Just finished Book of a Thousand Days. I really liked it. Now I am back to the Sookie Stackhouse series ( book 3)
I just finished THE SHADOW OF THE WIND and it's 1:30 in the morning. I couldn't put it down until I was done! The first part of the book bored me, but the 2nd part blew me away!! Now I am going to read THE ANGEL'S GAME also by Carlos Ruiz Zafon.
I am happy to see the members who have picked up the Sookie books! Such a great series to just get lost in.... Totally Brain Crandy!!
Just finished the marvellous Keeping the Dead - Tess Gerritsen. Will now read Genesis - Karin Slaughter.

Michelle♥ wrote: "I just read Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane. This was by far the BEST book that I have read ALL year. If you have not read it, I would suggest you pick it up! I literall..."Michelle: I read Shutter Island awhile ago and never saw the ending coming. Whew! I recommended it to several people and they loved it as well.
I have just finished reading You Shall Know Our Velocity! by Dave Eggers and now I am going to start reading Let The Northern Lights Erase Your Name written by his wife, Vendela Vida.
I'm reading The Fiery Cross (Outlander #5) and loving it! By the way Lori and Jennifer, I'm right there with you on Catch 22. I've tried to start it twice and I just can't ever get past the first 50 pages or so. There are too many books on my TBR to waste time trying to get into a book ;)
Kim. Ha! It's good to know I am in such fine company! I tend to get hammered for not giving it more of a chance, but I just can't!! It hurts too much!!
I just finished a really heart warming story (Dusty by Joe Baraba)about a little boy (Timmy) who finds a kitten in a sack and takes him home to his mom to see if he can keep him. The story is wonderfully written. It is a story that children, families and the pet lover will love to read. You can find it on The Book Cubby www.thebookcubby.com
I have given up reading The Lecturer's Tale for now... I just couldn't get into it! I am going to start Amsterdam by Ian McEwan!
I finished "The Beach Street Knitting Society and Yarn Club" and went right to Gil McNeil's website. This book was published in England in 2007 as "Diva's Don't Knit", a much better title. She has written a sequel called "Needles and Pearls" that hasn't been published in the US yet, so I ordered it thru Amazon UK. She has 3 earlier novels that I was able to order thru Better World Books. So you can see, I am definitely a fan.I did get the Kindle version of Don Quixote and that is working much better for me. Read several chapters last night and am enjoying it. It's so silly!

I've been thinking of reading Dave Eggers for a while, but never gotten around to it. And I've actually been to the ice hotel mentioned in the description of the second book. I didn't stay the night though, 'cause it's way too expensive. ;)
I'll have to add them both to my TBR list...
I'm nearing the middle of Kafka on the Shore. I almost quit reading about 100 pages ago, but I hoped the animal torture was just an important thing that had to happen and kept going.
Lori wrote: "Kim. Ha! It's good to know I am in such fine company! I tend to get hammered for not giving it more of a chance, but I just can't!! It hurts too much!!"I gave up on Catch-22 after 20 pages! I was at work on a boring night too so I started to get the shakes from lack of reading material.
I just finished reading The Bridges of Madison County... It has been sitting on my shelf FOREVER just begging to be read! I really enjoyed the movie but the book is even more appealing! Tonight I will begin reading the epilogue to The Bridges of Madison County - A Thousand Country Roads...
Lori wrote: "Oh, add me to that list. I reread the same 40 some odd pages three times before I chucked it. I HATE not finishing something I started, but this book confused the hell out of me. Too much crammed in to too few pages with too many characters... Ugh!"I think that's the biggest thing bothering me about it, too - we've been introduced to something like 30 characters or more within the first 50 pages. It's so confusing!
Rachel wrote: "I gave up on Catch-22 after 20 pages! I was at work on a boring night too so I started to get the shakes from lack of reading material."
I'm really glad to see I'm not the only one struggling with it! I'm going to give it one more go tonight but if nothing changes, I'm done with it for now. As Jessi said, trying to force yourself to read something doesn't usually yield enjoyable results.
I just finished the sequel to Hunger Games...Catching Fire. I gave it 5 stars. I loved it. I'm hoping Hunger Games is out in paperback soon so I can buy it. Also, can't wait for the 3rd. It's supposed to be a trilogy, so I'm hoping for a really great ending.
Just started Eragon by Christopher Paolini and I have the other two in the series waiting at home, so depending on how I go with this one I might do a "book marathon" and knock the whole series over! :)
Along with my book for fun, (Me: Stories of My Life), I'm reading The Scarlet Letter for school. Its not half bad so far.
I just finished reading Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World by Haruki Murakami. I was home sick on my days off from work so I got to really dig in. It was my first Murakami and I really liked it. I was told that there would be a huge twist at the end, which I didn't feel like there was, but overall beautifully written and translated. I am looking forward to reading more of his work, although I have heard that HBWatEotW is quite different from the rest.
I seriously have to put The Monster of Florence to the side AGAIN!I'm halfway through with that book and it's torturous!
I want to finish it to see how it ends, but my goodness it feels like a lot of work!
Anyway so I picked up City of Bones by Cassandra Clare off of my TBR bookcase (there's so many on there I have to get cracking!).
So far it's interesting. Definitely a different world than I imagined it to be! I'm liking the pace, the writing style, and definitely the flow. I'm able to follow along without looking at the page numbers or how much farther along I have until the next chapter.
I like these kind of books; I forgot how much I enjoy YA! :)

