What are you reading?
I'm still working on Breaking Dawn. I've been on vacation for the past week and a half, so I haven't gotten much reading done. Let me say, I like Bella a bit more now, but she is still annoying. And, I still don't like Edward. I know, GASP, right? lol I'm also reading the online version of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and I had it bookmarked here at work. Maybe I'll get a little further in today.
just finished Eat, Pray, Love One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia and now on to The Time Traveler's Wife
I am half way through with Smashed, Squashed, Splattered, Chewed, Chunked and Spewed by Lance Carbuncle. I bought this book because of the mention of it on this site and I am not disappointed.
I just finished Tar Heel Dead Tales of Mystery and Mayhem from North CarolinaThis is a great book of murder-mystery short stories written by various authors of N. Carolina. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I am now reading Freakonomics Rev Ed A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything
So far it's really interesting! I'm liking it!
Just finished The Book Thief (what a sad story, but I liked it) and A Thread of Grace. Now starting The Stolen Child A Novel and The Gargoyle. Not sure what I think of The Gargoyle yet. It's an audio and the narrator is very nasal, it's kind of annoying me. On deck, I have The History of Love A Novel and Atonement.
I just started Lamb - the story of Jesus written by his best friend Biff. It's pretty amusing, I have to say i was pretty skeptical.
Lori wrote: "im cuurently about half way thru The Book Of Lost Things... It is dark, for sure. Though, the part where he first met Snow White had me laughing out loud!
I finished The Historian. It was ok, but I wasn't really in to it. I finished Rebecca yesterday. I really enjoyed that book. I knew about some of the characters as they were in the Thursday Next books, but I had never read the book. I'm glad I have now.
I also read Who's Looking Out for You? It was a fast but interesting read.
Sherrie wrote: "Just finished The Book Thief (what a sad story, but I liked it) and [b:A Thread of Grace|16..."You have a nice list of books there. I loved the Book Thief and enjoyed Stolen Child and The Gargoyle. The beginning was a little tough, but I really liked Marianne's parts. I know how you feel about audio though. I can't listen to annoying voices. I also have Atonement and History of Love to read.
Lori wrote: "Snow white was my favorite part!!"I really enjoyed that part too... I just finished the book on Sunday.

actually i am part of that group...i've just havent been very active lol
Just finished My Dearest Friend: Letters of Abigail and John Adams and am now onto Boy Still Missing by John Searles.
I had to interrupt my reading of "A Breath of Snow and Ashes" by Diane Gabaldon because I received a couple of books I had reserved at the library. So I'm currently reading "All That I Have" by Castle Freeman Jr. It's a very short book at only 176 pages. So far it's pretty good.
Well, I took a break from Snow Flower and the Secret Fan to read a recently received book, "Mr. Wroe's Virgins". I'm glad I didn't pay for it because it's going right back on the swap list!So now I'm back to Snow Flower and enjoying that much more.
Stephanie wrote: "Currently reading Rebecca by Daphne du Marier and enjoying every minute of it."I love that book.
Ann- I'm interested to know how you like Jesus Land. I read it about a year ago, and was awestruck at everything...
Vicki wrote: "Sherrie wrote: "Just finished The Book Thief (what a sad story, but I liked it) and [b:A Th..."Vicki,
Thanks for the comment on The Gargoyle. I was actually not sure if I as going to continue it - not because of the narrator, but because I just don't see where this story is going...I'll keep going. I'm about 1/4 of the way through.
Will finish The Calling - Inger Ash Wolfe (ML) today and will either listen to Spilling The Beans - Clarissa Dickson Wright (Audio/ML) or read Tethered - Amy McKinon (ML).
I just started Bright Lights, Big Ass by Jennifer Lancaster. I needed a light, funny read, and loved her 1st book, Bitter is the New Black.
Kim wrote: "I just started Bright Lights, Big Ass by Jennifer Lancaster. I needed a light, funny read, and loved her 1st book, Bitter is the New Black."I loved this one even more than Bitter.
Pretty in Plaid is coming out in May by Jen Lancaster... cannot wait to get it!! I loved all her books. So funny!
Angela wrote: "Pretty in Plaid is coming out in May by Jen Lancaster... cannot wait to get it!! I loved all her books. So funny! "I know, there are so many great summer reads coming out in May, June and July! Jen Lancaster, Karin Slaughter, Lisa Gardner, James Patterson... :)

Hope your enjoying it.
I am reading Middlesex and struggling with it a little bit. I thought I would pick up Marked - PC Cast- last night to compensate but I am having a hard time with that one as well. Hopefully one or the other improves soon. What were others opinions of Middlesex- did anyone else struggle with it at first??? Did it get better?
Shelley - I really liked Middlesex, and it's been a little bit since I read it, but I do remember getting bogged down in the beginning with all the back-story. However, I still thought it added so much and the pace does pick up. Hopefully you start enjoying it more soon! :)
I've just started an older book called "The Women of Roundtree". I'm less than 50 pages so don't have an opinion yet. Very snowy today so I should be able to make some progress later.

I just read Middlesex and I have a review out there if you are interested.
Trust me, the 2nd half of the book is much better. Don't give up on it. I don't know why the author went into so much detail about the grandparents...I didn't see the relevance. I was about ready to quit reading it but after I got past 1/2 way, I started to like it much better.
Kellie wrote: "Shelley wrote: "I am reading Middlesex and struggling with it a little bit. I thought I would pick up Marked - PC Cast- last night to compensate but I am having a hard time with that one as well. ..."I think the author went into a lot of detail about the grandparents because without them, there could be no story. That's where the gene defect came in.
Elizabeth (Alaska) wrote: "Kellie wrote: "Shelley wrote: "I am reading Middlesex and struggling with it a little bit. I thought I would pick up Marked - PC Cast- last night to compensate but I am having a hard time with tha..."I should be more clear.
Grandparents are important. Just thought their story was too long and dragged out. Could have cut it down a bit.....
Fiona wrote: "Will finish The Calling - Inger Ash Wolfe (ML) today and will either listen to Spilling The Beans - Clarissa Dickson Wright (Audio/ML) or read Tethered - Amy McKinon (ML)."Fiona, I see (ML) after many of the books you mention. Did I miss the explanation for that somewhere in the thread?
I just started reading 1632 by Eric Flint. It's a series of alternate history books. So far, it is really intersting. Set in the 30 Years War, which I don't know much about.
Jessica,I started an Iain M. Banks thread Here because that author has made a strong impression on me--and I am not certain a positive one.
However, even among his big fans, The Wasp Factory seems to generate some skepticism.
I'm still working on my feelings about Banks. Maybe read some more of him; but not for a while.

Alisha, I read The Kindness of Strangers quite awhile ago, but the story has stayed with me. Would be interested to know what you think.
