Picoult publishes books so quickly! I feel like she must write constantly without sleeping or eating (although that's obviously not the case).

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Just finished Crocodile on the Sandbank - the solution was most melodramatic, in appropriate Victorian fashion. Fun read.

message 9503: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Just finished Step on a Crack - James Patterson & Michael Ledwidge. Will now read Judge & Jury - James Patterson & Andrew Gross.

Mosca | 828 comments Finished reading A Thread of Grace by Mary Doria Russell.

So I'm starting something different. Since I've never read anything by Michael Chabon, reading The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay might be a good start.

Leah (ling_ling) | 226 comments I've been working on the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice of late but for a breather I'm reading currently The Poe Shadow A Novel by Matthew Pearl.. I liked his first novelThe Dante Club A Novel.. and I like Edgar Allan Poe, historical fiction, and murder mystery .. this book has all three!

message 9507: by Liz (new)

Liz I just finished Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors--I really enjoyed it, and it may just tie with Twelfth Night for my favorite Shakespeare play (not that I have read them all).

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) | 1045 comments I am not sure if I already posted this or not, but I am ready to start reading The Thirteenth Tale.

message 9509: by Chrystal (new)

Chrystal | 144 comments I had started One For the Money, but the library called today and my turn for Breaking Dawn finally came. I decided to start that one because I can only keep it for two weeks....the wait list on this one is so long it's not renewable, so I figured I could put One For the Money on the back burner because I can more than likely renew it since it's an older book. So on to Breaking Dawn for me!

message 9510: by Knarik (new)

Knarik I finished the Breaking Dawn.i liked it, but I don't think that The Twilight Saga is as great as Harry Potter was.
Now I am reading Ray Bradbury's the martian Chronicals.

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Grave Sight by charlaine harris: it is really good. First I was dissapointed that this wasn't the sookie serie but I am enjoying it. She finds dead people...

A Traveller's Companion to Dublin
So interesting and I am only at the long introduction which i guess is a very good sign.

The Book of Lost Booksby stuart kelly

still very interesting but haven't read much lately. It is my bus book and haven't been feeling my normal self the last times on the bus.

Angela's ashes
well I put it on as reading because I thought it would help me start....

Knarik, I read MArtian Chronicles last summer and thought it was really strange. A good strange, but strange :)

Jeane, I bought the Grave Sight series but havent started it yet!

message 9514: by Rory M. (new)

Rory M. If you've read Frankenstein this post is for you!

I thought it was interesting that "the creature" was not assembled by body parts but actually created by Frankenstein. Popular culture continually portrays it the other way. I found it interesting that Frankenstein was a chemistry student, thus, the creature was a new species, separate from humans. Shelley was a trailblazer - the first super "human"!

Liz, I liked Change of Heart far and away better than The Pact. For me, The Pact just seemed to go on interminably.

Rebbie, I've only read a few but I really liked My Sister's Keeper.

message 9519: by Brittany (new)

Brittany (wifethatprays) I began reading "Emma" because "Friday Night Knitting Club" wasn't light enough for me. Just read two books that weren't too light... kinda dark, kinda deep... and I need some frivolty!

My Sister's Keeper is by far my favorite Piccoult book. I also really enjoyed Plain Truth and The Pact. I haven't read all of her books but My Sister's Keeper just stands out above the ones I have.

message 9521: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments Pick a favorite Jodi Picoult? Seriously? LOL, I love every one that I have read, although to varying degrees. My favorite is probably Plain Truth while my least favorite was Songs of the Humpback Whale but only because it is a very different style than the rest of her books.

I sure will, Sondra. It tends to take me a little longer to finish a book because I mainly read on the bus, but I'll let you know as soon as I finish. I'm liking it so far but am only on about page 40ish. If I had a good block of time, I would probably sit and read this in its entirety. So far, it seems to be a book that will be hard to put down.

Claire (clairebear8) | 514 comments Hey Fiona, just wanted to let you know that I adored I Capture The Castle. It just makes me want to be in the English countryside and really gave me the feeling that I was right there with Cassandra. She is such a wise young girl, smart beyond her years. Thanks for the great recommendation! Its a charmer (and so funny)!

message 9524: by Coral Rose (new)

Coral Rose (coral_rose) Are we allowed to say what we don't like? I'm in the middle of Bel Canto, and while I think Ann Patchett is tremendously talented and has an incredible writing style, I feel like her characters and plots become caricatures and bunny trails. I read Run and after a two week diet of M.F.A. fiction, I relished the smoothness of her prose, but I can't seem to get fully behind her plots. I feel like in Bel Canto, Roxanne ends up as just a shell for the opera, which is disappointing. :-( Maybe I'm just a grouchy reader.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments I started Pardonable Lies A Maisie Dobbs Novel, by Jacqueline Winspear, last night. It's as good as the other ones, so far, I think.

I am also a MK Andrews fan. I have met her a few times and had my picture taken with her (and it was posted on her website for a while)
My favorite books are the Savannah Breeze/Savannah Blues books. Love Weezie and her sidekick.
I have Deep Dish, but I haven't read it yet.
Hissy Fit is good too!

Kelly | 204 comments Alicia what was the subject that upset you so?

message 9541: by Liz (new)

Liz By Jodi Picoult, I've read My Sister's Keeper, Keeping Faith, Vanishing Acts and The Tenth Circle. Keeping Faith was probably my favorite. Perhaps we should just start a Jodi Picoult thread!
Lisa, I read P.S. I Love You, and although it was cute and heartwarming, I thought Ahern overused the word giggle.

message 9542: by Elizabeth (Alaska) (new)

Elizabeth (Alaska) Kelly wrote: "Alicia what was the subject that upset you so?"

The Pact deals with teenage suicide.

My feeling is that all of Jodi Picoult's novels deal with contemporary controversial issues, any one of which could be upsetting. I think Perfect Match A Novel, might be the most controversial of the ones I've read, which deals with pedophilia and the Catholic church.

message 9543: by alicia (new)

alicia grant (shesha556) I just found the whole thing upsetting the fact that the kids had a suicide pact and how it came about.Plus I did not like the way the parent's friendship unfolded and the the things that came out.The whole novel just really depressed me.

You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay is the non-fiction read of the moment.

message 9547: by JuliAnna (new)

JuliAnna | 85 comments Susanna, I also enjoyed both The Alienist and The Crocodile on the Sandbank. I never heard of Maisie Dobbs, but it sounds like another good detective series set in an interesting historical period. I'll have to check it out.

I finished The Wind-up Bird Chronicle which was a little uneven but definitely interesting. I'm reading The Sparrow, since all of my friends who have read it have loved it. Plus it has gotten high recommendations here.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Maisie Dobbs is not the standard kind of mystery story, but I enjoyed it a great deal.
