message 13501: by Sherrie (new)

Sherrie (syellico) Just started Unwind after seeing a recommendation on this thread, I believe. Good so far. Also, listening to Made in the U.S.A. which I am really enjoying, the narrator is great!

message 13502: by jmob (new)

jmob (read73) I'm currently reading The Meaning of Night by Michael Cox. I'm enjoying it quite a bit. It moves along like sludge running uphill, but I occasionally like books like that.

message 13503: by GracieKat (new)

GracieKat | 864 comments I started to read The Departed A Novel but I didn't realize when I swapped for it that it was a Christian Chiller. Not really my thing. I did really try to give it a chance because the story sounded interesting but I couldn't get into it. So I went back to Tower Hill which is infinitely better.

message 13504: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments Finally finished Angel's Game. That book took me forever to read (well two weeks but it felt like an eternity. Now I am onto The Memory Keeper's Daughter. I also leave for Florida on Friday and will be taking along The Tenth Justice and Nineteen Minutes.

message 13505: by Mir (new)

Mir Just finished The Forest of Hands and Teeth. It's a decent read if you don't mind hearing a lot about people being savaged by zombies, but I didn't get what all the hype was about.

message 13506: by Claire (new)

Claire (clairebear8) | 514 comments I'm still reading The Time Traveler's Wife and trying to finish it before the weekend so I can go see the movie!

Liz Ana wrote: "I'm starting to read "The villa", by Nora Roberts (as for "The tenth circle", I cant't say that I didnt't like it, but it wasn't her best... I couldn't really empathize with Trixie)"
I agree with you about The Tenth Circle!

message 13508: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 413 comments I just started Jewels of the Sun by Nora Roberts. It's good so far.

message 13509: by alicia (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Bloom by Elizabeth Scott. I HATE IT.

message 13511: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (sbez05) | 556 comments I finished The God of Small Things over the weekend, which I was thoroughly impressed with - talk about a beautifully written book. I started on The Girl Who Played with Fire this morning.

message 13512: by Mir (new)

Mir Have you read anything else by Scott? People keep telling me how wonderful she is. I read Living Dead Girl and it was fine but nothing spectacular or original.

message 13513: by Athira (new)

Athira (Reading on a Rainy Day) (readingonarainyday) Ana wrote: "I'm starting to read "The villa", by Nora Roberts (as for "The tenth circle", I cant't say that I didnt't like it, but it wasn't her best... I couldn't really empathize with Trixie)"

Yeah Ana, Trixie was one character I despised in the book. I just couldn't relate with her and her actions. While trying to create a suspense, Jodi doesn't concentrate much on this character.

Jennifer (JenJen1221) | 215 comments Aths wrote: "I just finished with Nineteen Minutes and absolutely loved it!! Just started The Catcher in the Rye and looking good so far!"

Good to know b/c I want to read Nineteen Minutes!!! And I'm finally reading The Time Traveler's Wife.

Mir City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare. I wish I remember book 1 in more detail.

Eden Silverfox (tsalagi_writer) | 210 comments I'm reading Southern Fire by Juilet E. McKenna.

message 13517: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments I thought book one was better than book two. How are you liking it, Miriam?

message 13518: by Judy (new)

Judy King Kristin wrote: "I'm reading Thirteenth Tale right now and am about 220ish pages in. Once I'm done i'll be reading Time Travelers Wife so that I can go see the movie!"

I'm SO jealous...wish I was just now reading Thirtenth Tale, I LOVED that book and that I still had The Time Travelers Wife to look forward to. How fun!

message 13519: by Judy (new)

Judy King Speaking of YA, ;-) Coming out of the Time Traveler's Wife and the Reader, I finished The Book Thief yesterday. I hated the first 50 pages, couldn't "get" why death kept breaking in with more side information. I tolerated the next 100 pages, kept reading to the mid point, and then, the sky opened and the slightest ray of sun crept in and I read the second half yesterday--and I loved it. Last night I started The Heretic's Daughter by Kathleen Kent...Wow what a book. I put everything on hold this evening and took to my lounge chair to read for two hours. Now am heading to bed to read some more. Love this book. Next? The Miracles of Santo Fico by DL Smith and On Agate Hill by Lee Smith and then to The Lace Reader.

message 13520: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments I finished ANNA KARENINE and I really enjoyed it. Now I am picking up THE HISTORIAN by Elizabeth Kostova. I think I have tried to read it before, but I could be wrong.

message 13521: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 220 comments Starting I, Coriander... anyone read it?

message 13522: by Amber (new)

Amber | 22 comments i finished at first sight [nicholas sparks:] & wasn't that impressed. now, i'm reading belong to me by marisa de los santos. i'm only 3 or 4 chapter in, but so far, i like it.

message 13523: by Mir (new)

Mir @(G)Emma: unfortunately I don't remember book 1 that well... I think they seem about equally good. I found the story -- the revelations, getting to know the world -- more exciting in book 1, but kind of like the characters better now they've gotten to know each other better. Except I don't like how Jace is becoming a jerk.

