Is it anything like the Grimms Fairytale movie that came out with Heath Ledger?

Great to hear, Lori, I was waiting for the twisted fairy tales, but of course I'm not that far in yet.
uhm.. I saw that. I liked that movie. Its along the same vein, sort of. But not quite the same thing. If you know what I mean.
Charity, sorry to hear you are sick. I am too. I too am having a hard time with reading. I went from being healthy and reading a 200 page book in 2 days to being sick and am on my fourth day of a 76 page short story! I just can't concentrate OR keep my eyes open for that long. But, I am on the mend. I hope you feel better too.Sherry and Lorena, sorry to hear about your kids.
I sure hope this stuff isnt contagious through the computer.. haa haa... so far so lucky for all of us! Hope everyone is getting better. Its too nice outside to be sick and miserable indoors!
Lori **LOL** my oldest is all better now, I am just bracing and waiting to see if the little one caught it, those of you who have more than one kid at home know what I am talking about.BTW I am reading the road, and enjoying it so far.
Oh my god, I have just got back from town and although I bought 4 books on Tuesday, I have gone and bought another 3 today and that doesn't even include the one I ordered online that I just had to wait in for before I could leave the house or I would have driven myself mad thinking about this lovely shiny new book all alone on the doormat! Do you think I need help?Just started my shiny new delivery - The Story of Edgar Sawtelle and so far so good.
No help required, just a supportive "you're perfectly normal and can't wait to read what you bought(please return the favour when it's my turn to go off the deep end *L*) :)
I sure hope this stuff isnt contagious through the computer.. haa haa... so far so lucky for all of us! Hope everyone is getting better. Its too nice outside to be sick and miserable indoors!Lori... I think it is contagious... have been off work today - feel dreadful! Have spent most of the day asleep! Dragged myself out of bed in the hopes of feeling better, but feeling bad... so am now off back to bed!
I just finished Golfing with God by Roland Merullo while I was on my lunch break and will start My Sister's Keeper whenever I get home from work tonight.
Kirsty, it's like a monsoon here in northern Blighty so I'd love to be stuck indoors (not with your lurgy though - hope you feel better soon). Melanie, really enjoying Edgar Sawtell so far but only 100 pages in. Will keep you posted.
Thanks for the support Sherry, I'm so glad I found this site - I used to think I was alone in my bookaholism but there are loads of me! LOL!!!
I'm almost done with Nora Roberts - Tribute, really liking it. I picked to read The Historian and The Witching Hour for my horrible 6 hour, each way, flight! I'm excited to start them, it's everything I have to not get into them right now! :)
Cassidy - Good luck. I hope you like the Historian. I usually like long flights because it is a rare opportunity to get that amount of consecutive reading time. However, layovers and beer can sometimes affect the reading....
Feeling MUCH better today...thank you! Finally finished Death in Venice and am starting Delillo's Body Artist to read until Book of Lost Things is here.
What has everyone been getting sick with? I have been slowly getting more and more disgusting feeling over the last two days until today I feel dreadful! You guys are contagious! :) I thought it was strep throat but now it's just one in a bunch of nasties. I hate the airport, once I'm in my seat with my book out I'll be fine.
Well I was feeling a bit rough on Tuesday and Wednesday, but felt terrible yesterday. I think there's a bug going around my town at the moment though...
Boof, I have heard nothing but great things about My Sister's Keeper so I'm really excited about it. I'm only 20 pages in (stupid 16 hour work days) and I'm already hooked. And no problem with the nomination, I just read that book in June and think it's a great novel to discuss.
Just about finished with Alienist then im going to start Song of Kali & The 1st book in the dresden files
Hello Lori:My name is Linda. I have always been an avid reader, but since leaving my last job, I have tripled the number of books. I usually read 3-4 at a time, usually very different in topic and tone. I also download books from the local library to my MP3 and read while I exercise. Latest of the books I have thoroughly enjoyed:
The Story of Edgar Sawtelle - David Wroblewski - what a writer and this is his first.
Skeletons at the Feast - Chris Bojhalian - A difficult topic, but well worth the time.
Blue Heaven - C.J. Box - (Audio) This book was great for getting me into the story while doing a couple of miles on the track.
Die for Me - Karen Rose - After the first 20 pages, I couldn't put it down.
Hi Linda, welcome to the group. :)I finished Stephen Kings Drawing of the Three from the Dark Tower series yesterday and have started The Wastelands from the same series.
Linda - I read The Doublebind by Chris Bojhalian and have been meaning to pick up another one of his books. I'll have to check out Skeletons. Sherry - Are you as hooked as others seem to be on the Dark Tower series? I've never read it but am thinking about adding it to my list.
Kirsty, I'm in West Yorkshire so not a million miles from you - I used to live in Mcr though (Chorlton - do you know it?)
Kirsty:I just finished Edgar Sawtelle and am going to tell everyone I know to read it. It is such a wonderful story, I was hooked from page one.
Have you read Change of Heart? Funny, heartwrenching, mystical and wonderfully crafted. Gives a person so much to think (and talk) about.
I just finished The Lost Constitution, by William Martin. It's a novel, with murders, about the second amendment. I liked it.Next up, I think, will be Dark Angels. It's a historical set in restoration London, and looks interesting.
I am currently reading nothing. I just finished The Legend of the Ice People: Small Men Throw Long Shadows (Book 38) by Margit Sandemo and I'll be starting on Book 39 this evening (The Legend of the Ice People: Screaming of Mute Voices).
Okay...I'm reading about what ya'll are reading and I'm thinking that my reading list is a little on the "lite" side. I hope you guys don't kick me out!Maybe some of your choices will inspire me to read some more intellectually stimulating books. Or, maybe not :)
Whoo hoo! I'm not sick anymore. Thankfully, it was only a 24-48 hour variety bug...first day you feel horrid, the second day you are just extremely tired. No need to break out the penicillin (although...my son does start preschool in September, so I better keep some on hand). Sorry to hear that everyone else is sick (and your kids, Lorena). Now we just need to find out who the 'carrier monkey' is... I'm still trying to decide what my next read for tonight will be. I didn't see that anyone else has read Chabon's Summerland so that might be what I end up picking up. Maybe I can actually get a few more in before the August read.
I'm so glad you are feeling better Charity! And everyone else who was sick and under the weather ... I also miss Logan ... ;o)
I just finished an over the top debut novel by J.T. Ellison, All The Pretty Girls!Fantastic!
Reading now a light fluff book, Cross Your Heart and Hope to Die by Nancy Martin. Need some fun silly reads for the weekend.
Jen,I can't say as I'm as involved as some others have been.I feel if I stop reading now I may not get the motivation to read the rest in the series for a long time, though this third book is starting off well.
I finally started Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. I am not too far into it, but I am loving it so far. I am completely fascinated and completely horrified by Chinese footbinding. The author's description of what actually happens gave me chills! OUCH!!!!
Jenna,if you follow up with Peony in love it gives a somewhat different perspective on the footbinding which I appreciated very much as it gives a wonderfully balanced view of the customs and reasoning behind them.
I just finished Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. The footbinding sounds painful. I loved that book. Hope you enjoy the rest of it. I just picked up and started The Song of Kali by Dan Simmons.
Jenna, I had nightmares about it too ... it was such a great book. I am a size 5 in shoes so I am sure I would have been chosen for the torture if I were born then and there. I bought Peony in Love, its there in my shelf looking at me saying "pick me ... pick me" one day, little peony, one day!
