted to read this book for quite some time but kept putting it off (it seems a bit daunting). I'm ready to dive in now though, and I hope that it exceeds my expectations.
I also plan to read my first Murakami - either Kafka on the Shore or The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. Any recommendations on which one?

I haven't read the book yet for that one, but I watched the movie. I wanted to read the book to see if they did a better job with the ending...is it the same ending as the movie? If so I might skip that one. It was indeed a let down.

The book is nothing like the movie. I'd say the movie is LOOSELY based on the book. I was disappointed as I just finished the book and really enjoyed the movie.

As far as Muramaki goes, I really liked Kafka on the Shore. Very strange, but very intriguing novel. Highly recommend it.
I am currently reading 2 books. Still trekking through The Poisonwood Bible...this book is really rough going for me. I can't seem to read more than 3 pages at a time.
I also started Atonement. Not far into it enough to form an opinion yet.

I am loving it so far Lindsay but I don't know if I'd read it if my hubby weren't here! LOL
