BJ Rose (bjrose) | 1489 comments Am about 100 pages into The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I love a good mystery, and this appears to be several mysteries in one. And Lisbeth Salander is an interesting character - looking forward to seeing how her character develops.

I read it several times for high school and college courses and then once again on my own later on. I enjoyed it much much much more when I didn't have a professor picking the book apart and telling me what my opinions of the book and characters should be. Enjoy!

Lori, you'll be happy to know I finished The Beach and it was AMAZING!! I described it to a friend as "most of the book is cruising along happily, bits of tension to keep it interesting, then you start picking up speed and WHAM! The ending is like hitting a brick wall at 100mph." Complete mind-f**k too if you'll excuse the language, but HIGHLY recommended. I'm now reading the Chronicles of Narnia series, needed something a bit lighter after than one :).

Irene (irena47) | 988 comments I finished SCOTTSBORO by Ellen Feldman. After reading it, I asked at least ten people if they knew anything about the Scottsboro Nine and the trial. Only one person knew. This is one of the best books I have read this year. It is a historical novel about nine Black men (some were in their early teens), who were convicted of a crime that was never committed. Ellen Feldman's research and writing make this book a true page turner. And I give it ***** 5 Stars

message 14963: by Writerlibrarian (new)

Writerlibrarian I took a detour in rereading Wilful Behaviourby Donna Leon. I'm rereading the Brunetti series. Always a treat. So I'm going back to Lyn Hamilton The Moche Warrior but I also took out from the library the Mitterand book that's causing a bit of a controversy right now La mauvaise vie. We'll see. I'm on a week long break starting late tonight after class.

I am still in the middle of A People's History of the United States, but I am trying to read some fiction simultaneously, because it's not the kind of thing I can just plow through.

Laura (larsipoo) Currently reading Flashforward by Robert J. Sawyer! My roommate picked it up because we're hooked on the new television show by the same name, and she just FLEW through the book, so I thought... might as well read it too. ;)

message 14988: by Lyn (Readinghearts) (new)

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Laura - I love the new series, too. Is the series based on the book, or is it just coincidence. I may have to check this one out.

message 14989: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (nasiryn) Lauen, Interview with a Vampire took me forever to read too. I remember really getting into it once they moved over to Europe though before that it just kind of dragged on.

I just started to read The War of the Flowers by Tad Williams. It's my first book from him and so far so good.

So far it does seem somewhat based on the book, at least lightly based -- same initial premise (although in the book, the 'flashforward' is 20 years in the future), at least one common name so far (though I won't tell you which one!).

Laura, the book is quite different from the show, I am not sure where the show is going as far as who caused this and what the outcome will be, but the book was very enjoyable... You will like them both, I am sure, for different reasons ☺
