Susanna wrote: "Loved The Road, it seems like a hit-or-miss book. Will start the last in the Millennium trilogy, The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest."So jealous of you right now, even though I haven't yet finished the second in the series :)
I've started reading C.J. Sansom's Winter in Madrid. Am only two chapters in but it's shaping to be an interesting read =D
I've just finished Sharp Objects: A Novel by Gillian Flynn (which was bloody brilliant) and am about to start Away Laughing on a Fast Camel by Louise Rennison.
I just started reading the adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. When I first picked up the Adventures of Tom Sawyer i was expecting something completely different than what really happened. And for once I'm glad it didn't happen like i expected. It really kept me on my toes. I didn't know what was going to happen next. And it's the same with the book i'm reading now!!
I just finished Only In Your Dreams, which is a Gossip Girl book, and am about to start Jonathan Safran Foer's Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close which I am TOTALLY psyched for.
Hayes wrote: You mentioned you're not a native English speaker (your English is very good, however, brava!) - what's your native language?and I agree with Michelle about Mockingbird which I loved and still love. Couldn't stomach Catcher in the Rye. Loved Jane Eyre and Hamlet. ,"
Well, my native tongue is Korean.
I read the Catcher in the Rye only in Korean version, and it was sooo hard to understand. And I'll read that book when I finish reading The Great Gatsby..
LaTrica wrote: "Vampire Hunter D, Volume 4 Tale of the Dead Town. I love these Vampire Hunter books. I like Anne Rice's vampires but overall I think I prefer vampires when they're evil and get killed."Are they good? I've never read the translations, but I really liked the anime (and the newer sequel). Post-apocalyptic cyber-horror. Don't get to see that combination much. :)
I just finished Vampire Academy. It was an easy and enjoyable read, and the incredibly strong bond of friendship between Lissa and Rose was really admirable.
I'm currently in the middle of a few books.City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
and Slash by slash
I am still struggling through Gerald's Game by Stephen King, however I did take a break from that to read The Reader by Bernhard Schlink. I really enjoyed it! I finished it in 4 hours!

Mark Twain is the best!! My favorite saying is his: I have never let my schooling interfere with my education.

I am reading Slave Hunter. Interesting non fiction about Aaron Cohen (Jane's Addiction) and his mission to free victims of human trafficking.
Jo wrote: "I just started The Host. Im a bit intimidated by the size of the book (over 600 pages long) and it also has very small print but i want to give it a chance "The Host is really really long, and initially, I was terribly put off by its size, I would read just a few pages a day. But once you get past the first few chapters, whoa, you get hooked. After the slow phase, I finished the book in a day . It gets really interesting after a while, you just need to hang in there. I found it really good, if not for the slow start.

The author's first is one of my favorites! I'm only about 7 pages in but so far it's cracking me up...
Finished Dr Zhivago a few minutes ago. It was ok as far as russian war-time novels go. There were things about it that I didn't agree with and had a hard time placing myself in.
Onto our group read this month -- Time Traveler's Wife.

Right now I am finishing up The Devil in the White City by Eric Larson. It's a true story, mostly about the building of the World's Fair in Chicago in the early 1890's. There is a parallel story about a serial killer too. Hoping it winds up nicely.
Just started Kindred by Octavia E. Butler! I just loved Fledgling and can't wait to finish this book!
Suzanne wrote: "Stephanie wrote: "Almost done with The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, which is OK but not overly impressive. I hadn't read anything by King for a long time and I'm halfway wishing this wasn't the first..."If you've got another King to start your re-introduction with, I'd recommend it. I had The Green Mile sitting on my shelf and I'm wishing I had picked it up first instead. That said, I did like it - I just didn't think it was one of his better works.
I finished Watership Down this morning - what an amazing book! I'm so glad I finally read it.I have about 60 pages left of A Thousand Splendid Suns and it has definitely lived up to my expectations. Absorbing and heartbreaking.

