Oh well. Needed something fast-paced to pick me up, so I have just started John Lutz's In for the Kill

Thanks Linda. I made it to a little over 50 pages last night before falling asleep. I am really enjoying the story so far and hope to have more reading time today.

Anyway - on to Little Women.

It was definately a good read. Set in London's golden business district, it is an autobiographical tale of how a young banker saw the economy gradually melt, and how it could have been avoided. It made me realise how materialism has jeopordised our youngsters futures.
Will be reading something a lot lighter next!

Pamela, I read 3 or 4 other of the "Queen" books but The Constant Princess I just could not get into and gave up at about page 20. Maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance. How are you doing with it?

Donna, I am almost done Tallgrass and can't wait to finish it.
Katie and all. I am really looking forward to reading House at Riverton thanks for helping me look forward to it.
Mary, ..."
Marti - I think your analogy of the "redeeming qualities" of the book were perfect. I was shocked that except for the youngest daughter, the children were able to really grow up and make a positive life for themselves. Also, I don't recall them ever harboring negative feelings about either parent (I read it about 2 years ago).

I love this book and the movie!
I am reading Grundish and Askew by goodreads author Lance Carbuncle and it is a riot! He has all these little golden nuggets from literature and films buried in there. There is actually a three page salute to "Of Mice and Men" in there :)
Anyhow, totally worth grabbing if you can get your hands on it. I believe Lance is selling them on his website, but check it out to be sure!

I read Bookends a loooong time ago and really liked it. Maybe that had a lot to do with the bookshop in it...:-)

Michelle, I also didn't over enjoy it but I liked it more when she was with the women....it felt very colourful then.

I know that I will keep wondering about the book, so in stead of torturing me that way, I just keep reading it but sometimes mix it with a different book.

I loved the whole story!!! I hope it changes for you so you will feel the same joy!

I saw the film many many years ago and only read the book this year. I enjoyed both!"
I loved Watership Down and plan on doing a re-read of it soon. I d..."
I loved Watership Down as well and have heard of the movie but never seen it. I'll have to look at the video store for it.

I also just started The Shadow of the Wind. Its a complete change of pace from what I was reading but I am enjoying it so far :)

I also just started [book:The Shadow of the Wi..."
Ashley, The U.S. release date is Oct. 31 for the third book. I am half through The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and I know I'll be running to Borders to get the second one once I'm done.
I don't think you'll be disappointed with Shadow of the Wind either.

I'll pipe in: I loved the way it started (description of small farm life and Edgar's "handicap") and then it lost me in the midd..."
Well, I really want to talk about the book with someone but I don't want to ruin it for anyone either.
Loved the beginning.. loved the wording - curtains pillowed out the window... dragged about in the breeding but I was okay with that and then... that section I want to chat about... Did you finish it? anyone?
OH I am reading Passion, Betrayal and Killer Highlights. This is the second in a series by Kyra Davis. Slightly like Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum.

I am in the first quarter of the book. So far I am loving the descriptions. I like the way he brings the dog's perpective to the story. I have mixed feelings about the characters. What is the purpose of Claude. Anyone have any ideas. Maybe we should start a spoiler thread. I don't want to give to much away for others. I am more than half way through. I edited this post to bring it up to date.

You're reading it already! That didn't take long! :-)
I finished The Book of Lost Things and really enjoyed it. I am a sucker for any kind of re-told fairy tale. I also finished Persepolis 2 The Story of a Return and actually probably enjoyed it a little more than the first.
Now I'm reading Nine Princes in Amber. I haven't gotten far enough into it to really know what I think yet, but I have heard plenty of f/sf fans raving about this author, so I thought I'd try him out.

I didn't finish it... I will probably come back to it when I have a free book list (it was a ring and I had 5 other rings waiting... serves me right for being greedy!)
Is there a thread for it in "Wanna discuss this book?" I didn't check...
Carol: "What is the purpose of Claude" It's Hamlet, more or less, so Claudius...

I'm reading "Chocolat" by Joanne Harris...
I guess I need a dose of magic and something extra sweet. hahaha

October? :) That's not too bad!

Lori, I'm actually not selling them on my website yet. I'm still working on arranging that. Signed copies probably won't go up for sale on Lancecarbuncle.com until later in the year. Meanwhile Grundish and Askew is available on both Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com.

I gave South of Broad five stars.

I gave South of Broad five stars."
I can't wait to read it. I finished The Story Of Edgar Sawtelle. I don't want to spoil it for others.
Thought I might start Bonfires Of The Vanities next
Lance, yes - thanks for that clarification! Sorry if I got overly excited and posted false information, everyone...

How are you finding it? I've read about 50 pages of it so far.

I've been laughing at some neighbors who already have pumpkin and scarecrow decorations out (no offense meant to any of you who are eager to decorate for fall), but I'm dying to read something Halloween-y! Hypocritical of me, I know. :-)

Dracula is not in the same category of Stephen King. If you want scarey go with the King.

Oh yes, this nomination round for October should be fun.... everyone can nominate halloweeny reads.... Dracula was our first, and I can't wait to see what becomes the Themed group read this time :)

Just started the first Sookie Stackhouse book.
