Thia is one of the best books I have read this year. The style is amazing, not a wasted word and the background of ordinary life of really very ordinary people in Nazi Germany is excellent. I loved it supreme champion!!

I just finished Borderline by Nevada Barr. I always enjoy her books! And I'm starting The Penny Pinchers Club by Sarah Strohmeyer. I read one of her Bubbles books some time ago and enjoyed it. It seems like Penny Pinchers should be timely.

Currently in the middle of Rebecca and The Unknown American Revolution The Unruly Birth of Democracy and the Struggle to Create America. Finally got The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo from the library today and will have to start it now because I won't be able to re-check it since 60 people are in the reserve queue for it. Also have Naked Lunch The Restored Text on the way at the library and it sounds warped enough that I want to get into it as soon as I can. I may be headed for another period of 5 or 6 books going at once.

I just finished The Talisman Ring by Georgette Heyer, for the fun of a complete change of pace. It still holds up extremely well, for light enjoyment. Next up is Sabriel by Garth Nix for a group read, an unusual side trip for me, since I don't often venture into YA books - not because they are not good, but my reading time is so tight. And on my own account, I'm a quarter of the way through Rift in the Sky.

Oooh Cait, when I read Watership Down I was totally sucked in. It's funny how a book about a bunch of rabbits can be so deep and enthralling :)

I finished the Border trilogy by McCarthy last nite. I loved the All the Pretty Horses, and was sad to find that the other two just couldnt come close to it. He set the bar too high with that one, I guess.

I am now reading The Descent by Simon Clevland. He is a Goodreads author. I am a little confused, tho I think I have it figured out. Im about halfway through, so I will find out soon if I am right or not!

I am very excited as I'm reading a totally amazing book quite unlike anything I've ever read. Memoirs of an Arabian Princess, translated by Lionel Strachey. I'd read all the Sasson books, but they were about Saudi Arabian princesses and just as oppressed as you might imagine. But this one is an autobiography of Princess Salamah bint Said, Princess of Zanzibar and Oman, a not at all oppressed woman. She later converted to Christianity and moved to Germany and was known as Emily Ruete (1844-1924). There are pictures too. Amazing book.

I got it from http://worldebookfair.org/Collections... the women's writing collection which is having a free download (many as you want) for a month.

i've been slacking on my reading and GR-ing lately. football has started, so my nights will be busy, but i'm hoping to get some reading in while practice is happening.

anyway, i've passed the halfway point in John Adams. woohoo! i think i'm going to focus on this for a bit, that way i don't lose ground on it again.

i tried to get Girl With the Dragon Tatoo at my library, but it was out and there were 15 people on the hold list, so i'm not going to be able to read it for the july group read. kinda bummed about that, but i'll get to it eventually.

Oh yes - a friend sent it me from London, so I read it ages ago. It was great, that's why I can't wait to read the second one. But as Fiona pointed out, maybe no sense rushing to it since the third one is a ways off from being published.

Just finished Along Came a Spiderand, it being my second James Patterson, I have to admit that I am just not a fan. I find the first person narrative extremely annoying and, like Dan Brown, I'm embarrassed for him because he is not nearly as smart as he alleged his main character was. I'm no rocket scientist but I hate it when a main character is described as top drawer brainiac educated through the ying yang at a premier university and then they do or fail to do things that are so obvious it makes me want to smack them....there were some good bits to the story but overall definitely not a keeper and I probably won't read another.

I was going to start something on my to read pile but someone here lured me with the temptation of rereading the Anne of Green Gables series for the umpteenth time. I am swept away as always. I'm actually afraid to visit PEI for fear it won't live up to my expectations.

Don't feel bad - I tried to read it last year and gave up after reading nearly 500 pages. I keep telling myself I'll pick it back up again, but I don't know if that's true...

I finished up Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and it was okay. I'm not a huge fan of zombies so maybe that's what killed it for me. Maybe I would have liked Pride and Prejudice and Werewolves better! Or ghosts!

Anywho, right now I'm reading The Hour of the Oxrun Dead. so far it's not grabbing me. I also just finished up Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder. I really liked that. It was pretty funny and it also didn't give off the whole "Cops are so stupid they couldn't solve it without me" vibe that a lot of the Do-It-Yourself Detective books seem to have.
