What are you reading?
Just finished "The Red Leather Diary" by Lily Koppel and really enjoyed it. Starting "Indignation" by Philip Roth--just a few pages in and really like his writing style.
Lisa wrote: "Marisa wrote: "I am sick so last night when I couldnt sleep I finished Away. It was really good. Better than I expected. Today I started The Glass Castle, but I am only 9 pages into it so have not ..."I liked that the characters seemed real. They all had real flaws and no one had a 'perfect' life. I also liked the ending alot , but I don't want to give that away.
I've been reading Stephen King's Just After Sunset, which is his most recent collection of short stories. It's pretty good thus far--like sinking back into a big, comfy chair! It's just a joy to be done with school for the summer so that I can finally take time and read!
Li wrote: "I went back to continuing Joseph Heller's Catch-22 (interesting cast of characters although I do find myself confused at times with what's going on). I've also started re-reading Douglas Coupland's..."I loved Eleanor Rigby! Coupland is my favorite.
After finally finishing up the Outlander series (loved it), I have read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (loved it, too) and am currently reading Lethal Legacy by Linda Fairstein, the latest in her Alexandra Cooper series.
Today I started Mudbound by Hillary Jordan. Only a couple of chapters in, but I think I'm going to like this one.

The Queen and I was recommended to me so I read it first and thought it was very funny. That was last year and I was ready for more laughs that is why I read Queen Camilla. They are great antodotes to heavy books.
Cait wrote: "I loved Eleanor Rigby! Coupland is my favorite."Agreed, I started re-reading it last night and I was like "Wow, I forgot how awesome this book was!" Looking forward to reading the rest; it's been a long time =)
Adrienne wrote: "I'm reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. It makes me laugh a lot."I'm about halfway through but I admit I was hoping for a bit more. The zombies just seem to distract (and detract) from the original story without having enough substance to add anything new. From my perspective it isn't silly enough to be funny in its own right and has interrupted the original flow of the book so as to lose some of the original sarcastic humour that I adore from Jane Austen. Will definitely finish it but it is a bit of a disappointment. Who knows, maybe it will pick up in the second half.
Patricia wrote: "Diane, sorry didn't see your reply. Yes, I love animal books, I have 4 dogs and a cat. My two recent favorites are Hannah's Dream and The Art of Racing In the Rain. "I loved The Art of Racing in the Rain too. Much preferred it to the more popular Marley & Me.
Just finished The AppealIt wasn't Grisham's best but still pretty good.
Going to read Crazy for the Storm A Memoir of Survival by Norman Ollestad next.
This is an ARC I won off bookreporter.com
So far, pretty good.
Claire wrote: "I'm still working on The Book of Lost Things. I'm really enjoying it - its different from anything I've ever read. The chapter on Snow White was really funny! For those of you who read it, did y..."
Loved The Book of Lost Things. Not sure I read or remembered the stuff at the end about the fairy tales generally though...might have to go back and browse through my copy.
Deborah wrote: "Does anyone own a Kindle? Just wondering if you read most of these books in hardback, paperback or e-books? I', trying to decide about the newest Kindle (3)"I don't have a Kindle but I have an alternative eink device and I read almost exclusively on it now. Love it. The new Kindle (3) looks pretty big though, one of the nice things about mine is that it is about paperback size in height and width but thinner and lighter making it very comfortable and portable.
Fiona wrote: "Reading Anne of Green Gables by L M Montgomery and Sabriel by Garth Nix."Fiona and Camerandi, who are both reading Anne of Green Gables. I'm not sure how I missed reading this book while I was growing up, just can't imagine what happened, but I do now own a copy and intend to rectify that gross oversight very soon.
I just finished Season of the Witch today and will be starting Saving Fish from Drowning A Novel by Amy Tan. I'd like to read House of Leaves if it comes today but my boy will be disappointed if I don't read the book he got me for Mother's Day.

It is a lovely book - and surprising. It doesn't take you where you expect it would - nice.

I read my copy in snippets - it's enough that way.
:O)
Grace wrote: " I just finished Season of the Witch today and will be starting Saving Fish from Drowning A Novel by Amy Tan. I'd like to read House of Leaves if it comes today but my boy..."Grace - two excellent books there.
I finally finished Invisible Man for school- fortunately I was able to work it into the challenge. I'm so glad to be done with it. Not that it was a horrid book, but because it was a school reading, I had to focus so much on symbolism and connections and analyzing it, I felt like I could never just let go and enjoy the story.I think my next book will be Between Here and April.
Fiona wrote: "Jeane wrote: "Fiona wrote: "Patricia wrote: "Fiona, I've checked out Dewey: The Small Town Library Cat from the library twice and both times had to return it unread. How was it?"I absoultely ..."
I should check if the library has it because I dont have place for now to put my books, so can't buy any....but end of august I ma going for a wedding to Italy so can leave some books there:-)
Checked online for the library but they don't seem to have it...
Started reading Borderlandsbecause Twenthy thousand leagues under the sea from jules verne is going tooooooo slow.Seems interest. A body of a young girl has been found in the borderlands which is the border between northern ireland and the republic of ireland. Living ere maes it all more realistic and tells you also a bit of history, even if it is only a mini bit.
Stephanie wrote: "Started I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and it's beautiful so far."
I really liked it, particularly the beginning when she talks about being a little girl growing up with her grandmother. I want to read her others too.

