JSou Just finished Blindess by Saramago. It was amazing! I actually picked this one up after hearing so much about it here...especially from Lori! :) Thanks for the recommendation!

I am now starting Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. Has anyone else read this one?

Carole-I loved the Blind Assassin too! Would love to hear what you think of it.

message 9653: by Maureen (new)

Maureen Finished Love & Biology at The Center of the Universe (enjoyable, really), and just started The Italian Secretary by Caleb Carr (a further adventure of Sherlock Holmes).

message 9654: by Keara (new)

Keara Clifford (KearaClifford) | 24 comments I just finished The Second Assistant by Mimi Hare. Although it is a chick lit, it actually has a lot of interesting action that goes on with how a movie becomes a movie or how a script gets attention. As well as being hilarious. The girl who wrote it was the youngest director of development at the age of 23 for a Hollywood production company, where she wroked on Jerry Maguire and As Good As It Gets. I thought it was a very interesting chick lit book and read it in about two days.

I've started "This Charming Man" by Marian Keyes and LOVE IT.

Jessica, I am so happy to hear that you enjoyed it! Are you planning on reading more by him? I would suggest The Cave or Death With Interruptions.......

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments I finished Revenge of the Spellmans and I loved it! I seriously cannot pick a favorite out of the Spellman series. I think they're all awesome. Now, I have to start counting down until the fourth one comes out (I'm very impatient, by the way).

Now, I'm reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt. I've heard great things about it, so I hope I end up liking it.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments I had very mixed feelings about The Secret History; but other people have loved it.

JG (Introverted Reader) Paula wrote: "I'm just starting "Legacy of Masks" Sallie Bissell. It's the 4th and final chapter of Mary Crow. I've loved this series and hate to see it end."

I didn't realize it was the last one. Do you know why it ended?

JG (Introverted Reader) I am only about halfway through Winter's Tale. This book is kicking my butt. It's really good, but I spend so much time trying to figure out the symbolism that it's taking me forever to read it.

message 9661: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I'm just starting on "Roots" by Alex Haley. I'm about 45 pages in, and it is interesting so far...

Jaime (jaimechm) I just finished Blindness by Saramago and finished Year of Fog by Michelle Richmond right after. Blindness got 2 thumbs up and Fog got 2 thumbs down...I'm not sure why it took me so long to read Saramago but I'm so glad I did! I think his new book - Death w/ Interuptions sounds great!

Susan (NY) Right now I am reading A Prisoner of Birth byJeffrey Archer next it will be the fourth in the Janet Evanovich series.
I love Stephanie Plum!

Jen (oshngirl) | 34 comments I'm currently reading A Midwife's Tale The Life of Martha Ballard, Based on Her Diary, 1785-1812 only about 50 pages into it. It's a neat historical peek into midwifery and general women roles during early America.

message 9667: by JuliAnna (new)

JuliAnna | 85 comments After The Sparrow, I needed a bit of a break from intense fiction. I started Aczel's God's Equation, but apparently I have already read it. So, I've moved onto the 3rd Sookie Stackhouse, which was just what I needed after 3 hours of reading an Epidemiology textbook (even though the Epi book isn't bad).

Hayes, Brief Wondrous Life is one of my favorite books of all time.

message 9668: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey Currently reading Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs. I'm hoping to read her next two in the series as well as book one from her in another series in the next couple of weeks.

Leshawn | 73 comments Alisha,
I just discovered that "Revenges of the Spellmans" was released on 3-10-09. I can't believe I missed the release date. I've ordered it and anxiously await its' arrival!
I'm glad you thought it was good.
I loved "The Spellman Files" so much that I went to the bookstore and bought it, after I read a library copy, to ensure Lutz would be able to publish another book. It worked!

I didn't realize it was the last one...

I think she said it was because she was just done with these characters. She was going to quit after 3 and decided she had one more in her. It's been 4 years since she's written anything, so I don't know, there is nothing new on her website.

It was very dark and weird but I realized that it was all caused from mental illness. It's not a beautiful, or even a good story, but it does make you think. I actually felt sorry for the characters.

message 9679: by Traci (new)

Traci Marquette (tracimarquette) | 7 comments I am currently reading Twilight. It is so good and I can't believe that I am almost done with it. I can't wait to watch the movie after I read the book. I am definitely going to read the rest of these books. I am a twilight fan now.

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments I decided to put The Secret History down for the time being. I just wasn't in the mood for it. Right now, I'm reading Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen and it's good so far. I have a feeling that I'm going to like this one quite a bit. Though, that doesn't suprise me seeing as I loved the movie.

Laura | 45 comments I just finished reading Love in the Time of Cholera and have started The Audacity of Hope Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream.

Love was interesting enough, and beautifully written, but I didn't find that it had much of a plot. I will wander over to the group read thread for this book to take a look at all of the comments and perhaps post some more of my thoughts there.

I read it when I was like 16 or 17 and loved the whole story, the landscape description AND his job and how he practised it to get the right picture.

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I am storming through Cold Granite - Stuart MacBride at the moment. Should be finished by 2nite or tomorrow. My nxt book is Blood Test - Jonathan Kellerman .

message 9688: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 10 comments I just watched Twilight the movie and was finally inspired to start New Moon. This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I find myself enjoying New Moon a lot more than Twilight. I feel like Meyer's writing, while still not my favorite, has improved quite a bit. Bella also seems like less of a wuss...at least so far.

message 9689: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments I just watched Twilight too and thought it was good. I liked the book better because the movie seemed to move to fast for me. I am reading Eclipse, which I think is my favorite so far because it has Bella's relationships with both Edward and Jacob into the book. The first concentrated on Edward, whereas New Moon concentrated on Jacob.

wasn't he ased on a real character? I am not sure anymore.

message 9700: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments okay it is fiction but:

The Bridges of Madison County is a 1992 best-selling novel by Robert James Waller which tells the story of a lonely Italian war bride who engages in an adulterous affair with a National Geographic photographer from Bellingham, Washington who has come to Madison County, Iowa in order to create a photographic essay on the covered bridges in the area. The novel is presented as a novelization of a true story, but it is in fact entirely fiction. However, the author admitted in an interview that there are strong similarities between the main character and himself.[1:]
