Just finished The Reader and now am starting The Three Musketeers. Loved The Count of Monte Cristo so I am really excited about The Three Musketeers. Yeeps!!
I have The Three Musketeers in my book of to reads. I just have a mountain of library books that moved to the front of the line. I just finished The Secret Life of Bees and almost loved it. I would have given it 4.5 stars if I could.Next on the list is Emma. I am enjoying reading my way through Jane Austen's works.
I just finished the Musketeers... lots of fun. Bogged down a bit at the end, but worthwhile. Can't wait to re-read "The Count". I really liked Bees too, Lisa. Had a few flaws, but overall was really great, wasn't it?
I read both The Reader and the Time Traveler's Wife in the past few days. I loved Time Traveler's wife, I'd started it a year ago and was put off, couldn't "get it" This time I couldn't put it down. Funny I was in a similar situation with The Reader, I'd gotten it when it was on Oprah's list, and then didn't read it. Each time I picked it up, I'd read the back cover and see the part about WWII Germany and put it back on the shelf. It was a quick read, moved quickly, and I'm still mulling over the characters. The book early last week was Patchwork Planet by Ann Tyler--I loved that too.So I'm in a tough position--I'm coming off 4-5 really good books and nothing I pick up quite measures up...I started Miss Garnet's Angel last night. Hoping it pans out, if not I'm on to either a Lee Smith or The Book Thief.
Just finished Janet Evanovich's Finger Lickin' Fifteen. I liked it, but I feel that the series is started to just run together and be the same old thing. If it is going to continue, Evanovich needs to spice it up a bit and add some new characters.Back to Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress.
I've made a switch to non fiction this month, reading They Fought Like Demons, Women Soldiers in the Civil War, and The 5000 Year Leap. Look forward to reading fiction after I get some recommendations.www.jessicajamesbooks.com
Jessica wrote: "Finally finished Life and Times of Michael K last night, and am now starting Ghostwritten by David Mitchell."Jessica, what did you think of 'Michael K'? So far I it's my favorite Coetzee book. I really loved it and connected to it for some reason. It says so much about the human condition. I have a few more Coetzee's on my TBR shelf but they're often so heavy and sad I need to space them out.

The heroine is much more realized and likeable.
Blood lust is based loosely on Vol. 3 and I loved both. They were different enough not to be spoilers for each other.
D stays the same but each both introduces new people and elements to the world.
finished Time Travelers Wife, I wasnt expecting to get so sucked into it but I managed to read it in almost under a day!!!!
Now im moving onto Fragment which was a firstread win for me.

I know. I was totally hooked and couldn't put the book down. I'm glad you're enjoying it!!!
I just started People of the Book and I have a few other books to read this month including one I won at Goodreads First Reads program that I haven't received yet: No Time to Wave Goodbye A Novel . I have been waiting for over a year for the September 1st publication of Catching Fire , the 2nd book in The Hunger Games trilogy. I'm #1 on the reserve list at my library but, if they don't have it available for buying on 9/1 I might find myself in a bookstore.
Read about "First Reads" twice in one day... what's that about?
Hayes,Have a blast:

Goodreads members can enter to win any books on the giveaway list. As soon as you enter, you should put the book on your shelves. If you win a book, you will get a confirmation email, and you should then put the book on your currently reading shelf. You should write a review of the book; if you don't, you're much less likely to win again. I've won 6 or 7 books and I love this program. I make sure to enter to win only books in which I have genuine interest.
Edit: You get to the above direct link by clicking on find books or explore then books and clicking on the giveaway link, then clicking on more giveaway books to see all the current books listed.
okay... just a different name... unfortunately not much is available here in Italy : ( due to copyright probs I imagine... mostly evangelical stuff although I have just entered to win a memoir by the woman who wrote dead men walking.
Thanks for the info/link

Hayes, Goodreads is trying to change that but unfortunately most of the books are available to U.S. residents only, and also often to those in Britain and Canada. So far residents of other countries aren't getting much of a selection. It has to do with authors/publishers not wanting to mail internationally.
Finally finished reading The Great Gatsby. Now, only thing I have to do is to write an essay about it.. and I'm gonna read "The Catcher in the Rye"..
Just joined the group...I am reading The Reader! I enjoy many genres of books. Thanks for having me.
I am reading Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.. I just started it yesterday.. so far I like it.. ^_^

Hi Mom!!
Hi Kathy, welcome and thanks for plunging right on into the group read! I just finished the Time Traveler's Wife and it was exceptional.... such a great love story (which I normally gag at!)
Lauren, I take it Kathy is your mother? HOw cute! A mommy/daughter membership! I love it!

