I was disappointed with this book too.
I am in the middle of the 2nd Outlander series book.

message 15004: by Michelle♥ (new)

Michelle♥ Currently reading two books: The Shining by Stephen King and Hiroshima by John Hersey. I also re-read Twilight last night because I'm a dork. I actually broke the plastic seal on the collector's box just to re-read it. Never thought I would do that but my love for a fictional character got the best of me.

So now about a third into both of these books. I can't wait til I'm done so I can read some more of the books that have been impatiently glaring at me on my TBR bookcase.

message 15005: by Liz (new)

Liz I just finished New Moon and am still working on Lady Audley's Secret and Gulyand. Plus I need to start Tender is the Night tomorrow.

JG (Introverted Reader) I'm reading The Guns of Avalon right now. I should finish it soon, then I'll probably pick back up with my Halloween-y books and read I Am Legend.

message 15007: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm reading My Sisters Keeper by Jodi Picoult, i think i'm going to enjoy it once i get used to the chapters being from different characters stand-points. I think it might be yet another book that puts me in tears, especially if i can go by peoples comments on here.

Yes, get the tissues prepared. And I'm sure you'll get used to the different character chpaters...it is a major part of the story.

message 15010: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (nasiryn) Jayme, thanks for the recommendation! I have Otherland to read next. The War of the Flowers is good so far. I like the way the author writes. It's very "real." I felt so bad for Theo for the first 100 or so pages.

message 15011: by Carol (new)

Beth Diiorio (beth_diiorio) | 52 comments Just finished The Secret of Lost Things A Novel and gave it 4 stars. I really enjoyed this story...I am surprised it has received low ratings from other GoodReaders. I thought the characters and the "mystery" were great! Right now I'm reading The Man in the Picture and The Girl Who Played with Fire.

The Outlander Series may be my fave books ever. They are ALL so great! Happy Reading!

JG - nice to see you reading Zelazny. One of my favorites.

I just finished All the Windwracked Stars, a strange mix of Norse myth, dystopia, and techno-magic. It did not have all the allegory or allusions found in Zelazny's work, the characters had more human interest (the author is a woman) - but she had some of the same tendencies to mix ideas with imagination and fearless disregard for logic.

I'll probably be starting Treason's Shore next, to see how Sherwood Smith ends her Inda series.

message 15017: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (nasiryn) I love the Outlander series too but to be honest the second and third book were a little slow to me. But they were so important to give you the build-up to the relationship. I don't really look at the other Outlander books as a normal series because it goes so in depth into the relationship building that the storyline takes more of a back burner. At least for me...

Cay Kelley | 14 comments I just started two new ones yesterday....

Slaughter House Five by Kurt Vonnegut
Daughter of Fotune by Isabel Allende

I'm not far enough into either to really have an opinion...but SHF is starting to get on my nerves...his thought are too jumbled.

message 15019: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (nasiryn) I Am Legend was a complete let down for me. So much build up for a let down of an ending.

I love Isabel Allende . Have you read her Zorro, what a fun book. I did not like SHF too depressing.

Cait (caitertot) | 604 comments Starting The Silence Of The Lambs by Thomas Harris!"

I always thought the movie was great until I read the book. They don't even compare! The book is so much better; I hope you enjoy it.

message 15022: by Cait (new)

Cait (caitertot) | 604 comments I just finished The Book of Ralph A Novel, a coming of age novel that I really enjoyed.

I'm starting 2666 by Roberto Bolano. I've wanted to read this book for quite some time but kept putting it off (it seems a bit daunting). I'm ready to dive in now though, and I hope that it exceeds my expectations.

I also plan to read my first Murakami - either Kafka on the Shore or The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. Any recommendations on which one?

Jayme (jayme-reads) Kelly wrote: "I Am Legend was a complete let down for me. So much build up for a let down of an ending. "

I haven't read the book yet for that one, but I watched the movie. I wanted to read the book to see if they did a better job with the ending...is it the same ending as the movie? If so I might skip that one. It was indeed a let down.

The book is nothing like the movie. I'd say the movie is LOOSELY based on the book. I was disappointed as I just finished the book and really enjoyed the movie.

message 15025: by Jayme (new)

Jayme (jayme-reads) Thanks Christy. I found the movie disappointing so maybe I will like the book!

As far as Muramaki goes, I really liked Kafka on the Shore. Very strange, but very intriguing novel. Highly recommend it.

I am currently reading 2 books. Still trekking through The Poisonwood Bible...this book is really rough going for me. I can't seem to read more than 3 pages at a time.
I also started Atonement. Not far into it enough to form an opinion yet.

Kelly (nasiryn) I agree I read Red Dragon, goodness, like 8-9 years ago and loved it! But I generally think the books are better because the individual imagination is so much better than anyone's visual perspective of what it "should be." :)

I am really happy to see so many members reading Her Fearful Symmetry! Be sure to join us at AUdrey's Q&A group to discuss the novel with her and ask questions.

Even though she is out touring for her book, she will be checking in sporadically to answer what you post!
