Just the two that you've read; how do you like "All the Names?"
Lori wrote: "Oh Lizzy, that is great to hear. I have the Beach at home on the bookshelf waiting to be read..."
I'm a bit further into it now, and it's getting weird. Still loving it though!

Heather, All the Names was slow to start but was quite incredibly written once I got into the meat of it... he takes such ordinary plot lines and really twists them up!

Eric wrote: "Started Hannah's Dream by Diane Hammond. Just finished Earth Abides by George R. Stewart"Eric: Hope you enjoy Hannah's Dream as much as I did. BTW, everyone I loaned it to loved it as well. Happy reading.
Michelle♥ wrote: "Just started The Shining by Stephen King. So far it's just interesting. I keep waiting for the scary intense music to cue up so I can cover my eyes and peek through a lit..."I've read The Shining and loved it. It is one of my favorite Stephen King books. Just wait, you will get to the scary and creepy parts of the book.
I got bored with Debbie Macomber's The Shop on Blossom Street - I thought it was too predictable and a little too "light". I have read one of her other books, Between Friends, which I really liked. I am now starting The Boelyn Inheritance by Phillippa Gregory.
I finished The Glass Castle A Memoir last night. What an amazing story! Despite the contents, it's still a warm and loving story, I thought. I've now started The Birds Fall Down.
Eden wrote: "I'm reading 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill." Have you read Heart shaped box by Joe Hill? Really good book.
I'm currently reading the Perks of Being a Wallflower. It's going a bit slow for me, but I really want to know how it ends so I'm sticking with it.

Well, I didn't start Too Loud a Solitude. My free book, Templates, from GoodReads came in the mail and I started it. I like to read my free books right away and give them a review. I haven't read enough to have an opinion on this book, but will keep you informed.

Jennifer, I also read this book quite a long time ago. I'm hoping to reread it with the group, but I've got quite a stack from the library that all came in at once! I don't remember a lot from the book, but I remember being disappointed, since I loved all her other books. As you said, maybe I will better appreciate it now.
Karen
I am reading The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. I needed something light to cleanse my mental palate before diving into the Poisonwood Bible. It is okay so far, not amazing but okay, I don't think I will like it anywhere near as much as Harry Potter though.

Thanks. I am about half way through so far and it is starting to pick up. It has been a heartwarming read so far and I look forward to seeing how it plays out.
Right now I am reading Strange Candy by Lurell K. Hamilton- i have also read alot of her vampire hunter stuff. and these stories are totally different. I have really liked it so far. I just finsihed Catching Fire and LOVED it.

It is okay so far, not amazing but okay, I don't thin...I've read the first two in this series Monef, and they are cute but Harry is still my favorite.
Andrea wrote: "I just started 'The Historian' by Elizabeth Kostova and it is kinda hard for me to get into."Yes Andrea, try to stick with it. The beginning for lots of people was hard to get through but it is getting better. On the point two stories will merge it gets really good. I lvoed the book and thought it was an original view on the subject.
I am still reading The fire by Katherine Neville and ..well it si hard concentrating at work when you know this book is waiting for you home.
Heather wrote: "I finished 'Salem's Lot last night. I thought it was just ok...not the creepfest I was hoping for. Now I'm moving on to Suite Française."I read Suite Francaise last year. I enjoyed it. It's heartbreaking to know the story behind it.
Thanks Paula, good to know. I will dial my expectations down and hopefully still enjoy the series as a bit of a distraction from some of my heavier reading material.
Just finished The Girl Who Played with Fire (very good) and started Her Fearful Symmetry (very very good).
I finished The Woman in White, and have started Forge of Heaven. Our local book club has chosen Someone Knows My Name, so that will be next.
Shona... It is very very good, isnt it? I liked HFS so much better than TTW (which shocked me since i really really liked TTW)
Hi, I'm new to you guys. I just finished Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali- Wow! It's a keeper- an important book we should all read by this former Moslem from Somalia.I just started The Book Thief.
Recynd wrote: "I'm halfway through "Belladonna" by Karen Moline (and a recommendation from a Goodreads member), and I LOVE it! It's such a fun read: over-the-top in every way, easy to get into, and a wild story ..."I read Belladonna earlier this year. I got it for a dollar at a library book sale. I really liked it. There is something satisfying about revenge, don't you think?

Hello Lizzie and Everyone,I am new to a actually writing on a Web page. I love to read what everyone else is reading! I have always prided myself with starting and finishing books...no matter what! But, with only one working eye, and it not having any tears, I just had to give up on the 1st Thomas Covenant book when I was more than halfway through. I felt terrible, but when there are only so many days that I can read and only so many hours of that day that I can read, I decided that life was too short and there were too many other books to read and enjoy!

Hi Candy - You'll have to let me know what you think of that one. I had the opportunity to review it, pre-release, and I'm curious as to how my opinions match up with the real world! It's actually quite a bit darker than the other series you mention -- more hard-boiled, lacking the charm but perhaps a stronger mystery. You might also be interested in A Guide to the Birds of East Africa, by Nicholas Drayson. It's also like the No. 1 Ladies' series.
I'm reading Dracula (loving it), and I'm about to start Anita Diamant's Day After Night A Novel on audio. Just finished listening to The Great Gatsby, which I enjoyed tremendously.
Last night I finished Case Histories - Kate Atkinson which had a bit weird ending. Now I am going to listen to Betty : The Autobiography - Betty Driver & Goodnight, Beautiful - Dorothy Koomson & going to read my Book Circle book.
Just finished the lovely book The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs and now I've started to read Blackberry Wine by Joanne Harris.
Lori wrote: "Shona... It is very very good, isnt it? I liked HFS so much better than TTW (which shocked me since i really really liked TTW)"that is awesome to know. I'll have to pick it up soon...good thing my bookstore is offering a discount for HFS...yay : )

Welcome Susie. Have you tried audio books? I have enjoyed many books on audio and with a good reader they can be terrific. Our library had both books on CD and downloadable ones for mp3 players. You are right however, life's too short to waste on a bad book.

The Blind Assassin was a 5 star for me, too. It wasn't my first Atwood, though. She's a favorite author of mine.I recommend The Handmaid's Tale, Oryx & Crake (a sci-fi book of hers and I think I'm in a minority about liking it). I also enjoyed Payback Debt and the Shadow Side of Wealth.
I just finished On the Beach by Nevil Shute. Very disturbing, but fantastic! I'll be starting The Master and the Margarita next.

But I think you might be right about it not being super popular. I also loved Alias Grace and The Robber Bride.
