Hi! Yes I liked Angels & Demons very much. It was very intriguing and kept me wondering if they were going to save the Vatican. I have The Glass Castle but haven't started it yet. I am now reading The Book of The Dead by Patricia Cornwell. Almost done with that one. Then on to..........Don't know for sure. Haven't made a decision yet. Take Care!!

Having said all that......so far I am enjoying the book a lot :>))
Finished Fourth Bear, and thought it was ...eh.... just ok. Took forever for the story to really get going. And I dont think I care for Ffordes writing overall.
Also finished reading Dead Fathers Club. That book was really good. The only complaint I have is that the narrator, Philip, was supposed to be 11 years old and the book felt like it was being told by someone much younger than that. (my son is 10, and seems to have a better grasp of the english language than Philip does). But I didnt let that stop me from throughly enjoying the book.
Now I am reading Lamb by Christopher Moore. I except great things from this one! Hope I am not setting myself up for failure.....

Since my last post I have read Post Office by Chuck Bukowski (a very quick, easy read. I love the style this guys writes in. Very grumpy guy-next-door), Earth Abides by George Stewart (took me about a week to finish this one, it drags on alot, but very interesting take on one mans struggle to rebuild society and community after a devasting plauge wipes out almost all of humanity), and I am currently reading The Princess Bride. ---> Im am only up to the part when Fezzik is preparing to kill the man in black, and I am loving the fact that the movie has stuck very closely to the book. I can hear the characters talking as I read (cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Andre the Giant....)

I am currently 120 pages into 'Notes Of A Dirty Old Man' by Charles Bukowski. It has been YEARS since i have read a book of short stories... I like his style, very gritty and straight foward. Short stories just really arent my thing... This may be my last attempt at reading one for quite awhile. I prefer getting lost in a full novel... following characters for more than two or three pages.

Obligatorily pulsing thru 2 books loaned me on teaching..The Differentiated Classroom: Responding to the Needs of All Learners by Carol Ann Tomlinson & Teaching Outside by LouAnn ...My list of wanna-buys has grown in this category and that of language (I have been a language student for many years).I recently re-read Venus and Mars on a Date by John Gray (which I have loaned out to a foreign female friend who does not quite "get it"--our American concept of "dating" or "cat and mouse" as I like to call it! LOL).....
Um....and The Giver I better finish listening to the tapes (& remove my foreign language tapes which I have resolved to try to study at least once or twice a week). The more I hear about the Newberry medal winner (The Giver by Lois Lowry) the more I want to sit down & just read it cover to cover!! Off to Boookman's to search for The Fifth Child & In Pursuit of the English by Doris Lesser OH AND Black House by Stephen King!
Like Scottk & many others here...if there were but time--for all the reading & Yoga & Tai Chi I am trying to learn & do regularly....
right now i am about half way thru A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore... And absolutely loving it. His characters are great.... The storyline keeps you wondering what the heck is going on. Just when you think you got it down, he throws something else into the works, and your left scratching your head again...
I liked it so much, I ran out last nite with the family, and after dinner, we all went to borders (10% off total purchase) and everyone got a book. I bought his novel Blood Sucking Fiends...

OFTM is a re-read. I wanted something light-hearted and funny that I could zip through. Besides, after all this time, Stephanie, Ranger, Lula and Morelli feel like old friends.
I haven't read any of Moore's books yet but I've heard, and read, good things about them so I'm looking forward to getting to both of those as well. Happy reading ~
Cindy... I am currently reading A Dirty Job and it is a really great book! Im about 3/4ths of the way thru! I also read Stupidest Angel (Love it!!!) and Lamb (it was good....)..... I also have BloodSucking Fiends - which i think is the first book to You Suck.... I could be wrong. Anyhow, you cant go wrong with Moore!
I would be interested in what you think of his novels are you are reading them!

Loved Loved Loved A Dirty Job. Easily one of my (many) favorites!
I started Bringing Out The Dead last nite, about 70 pages into it... I have wanted this book for ages, but its older and was out of print, or pulled from the shelves. Finally ordered it online through a used book store and it came yesterday! So glad I have it.
My hubby is a Paramedic, so i cant sort of relate to it. Plus I liked the movie when it came out. The author was a consultant for the film, so I may have to rewatch it when I finish the novel to see just how close it ran to the book.

Started The Stolen Child, two chapters in. Interesting concept. Children being stolen by faries/changelings and they live each others lives... one willingly, and one, not so willingly.....
Is everyone so fully enthralled by their current reads that they cant find time to share them with us? (sniff sniff)
I finished The Stolen Child last nite. I wasnt sure how i was going to like it. But i quickly found myself unwilling to put it down, and once it was down, i was dying to get back to it.
A big part of that had to do with the fact that I wasnt exactly sure where the book was going to take me in the end. I really enjoyed it and thought the ending tied everything together quite well.
One complaint tho... I could have used a little less description with the whole symphony/organ/piano thing. that was a bit overdone at times I thought.
Onto The Preservationist now....

Shary,
I dont know why, but I always mean to pick up A Prayer For Owen Meany and then when I get to the bookstore, I just dont. Everyone always has great things to say about it too.... One of these days I will have to force myself to buy it.

By the way, I'm new to the group and notice that everyone seems to read VERY quickly. I'm lucky to get one in a week. I'm jealous!

A prayer for Owen Meany? That book is awesome! I think Owen Meany would go down as one of my favorite characters in a book.

A Prayer for Owen Meany has been in my 'to-read' pile for several, several months. I don't know why. I am enjoying it. It's funny but also a little sad. I'm about 3/4 of the way thru and hope to finish it this weekend.
Welcome to the group Jen!
Shary, I guess i will definetly have to pick that one up soon. I hate being the last one on the planet to read something :P

Ky, what do you think of that book? i liked the whole idea of it, but thought it got a little slow at times and waaaay too descriptive. The author seemed to linger too much on the furniture and texture and reminded me of an antique lover who just happened to write a book... or maybe that is just the way i am remembering it. I thought overall tho, (not counting that) it was a decent read!

on monday i started Bloodsucking Fiends by C Moore, and finished it this morning. And since i liked it, i ran out to the bookstore today and bought You Suck, which I have just started.
Whats everyone else reading?

well.... finished you suck yesterday. I dont know really know why, but i like christophers vampires better than your regular run of the mill vamps.... He puts such a humorous spin on it!
Monday, I am going to start Sharp Teeth. this will be the first Epic Poem that i attempt to read and i bought it in hardcover, so it better be good, thats all i have to say. Its about werewolves, so im keeping with a theme here, it seems!

Finished Sharp Teeth last nite. it reads fairly quickly, tho a big part of that is due to the fact that is written in poem form (free verse, not rhyming, thank god!), which means less words on a page. But it was a really fast paced, page turner of a novel. It was totally worth the full price of the harcover.
However, i am currently reading Ghost - by Alan Lightman, and i also bought this one in hardcover (gulp!) and so far it is NOT worth the money i dropped on it. the first few pages started out great, the narrator is just writing stuff down and you think your are going to be taken for this great rollercoaster of a ride, and then, all the other chapters are written in third person, and talk alot about the past, and plah... get to the good stuff already. isnt there any good stuff? I hope the first chapter wasnt a full out tease. That would upset me.
Has anyone else read this? does it get better? its really slow right now....
