What are you reading?
Finished Love & Biology at The Center of the Universe (enjoyable, really), and just started The Italian Secretary by Caleb Carr (a further adventure of Sherlock Holmes).
I just finished The Second Assistant by Mimi Hare. Although it is a chick lit, it actually has a lot of interesting action that goes on with how a movie becomes a movie or how a script gets attention. As well as being hilarious. The girl who wrote it was the youngest director of development at the age of 23 for a Hollywood production company, where she wroked on Jerry Maguire and As Good As It Gets. I thought it was a very interesting chick lit book and read it in about two days.I've started "This Charming Man" by Marian Keyes and LOVE IT.
Jessica, I am so happy to hear that you enjoyed it! Are you planning on reading more by him? I would suggest The Cave or Death With Interruptions.......
Lori wrote: "Jessica, I am so happy to hear that you enjoyed it! Are you planning on reading more by him? I would suggest The Cave or Death With Interruptions......."I am reading the Life of Pi, The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever by Julia Quinn, and Dragonfly in Amber.
I finished Revenge of the Spellmans and I loved it! I seriously cannot pick a favorite out of the Spellman series. I think they're all awesome. Now, I have to start counting down until the fourth one comes out (I'm very impatient, by the way). Now, I'm reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt. I've heard great things about it, so I hope I end up liking it.
Paula wrote: "I'm just starting "Legacy of Masks" Sallie Bissell. It's the 4th and final chapter of Mary Crow. I've loved this series and hate to see it end."I didn't realize it was the last one. Do you know why it ended?
I am only about halfway through Winter's Tale. This book is kicking my butt. It's really good, but I spend so much time trying to figure out the symbolism that it's taking me forever to read it.
Carole wrote: "... and just finished reading Junot Diaz's Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao."
did you like it?
did you like it?
I just finished Blindness by Saramago and finished Year of Fog by Michelle Richmond right after. Blindness got 2 thumbs up and Fog got 2 thumbs down...I'm not sure why it took me so long to read Saramago but I'm so glad I did! I think his new book - Death w/ Interuptions sounds great!
Lisa wrote: "Justine wrote: "I'm reading the third book in the Stephanie Plum series and wondering what I ever did without these books."don't you just laugh out loud? Let me ask you--Morelli or Ranger?"
MORELLI!!!!!!!!!!!!
Right now I am reading A Prisoner of Birth byJeffrey Archer next it will be the fourth in the Janet Evanovich series.I love Stephanie Plum!
I'm currently reading A Midwife's Tale The Life of Martha Ballard, Based on Her Diary, 1785-1812 only about 50 pages into it. It's a neat historical peek into midwifery and general women roles during early America.
After The Sparrow, I needed a bit of a break from intense fiction. I started Aczel's God's Equation, but apparently I have already read it. So, I've moved onto the 3rd Sookie Stackhouse, which was just what I needed after 3 hours of reading an Epidemiology textbook (even though the Epi book isn't bad).Hayes, Brief Wondrous Life is one of my favorite books of all time.
Currently reading Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs. I'm hoping to read her next two in the series as well as book one from her in another series in the next couple of weeks.
Alisha,I just discovered that "Revenges of the Spellmans" was released on 3-10-09. I can't believe I missed the release date. I've ordered it and anxiously await its' arrival!
I'm glad you thought it was good.
I loved "The Spellman Files" so much that I went to the bookstore and bought it, after I read a library copy, to ensure Lutz would be able to publish another book. It worked!

I've just finished reading The Dunciad, which I enjoyed but probably didn't fully understand. Next I'll finish the one chapter of A Theory of Adaptation which I have remaining.

I think she said it was because she was just done with these characters. She was going to quit after 3 and decided she had one more in her. It's been 4 years since she's written anything, so I don't know, there is nothing new on her website.

Fiona wrote: "It was omg, so dark and I can't actually describe it. But it was gross in parts and so weird that I am so glad its over with.It was very dark and weird but I realized that it was all caused from mental illness. It's not a beautiful, or even a good story, but it does make you think. I actually felt sorry for the characters.
I am currently reading Twilight. It is so good and I can't believe that I am almost done with it. I can't wait to watch the movie after I read the book. I am definitely going to read the rest of these books. I am a twilight fan now.
I decided to put The Secret History down for the time being. I just wasn't in the mood for it. Right now, I'm reading Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen and it's good so far. I have a feeling that I'm going to like this one quite a bit. Though, that doesn't suprise me seeing as I loved the movie.

Welcome Twilight fan! <3
I just finished reading Love in the Time of Cholera and have started The Audacity of Hope Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream.Love was interesting enough, and beautifully written, but I didn't find that it had much of a plot. I will wander over to the group read thread for this book to take a look at all of the comments and perhaps post some more of my thoughts there.
I read The Secret Magdalene by Ki Longfellow last year and this year I'm reading it again. I need to feel again what I felt the first time, elated.

I am storming through Cold Granite - Stuart MacBride at the moment. Should be finished by 2nite or tomorrow. My nxt book is Blood Test - Jonathan Kellerman .
I just watched Twilight the movie and was finally inspired to start New Moon. This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I find myself enjoying New Moon a lot more than Twilight. I feel like Meyer's writing, while still not my favorite, has improved quite a bit. Bella also seems like less of a wuss...at least so far.
I just watched Twilight too and thought it was good. I liked the book better because the movie seemed to move to fast for me. I am reading Eclipse, which I think is my favorite so far because it has Bella's relationships with both Edward and Jacob into the book. The first concentrated on Edward, whereas New Moon concentrated on Jacob.
I just started Bridget Jones' Diary! It is a pretty good light read. So far I am enjoying it. I will be finished with it by the end of the day and will be starting the second one. :)

I am just starting Eclipse as well. I didn't really like New Moon as much as Twilight. I've heard Eclipse is better. I'm looking forward to a little "light reading"..

Angels Fall was fantastic!
Kristin Hannah's Things We Do For Love was good, never read anything else by her, tho...
I just started with The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Had it on my TBR-list for quiet some time and thought it is about time for it.
MaryZorro wrote: "The Book Theif is the best book of the past year for me."
I completely agree. It is a really great book; stays with you well past finishing.
Jeanne, after reading "Bridges of Madison County" I kept looking at National Geographic to see if he was really a photographer for them! LOL
MaryZorro wrote: "I'm reading Empire Falls by Richard Russo."I have that on my TBR shelf and can't figure out how to fit it into the Spring Challenge. I'm hoping we'll have a challenge for father's day like the mother's day one. It will be the first one I read for the Summer Challenge if so.
I bought Steven Galloway's The Cellist of Sarajevo a few days ago and have started reading it. It's quite an interesting read so far :)
Paula wrote: "Jeanne, after reading "Bridges of Madison County" I kept looking at National Geographic to see if he was really a photographer for them! LOL"
wasn't he ased on a real character? I am not sure anymore.
okay it is fiction but:The Bridges of Madison County is a 1992 best-selling novel by Robert James Waller which tells the story of a lonely Italian war bride who engages in an adulterous affair with a National Geographic photographer from Bellingham, Washington who has come to Madison County, Iowa in order to create a photographic essay on the covered bridges in the area. The novel is presented as a novelization of a true story, but it is in fact entirely fiction. However, the author admitted in an interview that there are strong similarities between the main character and himself.[1:]

I am now starting Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. Has anyone else read this one?
Carole-I loved the Blind Assassin too! Would love to hear what you think of it.
