What are you reading?
Finished Two For The Dough and now started Grave Sight. I think I didn't read the back cover well at the library because I found out it is about someone who feels were dead people are...hope it doesn't get too creepy.
How did you like Brass Verdict? I usually love anything by Michael Connolly, but have not read this one yet.Debra wrote: "Just finished The Brass Verdict by Michael Connolly and started The Magician's Book (I won from Good Reads) last night."
Finished Behind the Scenes at the Museum A Novel and will start The Measure of a Man A Spiritual Autobiography by Sidney Poitier today.
i am done reading The Reader.I hate the fact that it had to end i missed ,i loved so much.I got into the story of Hanna and Michael Berg,i found their romance exciting and beautifully and so wrong. When,Hanna is on trial i felt so sympathetic toward her,and to my surprised only passing compassion for the victims
I just recently finished Black Dahlia by James Ellroy. I am now reading The Moviegoer by Walker Percy. Anyone read this? So far I'm not liking it.
I've read Walker Percy, but not, I think, The Moviegoer. What aren't you liking, Kellie - the writing or the plot?
I finished reading "Beat the Reaper" and enjoyed it, although some parts were a little too violent and vulgar for my taste. But overall I liked the main character and the bits of humor thrown in. But it made me never want to go to the hospital. I hope he was making that stuff up.Anyway, I'm now starting "The Leisure Seeker", about a married couple in their 80's who flee their controlling doctors and adult children and go on a last vacation together. John suffers from Alzheimers and Ella has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Sounds like it will be weepy but it's been a while since I've read a sad book, so I'm ready.
I started reading Brandon Sanderson's Elantris (for a change of pace; been reading a lot of general fiction lately) and it is really good so far, very promising :)

Both....
I'm not that far into it so I may be jumping the gun

The only other Kate Atkinson I'd read were mysteries, but, of course, with her fantastic writing style. Not knowing she wrote anything other than mystery, I was surprised by this one. But also very pleased. There were some laugh out loud parts and I'm not one to laugh out loud reading. It is also serious, and it gets better as the book progresses. I give it 4- stars.
Morgan, I've read four Jodi Picoult novels and The Pact is not one of them, but one I'd really like to read! Let me know what you think of it!
I just finished The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, and while I hated the subject...I liked the book. Now I'm on to something a little more light hearted....One For The Money by Janet Evanovich.
I am reading Secrets in the Attic by VC Andrews.and also going to start Water for Elephants tomorrow.Since it came in from the library
Finished The Book of the Dead by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. It was just okay.I think next I'll start Winter's Tale before winter gets away from me!
Ann from S.C. wrote: "I am now reading THE BROKEN WINDOW by Jeffrey Deaver. Just finished CLUB DEAD and loved it."Hey Ann, I didn't know you were a Deaver fan. Have you read all of the Lincoln Rhyme books? They are great! I've read them all and they never disappoint.
Kelli wrote: "Li wrote: "I finished reading The Book Thief last night so now I've started reading A Complicated Kindness by Miriam Toews. "The Book Thief is on my to-read list. Did you like it?"
Kelli, My book club just discussed The Book Thief last month. This is a group that "never, never, never" agrees on a book as a group, but everyone loved The Book Thief. I was blown away by how they responded to it.
Liz wrote: "Morgan, I've read four Jodi Picoult novels and The Pact is not one of them, but one I'd really like to read! Let me know what you think of it!"Morgan, Liz: I recently finished The Pact and thought it was an interesting concept, but have to admit it got a bit long in the tooth at times. I like Jodi Picoult's books and am looking forward to reading her latest, but she tends to get long-winded with some topics. However, on the whole, I think you will like the book.
Just finished Loving Frank A Novel. It took me a brief period to really get into the story, but once I did, I was hooked. I was fascinated by the time, the people and the architectural details of the book. Gave it a 4 and would recommend as a great historical fiction read.
I am reading Gomorra and I find it fascinating. Disturbing and uncomfortable, but really interesting.
Linda, glad to hear you enjoyed Loving Frank A Novel. I had picked it up at my library's book sale before I'd seen it in bookstores (an ARC), and have been recommending it ever since.I decided to set aside the Sidney Poitier book - wanted something else - and picked up Bel Canto by Ann Patchett. Cannot put it down!
Elizabeth wrote: "Linda, glad to hear you enjoyed Loving Frank A Novel. I had picked it up at my library'..."Elizabeth - glad to know you are liking Bel Canto. That's my book club's pick for next month so I picked it up from the library but haven't cracked it open yet. Now I'm looking forward to it!
Emilly wrote: "i am done reading The Reader.I hate the fact that it had to end i missed ,i loved so much.I got into the story of Hanna and Michael Berg,i found their romance exciting and beautifully and so wrong....Emilly, I just finished this book also. I thought it was a very good book and a very touching story. Like you, during the trial, I felt more sorry for Hanna also. Very touching book.
Stephanie wrote: "Reading The Art of Racing in the Rain. It's alright, but I expected more from this book. How far are you, Stephanie?
I'm just starting "Legacy of Masks" Sallie Bissell. It's the 4th and final chapter of Mary Crow. I've loved this series and hate to see it end.