I put it on hold and somehow wound up with the large text version! Haven't ever read one in that form but after seeing how much you liked it, I may have to try!
OOoohhh Jo, Dirty Job is a great read! It's my second favorite (Stupidest Angel is in first place!)
Oooh, I loved I Am Legend Fiona! I finished Watership Down and am now moving onto The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami.
Fiona, that is a great book! If you have seen the movie, don't be surprised that it's different. I read the novella first, and love both for different reasons!
I loved Watership Down! It actually suprised me how much I enjoyed it. I was kicking myself for waiting so long to read it.I've only read Kafka on the Shore by Murakami, but fell in love with it. I can't wait to really get into Wind-up...
Started V. by Thomas Pynchon this morning. Reading Pynchon makes me a little crazy but it's like watching a gruesome scene that you can't look away from...and that you keep rewinding to watch again.
Paula, did you enjoy Shutter Island?Linda, I'm so glad that other people are referring this book out there! I feel like I'm plaguing this website now with this book. I keep talking about it, and telling everyone I know to pick it up. Sorry that I've been obsessing everyone, but I'm so glad that others really enjoyed it. And yes, I never saw the ending coming and I think that's why I loved it so much. Also the characters are just so intriguing I wanted to know more about them! I didn't want the book to end!
Just started "The Last Lecture" last night. I don't know that I love the writing style, but I think I'll love the overall concept and message.
I foresee tears.
I foresee tears.

I started Gravity's Rainbow about a year ago, and only got about 50 pages into it before I had to set it down. It was pretty much the wrong time for me to read that one. I'm hoping to try and tackle it again soon, though.
Michelle♥ wrote: "Paula, did you enjoy Shutter Island? Not done with it yet Michelle, I've been working and it's cutting into my reading time, Darn it!! LOL I'm almost 200 pages in and really enjoying it now.
I finished The Hope of Refuge A Novel a wonderful story set in Amish country Pennsylvania by Cindy Woodsmall.I am currently reading Talk Before Sleep A Novel by Elizabeth Berg. I have read two other of Berg's books. One I liked a lot the other not as much. Talk Before Sleep A Novel has started out well, I anticipate a few tears as is about a woman and her best friend who is dying of breast cancer.
Austenland is one of my favorite books ever! I have read City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. I thought it was pretty good. I have read the other two in the series too.
I just started Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer today. I also started Look Again by Lisa Scottoline on audio. My library just started offering audio books for download and I am super excited about it! AND I am going to start reading City of Ember to my kids tonight, LOL!
Dan wrote: "Asa and Darcia,I'd like to hear what you think of Naked Lunch when you finish it. I thought the first 40 pages or so weren't too bad but after that it went downhill fast."
I actually stopped reading at page 45 or so and started over from the beginning, this time not trying to make sense of it. And that seems to have worked.
I have to say I really enjoyed it. In a strange way. A lot of it was completely disgusting, and most of the time extremely confusing. But there were also parts I found hilarious, and almost poetic in the writing.
I can't really explain it right now. Maybe I'll be able to when I've had some more time to think it over.
Michelle♥ wrote: "Has anyone else read City of Bones by Cassandra Clare?"Yeah, I read City of Bones and really enjoyed it. I haven't read the other two yet. What do you think about it???
I'm about 250 pages into City of Bones, and it's just now starting to pick up for me. I'm glad I stuck with it but at the same time I feel myself constantly comparing it to Harry Potter and Twilight. I know that's bad, but the only reason I picked it up was because Stephenie Meyer really liked it and so I thought it was going to be spectacular.I think it's a little too teen-booper-ish for me, so that's why I'm not as enticed as I thought I was going to be. Besides, the last YA book that I was read was Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer.
I'm going to keep reading it though because I want to see where it leads. I feel like I've already guessed the ending. I bought the next one in the series City of Ashes because it was buy one, get the second one half off. We'll see how it goes...
I gave up on Catch-22 for the time being and have just started Olive Kitteridge. I'm not far in, but I can already tell I like the style in which it's written.
