My edition had notes on all the fairy tales and myths used to write the book which was wonderful.
I'm reading Dances with Wolves and The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks, and I'm enjoying both of them so far.
I'm reading The Thirteenth Tale and really hooked. Can't wait to see how it ends. Very interesting characters!
I am currently reading Rose of No Man's Land, but I might have to set it aside because I really want to read Abarat by Clive Barker! I found it at Half Price Books yesterday on clearance for $2!!
Mary wrote: "I am reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I am only about 75 pages into it, but I am hooked now."
Mary: I have to admit, I could not put this book down and finished it in one gulp. I probably should have savored it more because it is such a wonderful read that I am still thinking about it and recommending it to all my friends. Enjoy!

Hi Jennifer,
Greengage Summer has been on my list for a while but now I may need to read that next! Thanks for the rec.

Oh me too! I just loved this book!
Just finished The System of the World, which is the final book of Neal Stephenson's Baroque Cycle. I really enjoyed all three books. The review for this last book is Here. Now, I'm reading Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell and enjoying it so far.
I'm still reading "The Girl Who Played With Fire". I'm on Page 138 and it's dragging horribly. Can someone tell me if it gets better? I know his last book had the same problem of a slow start.
I DID IT!!! i finally finished John Adams!!!!even though it took me more than 2 months to finish it, it was totally worth it. i learned so much about Adams and the early years of our government that i had never known before. i am so glad i picked up, and stuck with, this particular book!
Wow, two months with a book. That is determination my friend! I am glad it was worth it for you. I wish I had the thirst for learning more about our countries leaders and history.... That was one of my two worst subjects in school (the other being math!)

Congrats, Maria! I'm still not finished, but I'm getting so close! It *is* a great book, though.
I just finished Girl with a Pearl Earring. I liked it, it was a quick, interesting read. I am still working on Wuthering Heights.
I want the Book of Lost Things so bad! If i dont find it cheap before xmas it will be on my Xmas list for sure. i am really enjoying The Thirteenth Tale, I just love the characters and the way it pulls you in. I take it to work to read on my break but I always end up going over my break time trying to finish a chapter. I hate leaving off a page or two before a chapter ends, I always have to end a chapter -.-
I'm still listening to The 19th Wife A Novel. This is one long book, but I'm almost done! I like it, but will post a review when I'm done. I tried to read Wife no. 19, or the story of a life in bondage Being a complete exposeÌ of Mormonism, and revealing the sorrows, sacrifices in tandem with it, but I don't think I'm going to make it through that one.I'm also still working on Year of Wonders which seems to be going slow for me, but I also haven't had a lot of time to read the last week or so.
I'm hoping to move on to something new soon!

This leapt into my bag at the bookstore yesterday, but I eased it back out... now I'm regretting my decision. How was it?

I just finished "Stiff, The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers" by Mary Roach. I loved it, because she has a sense of humor and a healthy dose of respect about her subject. If you are at all medically minded and interested in western medicine's perspectives on death and the soul, this is a glimpse into that world. Now I'm starting "Invitation to a Beheading" by Vladimir Nabokov. Although the titles seem related and I must appear really morbid, I've wanted to read this one since so much discussion about this author and text appear in "Reading Lolita in Tehran" -Azar Nafisi.
Oh, I loved Stiff. I found the composting burial option very interesting. Right now I'm reading Fortune's Folly and The Animal Activists Handbook Maximizing Our Positive Impact in Today's World and iPhone For Dummies Includes iPhone 3GS while I wait for No Time to Wave Goodbye A Novel to arrive, which is my latest Goodreads First Reads win. I'm very anxiously awaiting the publication on 9/1 of Catching Fire .
Akittykat wrote: "I just started Blindness by Jose Saramago. So far it is interesting."
Yay! Another Blindness reader! This is the book that began my love affair with Jose Saramago!

Kelsey,
Invitation to a Beheading is a twisted sort of novel, but one of Nabokovs best if you ask me (although I have only read a handful of his novels....)

I've set aside "The Girl Who Played With Fire" because it was boring me senseless. I'm now reading Jonathan Tropper's newest This Is Where I Leave You.
Finished the Italian Quarter, which started out as a nice fictionalized memoir of an Anglo-Italian family and turned into a really irritating explanation of why it wasn't so bad that English citizens of Italian descent joined the Fascist Party and followed Mussolini. Really pissed me off: my review here
Maria wrote: "I DID IT!!! i finally finished John Adams!!!!even though it took me more than 2 months to finish it, it was totally worth it. i learned so much about Adams and the early years of ou..."
Way to go, Maria! I have a little less than 50 pages left myself, and even though it's a really good book, I'm definitely looking forward to being done.
I just finished Water for Elephants and absolutely loved it! Now I'm going to be starting Beauty is Therapy Memories of the Traverse City State Hospital by Earle E. Steele.
Just finished When Day Breaks by Mary Jane Clark and started Until the Day You Die by Tina Wainscott. So far good... and creepy!
I started Hannah's Dream A Novel two days ago and cannot put it down. What a delightful read and what a great companion to Water for Elephants though quite different.

I was rooting for Hannah the whole way!
Lori wrote: "Akittykat wrote: "I just started Blindness by Jose Saramago. So far it is interesting."Yay! Another Blindness reader! This is the book that began my love affair with Jose Saramago!"
I am 3/4 way through the book and am loving every minute of it. I can't wait to (see) where it goes.
Ana wrote: "I just started reading "The tenth circle", by Jodi Picoult. "Ana, let us know how you find this book. I read this last month, and didn't like it much. I'd like to know how you feel about the book.
I am reading the 4th book in the Outlander series, Drums of Autumn. I am really enjoying this series! There's so much adventure!
Akittykat wrote: "Lori wrote: "Akittykat wrote: "I just started Blindness by Jose Saramago. So far it is interesting."Yay! Another Blindness reader! This is the book that began my love affair with Jose Saramago!..."
I stayed up half the night. Whew what a book. On to Prozac Nation now.
Right now I am reading Morrigan's Cross for my romance group. Trying to get to some mysteries, though.
Akittykat, Im glad you liked it. Had you seen the movie yet? Suprizingly, it does the book justice. I ♥ Saramago... if you liked Blindness, you should pick up Seeing, its the sort-of sequel to the book.

Congratulations!! It's a big one, but I hope you enjoyed the challenge. It's one of my favorite non-fiction books.
Lisa
I'm reading My Life in France. I can picture Julia Child telling the stories to her nephew as I read the text!!Lisa

Ok. Until now I've loved all the books by Jodi... Let's see.
I'm re-reading Go Ask Alice. Last time I read it was in 8th grade. I figured I would pick up the book since its been sitting around for almost 10 years
Just finished Hannah's Dream this morning and definitely a 5 star for me. Probably cried the last 25 pages, but it was a good cry.
Finished On The Beach. Great apocalyptical novel that makes you peek outside to make sure the world is still out there, unharmed!
Moving on to The Three Musketeers!