I finished Shadow of the Wind and loved it. I am now reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett and loving it as well - can't put it down.

Yep, I'm not very far in but I'm loving all the descriptions of Stamps and her life with her grandmother. The writing is absolutely beautiful.
Grace wrote: " I just finished Season of the Witch today and will be starting Saving Fish from Drowning A Novel by Amy Tan. I'd like to read House of Leaves if it comes today but my boy..."Grace, Saving Fish from Drowning is one of my favorite books. Very witty.
am halfway through The Poisonwood Bible and am having a tough go at it. I really like it, but it sure isnt a page turner. I've been reading it for nearly a week and am only on page 250. Looking forward to a fluff book next!
Petra wrote: "I'm reading The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell and am finding it very intriguing. "I read The Sparrow a couple weeks ago Petra, and I loved it! I am now anxiously awaiting the sequel, Children of God that I ordered and the mailman can't bring fast enough! :)
I finished I Capture the Castle and Dead Until Dark this weekend and will start the second Sookie Stackhouse book tonight.

Jessica, I find myself feeling so badly for Sandoz and I don't know why (yet). LOL! I'm glad to hear the the story remains good until the end and very glad to hear that there's a sequel.
Have you ever read a book that was written by the main character as a first person narrative, but became a history lesson book as well? Angle of Reposestarts out with the main guy, and he is really interesting and I want to read more about HIM and less about his grandparents lives... but that is the whole point of the book... his grandparents past...
I cant put it down because I am just made that way. It takes alot for me to give up on a book, but I keep wanting to scream at the guy to stop it with the history lesson and get back to HIMSELF already!

"Hi Patricia - no worries. 4 dogs - I am jealous! The Art of Racing in the Rain is my favorite animal book so far. You should check out an older book - The Cat Who Went to Paris by Peter Gethers. There was a trilogy actually. Dewey is one of my to reads SOON.

I bought The Red Leather Diary and then saw that Lily Koppel is a Good Reads author. Did you know that?

Catherine (and Sherrie although I did not see Sherrie's post) - I think you should stick with Atonement. I know some parts are a bit cumbersome, particuarly when Robbie is serving time in the war, but this book ended up be one of my all time favorites. You will get to a point when you cannot put it down and I think you will be happy to have read it once you finish.

Bridgit wrote: "am halfway through The Poisonwood Bible and am having a tough go at it. I really like it, but it sure isnt a page turner. I've been reading it for nearly a week and am only on page 250...."I really thought it was interesting but, yeah, it is a pretty heavy book to get into.
Rachael wrote: "I'm currently reading Eat, Pray, Love."Isn't that fantastic, I am looking out for her sequel.
Diane wrote: "Just started Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky and all I can say is "so far so GREAT""Excellent story, tough stuff but we all should learn from it.
I am currently reading Roadside Sisters by Wendy Harmer (Australian comedian now Author of some fun books). It is about three women taking a trip in a camper van.
Also reading Oyster for my Book club "Caffeine and Chapters"
Currently reading The Pemberley Chronicles A Companion Volume to Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. It is one of the most amazing sequels to Pride and Prejudice I've read. I've just ordered the next two in the series.
Bettie (Goodreads Reader!) wrote: "Liz wrote: "About to start A Doll's House by Ibsen."ooh I cannot tip you the wink on Stella Adler on Ibsen, Strindberg, and Chekhov strongly enough. Ibsen - the first modern day ..."
Thanks for the recommendation. I finsihed A Doll's House last night, am otherwise working on the Aeneid.
I started reading Andromeda Romano-Lax's The Spanish Bow; I'm only two chapters into the novel and it's just absolutely wonderful, I'm completely sucked in. I think I'm really going to enjoy this book =D
I have dipped into and read Michael Morpurgo's Billy the Kid and Cool!. Now readin The Okinawa Dragon - Nicola Monaghan.
I am reading Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery. It is thoroughly delightful. I never thought a book like that could be a page-turner, but it has been for me. I love it!
