What are you reading?

Hey, thanks LDB!! I'm like you, read Shadow of the Wind and can hardly wait to read Angels Game. It's next up for me. I am going to the author interview now!

Adrienne, I read Amy and Isabelle years ago, so I could never discuss it, forgotten too many details, but I do remember how much I liked it.

And I just went onto our Daily Randomness / Pets and tried to see your pix, but my computer was not cooperating !!! Nasty computer. Love the name, Lucy Furr!

Hi Jan,
you have definately sold it to me a bit more. The movie was good, and very moving. So if the book is better, then I really should read it. I've heard a lot about his other book too. I found it quite difficult to recommend the Kite Runner movie, it was so sad. Just like after I watched Broke Back Mountain, that story stayed with me for a while. Earlier this year, I after I had seen Will Smith's Seven Pounds, I told my brother to watch it. He then called me after he had seen it, and told me to never recommend such a depressing film to him again!

Jan: I read Still Alice and loaned it to a friend with a caveat that it might be both sad and alarming for people who aren't certain if their memories are slipping. We both loved it. If you recommend it (which I think is a great idea) you might tease out which of your friends can deal with the sadness and which definitely can't.

Also listening to "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince". Have to refresh before the new movie comes out.

I want to read Nineteen Minutes, but held off until the summer, since I work in a school. I find most of the novels I have read by her tough to read.

They are tough Vicki, but I do like her. I also work in schools as a library sub so it brings it even closer to me too.

Viki, I loved A Prayer For Owen Meany. It's one of my all-time favorites. Keep enjoying it.

I recently read The Other Woman by Eric Jerome Dickey. I found it impressive that a male author wrote so accurately through a female protagonist. Of course this was just a particular female character, and not 'representative' of all women. A lot of women I've spoken to about the book also said that he wrote well as a woman! I'm looking forward to reading A thousand Splendid Suns too.

Im back from vacation. I was able to finally see how Count of Monte Cristo ends :)
That book took me a month a day to complete! Phew!
Now I am moving on Cormac McCarthy's Border trilogy. I have just started All the Pretty Horses. Even tho I am not a cowboy/western fan, McCarthy's writing is superb and can draw my attention to just about anything!!!!

I loved both the Addison books also Mary. I'm looking forward to a new one.

Kathryn, you are not alone! I agree completely. I hated Sawtelle too, but we definitely are in the minority!

Oooh, I would love to hear what you think of Black Swan Green. I've read Cloud Atlas, and have Ghostwritten waiting at home to be read, but I haven't heard too much about this one!

Starting on Atlas Shrugged and I think Wicked since it's been on my TBR shelf for a hundred years..

Noelle, I totally agree about Lonesome Dove. Very moving story.

You're right Mary, it will be something for me to look forward to!

I really liked The Art of Racing in the Rain when I read it. But since I've read it, I've actually grown to like it even more. I really grew on me the more I thought about it.

Lisa, I agree with "The Art of Racing in the Rain" It just stays with you. I felt the same way about "The Zoo Keepers Wife" It was alittle text booky but I couldn't stop thinking about it.

Shona, I really liked "The Book of Joe". If you like Tropper's writing you may want to check out his "How to Talk to a Widower". Really excellent.

That's quite a change of pace:)

Dorie,
I am really loving the Book of Joe, I will definitely be checking out his other books.

In print, I'm reading What We Keep and really enjoying it so far.

After something like The Scarlet Letter I think it's necessary for a change of pace. :)

I just picked up the Art of Racing in the Rain, it sounds so good.

Lynne/Lisa: The Art of Racing in the Rain is just one of those books that never quite slips away. Other books I have read blur in my mind when it comes to characters and plot lines, but this one is always fresh.

I loved Shadow of the Wind and can't wait to read The Angel's Game. This interview just made me even more excited to read this second book (and the one's yet to come)!