I just finished it yesterday actually. It picked up a lot and I ended up liking it, so for me it was just a slow starter. I ended up liking it.
Started Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters last night, and am really enjoying it. Wonderful atmosphere: Egypt in the 1880s.
Susanna wrote: "Started Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabe..."Susanna, this has several 5 star reviews from bookreads members. I went ahead and added it to my Wish List, but please let us know your own impression.
Linda and Elizabeth, I loved both Bel Canto and Loving Frank. We read Loving Frank for my in person book group and it got rave reviews.I am still reading Telex from Cuba A Novel, about half way through and I was wondering if anyone else has read it. I don't know much about Cuban history and I am wondering how accurate it is?
I finished I Capture the Castle and loved it. Over the weekend, I started My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. This is the first of her books that I am reading. Hopefully I'll like it.
Elizabeth ~ My face to face book club read Bel Canto a few years back, and I, too, loved it. It was my first Ann Patchett novel, and I've picked up a couple of more. I read The Patron Saint of Liars a little while back, and realized that I really, really like her writing style. (BTW, although I enjoyed "Liars," and would recommend it, it didn't quite live up to Bel Canto.)
I'm reading The Revenge of the Spellmans right now (it's really good). I'd taken a break from I Capture the Castle while I was out of town, but I'll return to it once I finish my current book. I'm also reading Sandition and The Watsons by Jane Austen for the Spring Challenge.
If you like Ann Patchett, you might also like The Magician's Assistant and Run. I haven't read Taft A Novel, which I think was her first, and want to locate a copy.
Jackrage wrote: "I am reading Gomorra and I find it fascinating. Disturbing and uncomfortable, but really interesting."How great! I really want to read the book and see the movie.

Kellie, I have read them all, and this one is going to be a good one too I can tell!

Oh good. I loved it and was captured from the first but not all books are for everyone. I'm glad you ended up liking it though.

This is good to know. Is Change of Heart her latest?
The Drowning People by Richard Mason (who is only 20 and a published author of no small acclaim; life is not fair!).

Her newest one is Handle With Care. Change of Heart is one of her newer ones, though. I think it came out right before HWC.
I just finished Far From The Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy. I am going to begin Rebel Angels by Libba Bray tonight after doing some studying. Boo school. :-( Yay Spring Challenge :-)
I read The Reader and questioned why this woman who is saying she is a victim of circumstance had no conscience when she seduced a 15 year old boy. You yourself said it was so beautiful and yet so wrong. The boy who becomes a man and sees her in court still continues to view her with rose coloured glasses. The holocaust victims will always get my sympathy. Quite often, evil people are very charming and seductive, yet have a black heart. That is how she took her first victin -the 15 year old boy. On the other hand, the holocaust had its own momentum and alot of people lost their sense of humanity.

I really enjoyed The Thirteenth Tale; hope that you like it. It seems to be one of those books you either love or hate.
