message 13304: by Carol (new)

Carol I read Pillars of the Earth in it's first printing many years ago. I remembered how much I enjoyed it, so I re-read it this past May. It is a book to keep and return to over the years. There are not many I will do that with.

Avigail (avigailr) Well I read "Dear John" by Nicholas Sparks. It is an ok book.
I finished yesterday "The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck and loved it, it's a five star book for me. I loved the way Steinbeck wrote.
Today I will start "The Name of the Rose including Postscript to the Name of the Rose" by Umberto Echo. I have the greek translation (the book has 890 pages, but the letters are preety big).
Have a nice reading day

Hi Michael,
I tried to look up a synopsis of your book
Black Shoes but could not find one. What is the story about?"

Hello,

the book is about a property developer who is having an identity crisis. Through explorations of love, friendships and paranoia, it's the story of a professional man's quest to fight his way through a a maze of stereotypes, and his own personal quest for his identity.

You can find more details and listen to an audio excerpt on my site

if you do get a copy, I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

message 13325: by Margaret (new)

Margaret Dilloway (margaret_dilloway) I'm reading a biography of Andrew Jackson, which is pretty darn interesting...lots of scandal and dirty politics (so what's changed since then? LOL)

I'm also just read UNACCUSTOMED EARTH by Jhumpa Lahiri. I enjoyed it, but did wonder if she gets tired about writing slight variations on the same characters in the same settings.

I did not care for Olive Kitteredge's character initially, but her evolution throughout the book was intriguing. Also read Black Flies A Novel (3 stars). Interesting look into lives of inner city paramedics. I'm now reading Every Last Cuckoo A Novel .

Tracy (mamallama) | 130 comments I'm finally getting to The Sorceress. My library only had one copy and it was on hold for quite a while. My son didn't get to finish it and couldn't renew it, either. I'm hoping I'll finish it by the end of the week so he can finish. I can't afford the late fees. So far, I'm loving it.

Leanna (leannerd) | 73 comments I just finished The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower by Stephen King. It was great...definitely not what I expected as the ending to the series, but it was awesome.

I'm currently reading Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen in preparation for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. It's slow going...lots of dialogue...but it's alright. My goal is to finish it before I leave for school on the 22nd.

Jennifer (rennifred) | 5 comments I just finished The_Greengage_Summer Greengage Summer by Rumer Godden. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/89...

Wow. For me, a perfect book. It transported me to a different time and place (post-war France, 1940's). It was introspective and character driven. It had a plot. It was beautifully written. I guess I'm just an old fashioned girl at heart, but it was simply a corking good read!