message 13524: by Beth (new)

Beth Diiorio (beth_diiorio) | 52 comments Recently finished Rules (4 stars), The Magician's Assistant (2 stars), and The Last Days of Dogtown A Novel (1 star). Just beginning Hannah's Dream A Novel .

message 13525: by JSou (new)

JSou Finished Motherless Brooklyn last night and LOVED IT. I picked up Julie & Julia and am surprised at how much I'm enjoying it. It's a very quick, fun read, I'm almost finished with it as well!

message 13526: by Joy (new)

Joy Just finished A Simple Plan - fantastic book!

message 13527: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (angelashly) | 160 comments Just started The Perfect Match by Jodi Picoult on lunch. I was only able to get through the first chapter, but it was a Great chapter.

message 13528: by [deleted user] (new)

I just finished Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill (a.k.a. Stephen King's son) and it was okay. I usually don't like to read scary stories, but this one was a quick read and fairly enjoyable.

I'm about to start Jonathon Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke. It has some good reviews, but is a little out of the genre I normally read. I'm hoping for the best!

message 13529: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jess0702) | 68 comments Ooh, Jessica, I loved Motherless Brooklyn too. I'm working my way through Three Cups of Tea One Man's Mission to Promote Peace . . . One School at a Time, which I'm liking but which is taking me a surprisingly long time to read.

message 13530: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amandanoel) I am currently reading The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice...I had put it on hold while I read The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffeneggar...which I loved!! Now I am excited to finish Lestat and start another great book.

message 13531: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) At the moment I'm just re-reading J.R.R. Tolkien's The Fellowship of the Ring and antoine De Saint-Exupery's The Little Prince =)

message 13532: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1098 comments I'm reading "Switchback" by Stevenson and Bade. It's a time travel. It's kind of slow in places then gets very exciting, just to slow again. I'll suspend more comments until I finish.

message 13533: by Leslie (new)

Leslie (lesliecs) I'm reading Howard's End by E.M. Forster. Really wasn't sure going into it how I'd feel about it, as I loved A Room With A View, hated Where Angels Fear to Tread and was lukewarm about A Passage to India. So far so good, but I'm over 100 pages in and not really sure what it's supposed to be about yet.

message 13534: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Finishing "A Reliable Wife" tonight. Then I need to finally finish "Gilead."

How do you like Tolkien

message 13536: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished B is for Burglar. Even better than the first, I think.

Now I will start The Sunday Night Book Club a "Breast Cancer Awareness Book Ring" - 24 short stories. I recognize only two authors, Alexander McCall Smith and Tracy Chevalier, but it should be fun.

Will also start (soon) The Story of Edgar Sawtelle - I re-read Hamlet recently so I should be prepared!!

message 13537: by JSou (new)

JSou I would love to hear what you think of Edgar Sawtelle, Hayes. I have that in my TBR pile, but actually forgot I even had it until you just mentioned it...God, that's bad.

message 13539: by Linda (new)

Linda | 887 comments Just finished Harlan Coben's Long Lost and really enjoyed it. In fact, I just about broke the land speed record reading it. Coben is a master and very, very funny. I'm thinking about starting Mudbound by Hillary Jordan.

message 13540: by Mir (new)

Tolkien's my favourite author around. I love his imagination, the way he was able to create such a world and his prose =D

Judy, I have On Agate Hill on my TBR shelf. Let us know what you think of it.

message 13545: by Virginia (new)

Virginia Hume I am reading a book by Elin Hildebrand (sp?) Her books just came to my attention. This one is called The Love Season, and I selected it b/c it was the only one at the library! It is engaging... it's one of those "24 hour" books, where all the contemporary action takes place in one day, though with the characters' history blended in. It's a touch gimmicky, with a "big secret coming" -- I've been quite bludgeoned with the foreshadowing. But she's actually got a nice writing style. It looked a little chick-lity from the cover ... or like it COULD be (not that there's anything wrong with that) but it's actually rather decent. Anyway, I gather all her books are set in Nantucket and a reliable friend recommended her.

message 13546: by Maureen (new)

Maureen I'm about half-way through The Reader. So far, it's been a very compelling read.

Tracy (mamallama) | 130 comments I am almost finished with The Good Good Pig The Extraordinary Life of Christopher Hogwood and will probably finish it tonight if I go hogwild. Next, it's on to The Shadow of the Wind. I have heard so many good things about the book. Besides, I have a bit of a wait at the library for the 2nd Percy Jackson book, I need something to fill in between.

message 13549: by Jo (new)

Jo I was in the mood for some Pratchett, so I'm re-reading Jingo.

Lisa, how was a Reliable Wife? I heard about it recently and it sounded really good.

I just finished Everything is Illuminated and it was really disappointing. I think I am going to pick up Reading Lolita in Tehran.
