What are you reading?
I finished The Lightning Thief - it was a fun fast read. I'm also enjoying "A Dirty Job" and "The Grave Digger's Daughter"-- Robin (30 days until Avempartha)
I finished "Promises in Death" and enjoyed this one a lot. Morris is one of my favorite minor characters in the series and it was good to see him spotlighted. I'm now starting Dan Brown's "Angels & Demons" and hope I like it. I've never read him before, but a friend of mine gave me the book to read. Since I've pushed many a book onto her, I figured I should try it.
I am starting Gullivers Travels. Its hard to get into, Im not a huge fan of the 1700 writing style, but Ive always wanted to read the story, so I will persevere!
Good luck with Gullivers Travels! I was *supposed* to read at least part of it in high school and plan to read the whole thing this summer. At any rate, I need to start The Tempest, which I shall do shortly.
Right now I'm re-reading Jane Austen's Persuasion (my favourite of her books; when I can't figure out what book to read next, I read this book) but I've also started reading Ken Folett's The Pillars of the Earth (just something to read when I'm commuting to and from school)

Anyone who has been putting off reading it should do themselves a favor and ..."I am tearing through I Am The Messenger - I started last night and am about halfway through already. Guess that means I like it. :) I really do so far.
Liz: "At any rate, I need to start The Tempest, which I shall do shortly."Liz, "The Tempest" is my favorite Shakespeare play.
Enjoy it!
I finished Cloak of Magic yesterday and I'm more than half done with Alphabet of Thorn. I'm also reading The Book Thief during my daily commute. For March I will probably try:
A Song for Arbonne by Guy Gavriel Kay
The Blade Itself The First Law by Joe Abercrombie
Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett
Master and Commander by Patrick O'Brian
Li wrote: "Right now I'm re-reading Jane Austen's Persuasion (my favourite of her books; when I can't figure out what book to read next, I read this book) but I've also started reading Ken Folett's The Pillar..."Li, Glad to hear you say that about Persuasion. I have not read it yet, but was thinking about recommending it for my book club classic read. I am always a bit anxious about recommending a book I haven't read yet, but sounds like this one is a winner regardless. Thank you.
Susanna wrote: "I remember liking Defoe's Journal of a Plague Year - I'm always amused when it's listed as non-fiction; I guess that's the ultimate compliment to the author, though!"Oops, I should have said "other" novels. I'm biased, but I tend to expect better writing in fiction than nonfiction. I actually think writing the book as a journal is an excellent device given the topic. But, it is a struggle for me to read. But, yes, I suppose considering it nonfiction could be considered a definite compliment to his powers of description.
I'll have to check out the Plague Books group.
Over the weekend I read the Dan Browns 'The DaVinci Code and Angels & Demons ' Liked the Code But didn't like Angels. Now I am starting Jack Whyte's Templar Trilogy. So far its been hard to start.
I'm Currently reading Case Histories: A Novel by Kate Atkinson for another book club. I'm also trying to get my way through The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. I might have to post a "loathe" about his book.
Li - Persuasion is my favorite book, too. I'm looking forward to re-reading it again soon for the Spring Challenge!Linda - I'd bet Persuasion would go over well as your classic selection in your book club - it's absolutely wonderful!
Nancy wrote: "I'm Currently reading Case Histories: A Novel by Kate Atkinson for another book club. "I hope you like Case Histories. I feel lucky to have discovered both the book and the author, whose prose, I think, is at a slightly higher level than most mystery writers.
Just finished Black Beauty - Anna Sewell. Now gonna try and read I Capture the Castle - Dodie Smith.
Jamie/Li...I recently read Persuasion for the first time and loved it. I read it online from Daily Lit.
currently re-reading an ebook copy of the entired E. R. Burroughs Martian Tales: am on the third book: Warlord of Mars. These are available through Project Gutenberg.
I'm reading The Rules of Attraction by Bret Easton Ellis. I just finished reading Wally Lamb's The First Hour I Believed - which was an amazing book! Loved it! And now I am in the 80s on a college campus reading about an extremely bizarre love triangle.
I'm going to start Hot Mama today. It's the second book of a series by Jennifer Estep. Superheroes and ubervillians. She writes a very entertaining book.
I am reading Death Comes for the Archbishop by Willa Cathar. I visited New Mexico about a year ago and really enjoyed the area. The book is like a second visit.
Finished If You Could See Me Now from Cecelia Ahern. i liked it, was a very different style of story.not sure what i'll read next. i have a few books sitting around, we'll see how i feel about what's here before i decide on something.
Eugenia wrote:LOVED that book.
so well done...so fascinating.."
Eugenia, I should finish "Stiff" tomorrow. It has moved pretty quickly for me, as you said very fascinating! A lot of "ewww" factor but interesting all the same.
Just finished The Sweet Potato Queens' Book of LoveIt was funny...enjoyable.
Starting Odd Thomas by Koontz
Persuasion is my favorite book of all time! The style's not for everyone but if you enjoy Austen you must read (in my opinion)I'm still working on JS & MN and after getting almost 300 pages in, I'm into it, just took some time getting there...
Just finished THE ASSOCIATE by John Grisham. It was ok. Now I am starting THE GREAT GATSBY by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Just finished The Bodies Left Behind by Jeffrey Deaver and starting The Brass Verdict by Michael Connelly. I have to tell you The Bodies Left Behind was excellent! Would really recommend it.
I have just read The Legend of Drenea: The refuge of Alta by Brandon Payan, my flat mate found it at the market under a clearance isle. It was good you can find it on Amazon.
I know Lori...That is one of the reasons it got pushed up the top of Mount TBR. Heard good things, thought I'd give it a try!
Fiona - I'm reading ICTC right now. I'm just wondering how far you got into before you decided to put it aside? I think it may be one of those slow-starters.
Jamie, I gave it to p69 and it was a large print book, I might re-try it when I am not so much in a rush for challenges lol.

Two votes for Persuasion. No pun intended, I think I am being "persuaded" to go with it.
So I think I am about to go over the edge. Along with the other four books I am reading, plus the one I am listening to, I started The History of Love A Novel yesterday and am about 100 pages in to it. Even got to the point last night when I couldn't sleep, padded out to the kitchen for the book light and The History of Love. Can't exactly put my finger on it, but this novel is very compelling. It seems to be calling me to put other things aside and keep reading.
Hi Lori! I did read Less Than Zero - that book rocked. Loved it! The last book I read by Bret Easton Ellis was Lunar Park, which kind of creeped me out. Definitely an interesting read.
Nadia, I havent read Lunar Park, is that the one with the demon dolls or something? I heard it was really freaky.
Fiona wrote: "Jamie, I gave it to p69 and it was a large print book, I might re-try it when I am not so much in a rush for challenges lol."I know what you mean! I've been reading other (shorter) books, too, just to keep my progress going. ICTC has proven to be a bit time consuming! I've just got to give it some more time to get going, though, I think.

Jamie, mine was a library book, which means I can still get it out as and when I am ready to read it.
Alos, Chicklit (as I seem to get an idea thats what its genre is), isn't my favourite, so I just tolerate it in small doses lol.

Yep, with Johnny Depp and Juliette B. I saw the film first and preferred it to the book... p..."
It's the chapters that are with the other guy that get me. All his talking throws me off and is kinda boring. I know I need to finish it, and I will someday.
