It is one and the same! The book came out in 1961 I believe and is considered a modern classic (although I had never heard of it before I heard of the movie). Richard Ford has an introduction in the book that talks about it's revered place especially among other writers. So far, it's definitely living up to the hype. My only problem is knowing that it's Leonardo diCaprio and Kate Winslet in the main roles. I'm trying not to picture them!

It might take me a minute to pick my jaw up off the floor...
I've wanted to read Revolutionary Road since I read Philip Seymour Hoffman rave about it a few years back. He made it sound like an amazing read.
Hey Lorena, there's a Idiots Guide...List group. I joined it but I haven't had a chance to check out the list too deeply.

I'm also in the group. Someone has put together a spreadsheet, but I don't know how good it is - I haven't looked. Being the organizational freak that I am, I'm putting my own together so I know that it's accurate! (I have the book, but want somewhere I can tick them off as I read them - I would NEVER write in a book)

I am really curious about the list now, one of the problems I have with the 1001 is that there is so much repetition of authors there.
Lorena, I downloaded the excel spreadsheet that someone put up with all the titles. I'll look at that in a bit. Like you, I can't get off this group site..haha.
I'm just glancing at it and it seems it's broken down by genres, including sci-fi and horror, which in my mind is a good thing.

Or you could just download the spreadsheet from the group. I think it was Santina that did it. I'm sure that's accurate, it's just my OCD side likes me to do things myself.

Chao!

Reader favorites from the last decade plus time-tested classics in each genre.
It has some pulitzer prize winners as well as some classics like Frankenstein or Dr.Jekyll and Mr Hyde so I would think some are on the 1001 list, but not a great many which I believe is part of the appeal for many as the list is very accessible.

I'm more than ready to start Salt by Isabel Zuber!

I just start to read The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy.. I need more self-motivation for classics.. I read fantasy faster 8)

Blimey, you're brave. I find Hardy really difficult, although I did manage to finish Tess of the D'Urbevilles. I bought Jude the Obscure on disc to play in my car but I even got bored of having it read to me! Let us know how you get on with TMoC.

I've decided to not read at all today and spend my day on GR. I can't bear to finish The Last Battle just yet. I guess I'm going to have serious issues finishing series now, since the ending of The Gemma Doyle Trilogy.

Yesterday I started Corpse Candle, by Paul Doherty, which is a mystery set in a monastery in the autumn of 1303. OK so far.

Salt by Mark Kurlansky
It's a pop history book about the role that salt has played in human history from allowing humans to preserve food and thus travel to more inclimate places in the globe to its place as the world's seasoning of choice. It looks really interesting and I've loved Kurlansky's other books- Cod and 1968- whose title's very aptly describe what they're about.

Catching up after being away from the pc all day! Diane - I just read Nineteen Minutes about a month ago and liked it. She skips around from character to character and keeps the pace up. I haven't read any other Piccoult yet but I certainly will.
I shouldn't jinx myself, but I am on the homestretch of my mediocre non-fiction. I like the book but am DYING to get back to fiction. I will be celebrating when the last page is turned. I think I am next going to read THUD! by Terry Pratchett and then move onto one of the books chosen by this group. Anybody else here like Terry Pratchett??

Welcome Claire! I'm fairly new but am truly enjoying the experience.
