Leanna (leannerd) | 73 comments I'm working on The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower by Stephen King. It's soo good. Last in the series, which makes me sad 'cause I love the series and the characters...I feel close to them like I did to the HP characters.

message 12902: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 310 comments Leanna-Yeah, that series is awesome. The characters feel like real people.

message 12903: by Ana (new)

Ana | 65 comments I just started "Love the one you're with", by Emily Giffin.

message 12904: by Avigail (new)

Avigail (avigailr) Well I am reading "The Grapes of Wrath"- by John Steinbeck. I read it in igh School and didn't like it know that I reread it 10 years after I love it. I love the way that John Steinbeck writes. I saw in B&N hard cover books with all his works by dacates, I know that I will buy those hard cover books.

I love that series but I'm only up to the 5th book. Hope you enjoy it!

Linda | 887 comments It never ceases to amaze me that with so many diverse reading pallets we always manage to find linkage in the books we love. We always say "so many great books, but so little time." Well, ain't that the truth. I just love that I have had the good fortune to have my mind expanded by the selections of so many people giving me hours of great reads.

message 12907: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) I finished reading Kate Mosse's Labyrinth, which was a lot more interesting than I thought. I'm now on to Ariana Franklin's City Of Shadows =)

What did you think of breathers? I read that last week "

Jo- I really liked it. I thought it was very funny and smart. Not exactly the zombies i'm used to but it really made you root for the zombies. It was an interesting twist on the genre.

message 12909: by JSou (new)

JSou Right now, I'm about halfway through Kafka on the Shore. It' strange, but flippin' fantastic!

message 12910: by Vicki (new)

Vicki I finished Sarah's Key last night and I absolutely loved it. Now I am not sure where to go from there. I think I may start [Book: Secret Scripture] by Sebastian Barry.

Bhumi | 524 comments I'm going to the library soon to get new books! Can't wait.

message 12912: by Bluemoon (new)

Bluemoon (bluemoon286) I am currently reading Sepulchre by Kate Mosse. I went to the library looking for Labyrinth but it was out so I got this instead. I am also listening to The Shack. This is for my local book club and I wasn't sure that I was going to like it but so far it isn't bad.

I enjoyed What's Eating Gilbert Grape. There were some fairly significant differences between the book and the movie. I think I actually liked the movie better. That is very unusual for me.

message 12922: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Eklund (jennifere) | 54 comments Finished The Road and have now moved on to The Hours. Has anyone read The Hours? What did you think?

message 12923: by Pumpernickel (new)

Pumpernickel | 23 comments Hayes and BJ Rose,

Thank you BOTH for directions AND the link! Yes, I finally found it. I was supposed to be travelling since yesterday, BUT it's winter here and with this continuous rain BOTH in São Paulo AND in Santos ( the beach ) , I have decided to put the trip off till Sunday or Monday... URRRRGH !

message 12924: by Pumpernickel (new)

Pumpernickel | 23 comments I have been reading Daniel Silva's The Secret Servant and it is another page-turner and another good surprise, since it's also well written.

I've also been reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and have had some laughs with it. It's well written too, and I think that the fact that it is written through letters is, at least for me, of more interest -- I've always been curious and simply LOVE letters and diaries...

And, since I cannot read a book at a time, and since Lauren has got me sort of 'addicted' to Donna Leon's books, I've also been reading Death and Judgement. I'm half into this book, when detective Brunetti talks to a prostitute and, although they are in Venice, Italy, just guess where she comes from... Yes, São Paulo , Brazil. I know that there is a large number of Brazilian girls who go to another country and end up by being prostitutes, but they HARDLY ever come from São Paulo; most of them are from the Northeast, where possibilities of finding a well-paid job are a lot more limited... Urrrgh!

message 12925: by Beth (new)

Beth Diiorio (beth_diiorio) | 52 comments I recently finished The Remains of the Day (pleasantly surprised - 4 stars), The Little Stranger (disappointing - 2 stars) and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (intriguinging, suspenseful, emotional - 5 stars). I just started The Snapper and Kluge The Haphazard Construction of the Human Mind. The Snapper is utterly hilarious so far :-)

Hi Teresa,
I read The Gargoyle and loved it. It was very different from anything else I've read; I got drawn into the characters and could not put it down. I was very curious to find out how it ended. I was also impressed with the amount of research the author must have done. Did you like it?

message 12927: by Shona (new)

Lisa | 437 comments Beth wrote: "I recently finished The Remains of the Day (pleasantly surprised - 4 stars), ..."

I read The Remains of the Day recently as well, but I found it extremely boring. I'm working on Grimm's Fairy Tales and The Red and the Black right now. Still waiting to get to the library to pick up a few more things to read.

I've read The Hours, it's one of my favorite books! The movie does it no justice.

Just starting A is for Alibi. Can't believe I have never read this series!!

message 12931: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (bellamy22) | 610 comments Hayes,
This is a great series. I live where it takes place and she is very true in description and 'ambience'(!)
You really become quite fond of Kinsey! I think Grafton gets better as the series grows!!!

Have great fun!

message 12932: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks... just at chapter 5 and I'm loving it already!! Now I'll have to read the next 25...

message 12933: by Sherrie (new)

Sherrie (syellico) Just finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and I'm in the minority - I didn't love it. Now I'm on to an easy read, Gone for Good that I can finish this week so that I can start another next week for the Shelf-a-Thon Challenge!

message 12934: by Kevis (last edited Jul 25, 2009 01:08PM) (new)

Kevis Hendrickson (kevishendrickson) I'm currently reading 2012 Seeking Closure by Greg Banks. It's a gripping tale of what happens when the world learns that the Earth is going to be destroyed in 3 hours. How people decide to spend the final 3 hours of their lives makes for some intriguing fiction. Since this book has my full attention and won't let go, I expect that I'll have it done no later than tomorrow.

Beth,

I really liked it.I thought it was graphic-but I couldn't stop reading it.It was as you said very different from what I usually read

message 12936: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Eklund (jennifere) | 54 comments I just finished The Hours and I am struggling to figure out why so many people love this book. Yes, the writing is fantastic, but beyond that, I can find no reason to love this book. There must be something wrong with me. Anyway, must move on to something else. I'm off to browse my TBR shelves :)

Pumpernickel, The Potato Peel Pie book was one of our kinda recent group reads. When you are done, you should check out the group read discussions from it.

Hey Dorie,

I am new to the group and am an Evanovich fan as well. Have you read The Spellman Files series by Lisa Lutz yet? Think Stephanie Plum, but funnier - and smarter. They are hilarious and all of my friends have thanked me for recommending it.

Shona, I really loved that book, too. It's great, and you come to really care about the characters.

Jenn wrote: "Hey Dorie, I am new to the group and am an Evanovich fan as well. Have you read The Spellman Files series by Lisa Lutz yet? Think Stephanie Plum, but funnier - and smarter."

Jenn, I read the first one and liked it enough to get the next book. Unfortunately I haven't yet read it, but it is definitely on Mt. TBR!

I've started Pride and Prejudice and Zombies but I'm having a hard time getting into it. I also started The Virgin Suicides which is grabbing my attention far more.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Finished Marie Antoinette The Journey last night and it was lovely.

I think the next one is a birthday gift I got early, yesterday - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - as my mother snaffed the other one, which was Georgiana Duchess of Devonshire.