I loved Michael K, Dorie! It was my first Coetzee, but I do have Elizabeth Costello at home. I've heard good things about Disgrace as well.
You're right about Coetzee being heavy. It took me 4 days just to finish Michael K. I loved every bit of it though, and felt I really needed to take my time with it.
Finished The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe and give it a 4.7. Giving a 5 is pretty tough for me, but this one ranks verrrrrry close. Have started Sharp Objects A Novel by Gillian Flynn and so far not bad.
Bhumi wrote: "Jenna wrote: "Just finished Janet Evanovich's Finger Lickin' Fifteen. I liked it, but I feel that the series is started to just run together and be the same old thing. The first one was ok, humerous and I enjoyed it, but I just never have had the desire to pick up any of the others...and its been a couple years now.
I read Time Traveler's Wife and The Best Friends by Jennifer Weiner last week. I am now just starting The Late Lamented Molly Marx.
I'm about half way through Everything That Rises Must Converge by Flannery O'Connor and loving every minute of it.
I gave up the zombies and started The Lord of The Rings Trilogy. Love it so far! Can't believe it took me this long to read.
I'm taking this opportunity at work (while my boss is out of town) of getting some good reading time in for The Shadow of the Wind. I guess when the cats away, the mice will play.....lol!
Claire wrote: "I'm taking this opportunity at work (while my boss is out of town) of getting some good reading time in for The Shadow of the Wind. I guess when the cats away, the mice will play.....lol!"I loved this book. You'll like it too.

That led me to a book by Lisa See--Snow Flower and the Secret Fan--not a topic I thought I'd like but it was a gift and I started it, then couldn't put it down. Fascinating--the world of women in that time. Now I want to read Peony in Love and Shanghai Girls.
I was fascinated to learn about the time of the Balzac book--I had no idea--don't know where I was when that was all happening, probably in Iowa on the farm, canning green beans, pickles and beets and raising kids. The news kinda passed me by at that time
Candy wrote: "Claire wrote: "I'm taking this opportunity at work (while my boss is out of town) of getting some good reading time in for The Shadow of the Wind. I've heard great things about Shanghai Girls and plan to read that at some point.
Hi Judy and Claire, I enjoyed Peony in Love but I have to admit it is a different kind of story. Most people I've talked to like Snow Flower and the Secret Fan A Novel better. By the way, did you know Lisa See also writes a mystery series. I've never read any of the mysteries, has anyone here read them?
Lori wrote: "Hi Kathy, welcome and thanks for plunging right on into the group read! I just finished the Time Traveler's Wife and it was exceptional.... such a great love story (which I normally gag at!)Lau..."
Hi Lori! I am pretty new here as well! Yes Kathy is my Mom! I am hooked on this website! I think I got my mom hooked too! It is so great to be able to talk about my books to people who actually appreciate them! Yay!
I am loving Pride and Prejudice!!
Jessica wrote: "Finally finished Life and Times of Michael K last night, and am now starting Ghostwritten by David Mitchell."Jessica - I loved Ghostwritten, my first David Mitchell. I have Cloud Atlas on my list - can't wait!

Arent they cute??? They are 3 little baby foxes...My maiden name was Fox so I kinda like the little things. I am a cat woman, and 3 own me, but I think foxes are sweet too!

Hi Mom!!
Hi Sweetheart. I havent quite figured out how to recieve the comments to these posts...I just came across them.
"
I'm a newbie....so hello!I am reading two books and neither of which are typical for me I'm more Historical Fiction etc).
Anyway, I was waiting for my library book to arrive so picked up a book from my TBR pile - High Noon by Nora Roberts. I've not read her before but the book was free and a friend quite enjoys her. The next day my library book arrived so now i'm also reading Guilty Pleasures by Laurell Hamilton.
We'll see....
I did just finish 'The Hour I First Believed' by Wally Lamb, (much more typical) and it was fantastic!
Donna wrote: "Hi Judy and Claire, I enjoyed Peony in Love but I have to admit it is a different kind of story. Most people I've talked to like Snow Flower and the Secret Fan A Novel bet..."Hi Donna! I've heard that too, that more people like Snow Flower better - that is on my to read list so I'm looking forward to reading it. I didn't realize she had a mystery series out as well.
Judy, I loved Snow Flower also. I haven't read any of her other ones though. I have Peony, but I have heard mixed things about it.