Jonathan Safran Foer is a genius, in my humble opinion. He's one of my favorites. I hope you enjoy it!

still working on Enduring Love by Ian McKewn and started The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo 2 nights ago. I braved the rain and a full mall parking lot on a Saturday night to get it.
Jean Marie wrote: "still working on Enduring Love by Ian McKewn and started The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo 2 nights ago. I braved the rain and a full mall parking lot on a Saturday night to get it. "Well worth it, Jean Marie :)
i finished Always Watching yesterday. i won it through one of the GR book giveaways. it was ok not anything i would have picked up on my own though.i only have 200 pages left in John Adams!! it has NEVER taken me this long to finish a book before. i gave up on both The Stand and Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell because they were taking too darn long. i'm very excited to finish this one, though.
i just saw that Eclipse comes out in paperback tomorrow, so i'll probably pick that up in a day or two and finish that by the weekend. :)
I finished slogging through the ending of Something Wicked This Way Comes. I'm relieved to be done with it. i posted my review if anyone's interested. I'm going to be startng The Bell Jar. I just got finished slogging through 2 books I didn't really care for so I'm ready for an old favorite.
Candy wrote: "I'm really enjoying Urusla, Under and recommend it highly."I loved this book too and I almost never see anyone mention it.
I read so much over the weekend, I'm not sure what I last reported. I'll just say that I'm reading The Map of Love A Novel now and I'm on the fence so far.

Ursula, Under looks great. I'd never heard of it before!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR TIME AND HELP!
Hi, Nate! You'll probably get better answers to a request for recommendations (and keep Lori's OCD in check) by posting this in the "Recommendations, anyone?" folder.
Yvette wrote: "The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. Finding it difficult to get into this book but hoping it gets better...."Yvette,
that's one of the next books on my TBR. Let us know how the book turns out. :-) I have the same problem of getting myself into the book.
I just started reading Middlesex. It's been on my TBR list for a long time. I went out to get it a few years ago but Oprah had just named as her Book Club selection so it was sold out. I picked it up a few weeks ago. So far so good. It's particularly interesting for me because my dad's family immigrated to Flint, MI from Austria to work for the auto industry in the late 1800's!
Just about finished with 'Stiff' and then will start 'Time Traveler's Wife' ... for our August read !!!So many of you have read 'City of Bones' ... Do you--- Never mind... I'm hopping, Lori !!!
I'm reading A Great and Terrible Beauty, Avalon High, and The Summoning right now. All at the same time...
Jennifer wrote: "I'm reading City of Bones and Body Surfing A Novel."City of Bones is great! I'm sure you'll like it.
Finally finished Life and Times of Michael K last night, and am now starting Ghostwritten by David Mitchell.
40 pages more pages and I'm done with The Historian! I've really enjoyed it but whew it's a long book.
Just finished The Reader and now am starting The Three Musketeers. Loved The Count of Monte Cristo so I am really excited about The Three Musketeers. Yeeps!!
I have The Three Musketeers in my book of to reads. I just have a mountain of library books that moved to the front of the line. I just finished The Secret Life of Bees and almost loved it. I would have given it 4.5 stars if I could.Next on the list is Emma. I am enjoying reading my way through Jane Austen's works.
I just finished the Musketeers... lots of fun. Bogged down a bit at the end, but worthwhile. Can't wait to re-read "The Count". I really liked Bees too, Lisa. Had a few flaws, but overall was really great, wasn't it?
I read both The Reader and the Time Traveler's Wife in the past few days. I loved Time Traveler's wife, I'd started it a year ago and was put off, couldn't "get it" This time I couldn't put it down. Funny I was in a similar situation with The Reader, I'd gotten it when it was on Oprah's list, and then didn't read it. Each time I picked it up, I'd read the back cover and see the part about WWII Germany and put it back on the shelf. It was a quick read, moved quickly, and I'm still mulling over the characters. The book early last week was Patchwork Planet by Ann Tyler--I loved that too.So I'm in a tough position--I'm coming off 4-5 really good books and nothing I pick up quite measures up...I started Miss Garnet's Angel last night. Hoping it pans out, if not I'm on to either a Lee Smith or The Book Thief.
Just finished Janet Evanovich's Finger Lickin' Fifteen. I liked it, but I feel that the series is started to just run together and be the same old thing. If it is going to continue, Evanovich needs to spice it up a bit and add some new characters.Back to Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress.
I've made a switch to non fiction this month, reading They Fought Like Demons, Women Soldiers in the Civil War, and The 5000 Year Leap. Look forward to reading fiction after I get some recommendations.www.jessicajamesbooks.com
