I'm impressed you made it through. I've started it a couple of times and hope to one day pony up to read the whole thing... but just first chapter was enough to turn me off. My own family dynamics are strange enough at times for me to not want to sit down and read about other family's awkwardnesses as well. I feel it's one of those books that will require me to have a bottle of Xanax beside me.

What do you think, Eric? It didn't do much for me and I had to fight to finish it.

I love that series! What do you think of Lyra and her daemon??

I am! It's definitely more of a children's/young adults book, but so far I'm enjoying the story and the character Coraline herself.

El, thanks for the interesting post. I haven't read Oates in years, as I have generally found her novels rather uninteresting. Your description of A Garden of Earthly Delights, however, makes it sound well worth picking up.

I just started Handle With Care by Jodi Picoult.

Yeah, spread the SVU love! I am obsessed with that show.
But back on the reading front...I flew through the last 150 pages of Remember Me? today and am now reading Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen.

I just finished Lock & Key by Sarah Dessen. I loved it. It was a bit of a slow start but I loved it in the end.

That's awesome, Heather! :) I will be interested to hear how you like it once you read it. I found it to be a bit emotional, yeah. I cried a lot at the ending. I just really felt like I knew the characters by the end, so it was definitely emotional in that way. I hope you enjoy it! :)

You know when I read a book it isn't jsut to read a book. Sometimes they touch me so much that it coems till in my life, my thoughts. So I discuss with people what I think about it, answer on what others tell me they think about it, even tell them what I wish people would do but don't tell them what they have to do otherwise I am not going to talk to them anymore. Nope, just share what I think and listen to what they think and respect them for their opinion. A book can't stop with it was nice and interesting. It has an impact on me so it goes much further, it influences my life. Like this one, and there is even a Plan B 3.0 Mobilizing to Save Civilization if anyone is interested but wants a more updated version. what was great is that at the end there were books the author recommended which looked interesting....my mountain is getting bigger than the everest.....

After your initial post saying you were reading it, I looked it up and it does look really good. I am glad to hear that it is. I added it to my TBR pile, but I don't know how long it will take me to get to it...

I've been eyeballing this book for a while. I read Whiteout and absolutely loved it. But I understand these books are very different. I might just put this book on my wishlist after all....

Have you read What the Dead Know A Novel ? That is the one and only book I have read by Lippman. It was pretty good.

That's awes..."
Those Who Save Us is on my all time favorite list.
It's an amazing story!

The only one of her's that I have read is To the Power of Three. It was pretty good. What the Dead Know A Novel looks good. Maybe if I see it sometime at a disconted price, I will pick it up!

Now I'm reading The Smoke Jumperby Evans.
So far, not bad.
Has anyone read Lisey's Story by King?
Would love to hear some opinions. I received it as a bookring and I'll be reading it in the next few weeks.

Yay, first time I´ll read with the group \o/

Thank you for the comment El....I think I've read one book by King and it was so long ago, I can't remember which one it was. Maybe The Stand.....not sure.

It's an amazing story!
Hey Kellie! Your review is the reason it got added to my TBR ;)

Great!! Glad to help spread the good word about favorite books!

I also read not just for entertainment (although certainly for that), but also for insight, for ideas and to enable me to see the world in new ways. I read this thread (religiously) to learn not just what people have been reading, but also what they think about those books and what impact the books had on them. I'm not advocating proselytizing, but I really appreciate the occasional, "Oh wow, this made realize...."

McEwan is a fabulous wordpoet. His prose is poetry, and the plot really sucks you in and doesn't let go.

Jeanne- I LOVED Watermelon!! I actually love most of Marian Keyes books.

Laura, I don't know if you've seen the movie or what you thought of it, but I will say that I really enjoyed Atonement when I read it and I think that the ending of the book provides much better closure than the ending of the movie.

Me too! I read a little today too! I´m just waiting for the topic to open so we can discuss it freely lol I´m actully making notes about it to use them when the topic opens!
The only think it´s bothering me a little is the long chapters...
Maria, I want to read Dead Until Dark too! You read the paperback edition? Is it a good quality one? I don´t know which edition to buy :(

Life is good

Yes, dear Susanna - has your reading year come up trumps so far for you too? I don't know whether you are up for a January 2010 read of The Quincunx. I know it's a long time ahead but it is a big book to consider and dark cold days are best for Libbeth, Wanda, Lee and myself. It will be a much yearned for re-read for yours truly.

glory be Fiona - 51! I did read some pretty tasty stuff last year but it wasn't one book after another like this year, of course there have been a couple of mehs but the overall feeling is splendiferous.

The Anatomy of Deception - Lawerence Goldstone
Torn Apart: The Heartbreaking Story of a Childhood Lost - James Patterson & Hal Friedman (audio)
Endal: How One Extraordinary Dog Brought a Family Back from the Brink - Allen & Sandra Parton
Like Water for Chocolate - Laura Esqivel
The Family Bones - Kimberley Raiser
