Thanks Kellie and Kristen for your feedback on Those Who Save Us. I have read a lot of Holocaust literature, and it all seems to have some impact.

Kandice - I just finished A Ship Made of Paper last night - I highly recommend it! Spencer does an amazing job at making the emotions and the relationships between the characters real and plausible.I started The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion this morning and am more than halfway through it - it is sad and beautiful thus far.

Hi Vanessa - I think the Outlander group is waiting for me at this point. I should have my audiobook on Monday evening, and the book book sometime this coming week - I'm next in line for it at the library. Looking forward to it!
Jonathan Strange is a JOY on audio. For those of you who had trouble with the book, I would try the audio version before giving up. The reader is beyond good. I would actually consider reading almost any book he performs.
I started 84 Charing Cross Road last night. I should've been able to finish it, but I guess I was just too tired. It's really good so far, and I'll definitely finish it today. For those of you who love Guernsey, check it out!
I've renewed my 84 CCR book at least 2x. I'm dying to read it. Have you seen the movie Jamie? I thought it was charming. Anthony Hopkins plays the English bookseller - I've never seen him in a non-creepy role, it was refreshing!

Yea. Even my hubby enjoyed it. I think Anne Bancroft played the main character.

YAY! That's where we got the movie too. I don't know if most video stores would even be carrying that one, it came out in '86 I think.
I'm sure you're right - I don't think I'd ever find it in our small town video store. I see that it can be played instantly on the computer, too, but I really hate watching movies on my computer.
Jaime,I loved "84 Charing Cross" and immediately began reading more of Helene Hanff after reading it. I read "Q's Legacy" and "The Duchess of Bloomsbury's Street". I bought "Apple of My Eye" but haven't had time to read it yet.
I also borrowed it from Netflix and loved it!
I'm currently reading Henry James's "The Tragic Muse" again.

I am around page 60....I don't know why but it makes me think about a soft, nice good story. It isn't to put you on the border of your seat but you get so into their world, it is like you are living next to them and experience everything together..

I finished "The Servants" and was mildly disappointed, as the ending made no sense to me. Otherwise it was pretty good up to that point. I've started A Fraction of the Whole and am finding it very entertaining so far.

OK, I'm curious (or rather, abbrieviationally challenged). What's the title of JS&MN? I saw the PS was Prodigal Summer, which I loved. I saw the comment about listening to JS&MN, which tweeked my curiosity, as I read all fiction on CD. So, please enlighten me, so I can check out JS&MN. Thanks!

Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell is a wonderful audio book, but as a warning it runs about 32 hours (26 cds). The book in mass paperback is 1006 pages long!

In between hopeless dithering, I am *working on* Paul Rabinow's Foucault Reader before I return to Discipline And Punish: The Birth of The Prison, the latter of which I don't know if I am starting over or just resuming from where I left off. I stumbled onto Foucault simply through an accident of surfing, and his mental processes fascinate me, despite the fact that I am no Wittgenstein in the making. For lighter enjoyment I have resumed Invisible Man, which, when I started, some years back, I wasn't sure how to take. Ellison's is an odd voice, and I suppose we might be relieved that Obama is his intellectual progeny, as it were.For bed time, I restarted Rose of Dutcher's Coolly. It was one of the few novels I hated in American Literature, and since I am now old and the scholar who foisted it on me is a decade or so deceased, and I can barely remember the author, I am giving it another try. After this, I think I'm going to resume Sherman's memoirs.
I just finished Empire Falls by Richard Russo...if you get the chance...pick it up...it was a harder read for me, especially with finals in the mix. I'm going to start You Suck by Christopher Moore, and I hope it's good.
I just finished To Kill a Mockingbird, which I had never read before now! It was the best book ever!! How did I get through 28 years of life without these characters?!? I'm trying to decide if I should dig into my TBR shelf, or if I should wait for the February group read announcement. Hmmm....
Empire Falls was good Andrew, I highly recommend it as well.
I just started Les Misérables. Bit of a slow start but I still love the book so far, even if it is slow :D

The library has a copy, but they are not open tomorrow. So I'm going Tuesday after work to pick it up.

There was nothing wrong with it, I was actually enjoying it. But my course load includes 3 lab sciences and a lot of reading. I haven't gotten very far on any of my books this month, except Jonathan Strange (only because it's audio and I have a long commute).
I do plan on reading it again when I have more time, it just had to go back to the library.
