Logan, did you say there was a character tie in between A Dirty Job and You Suck?I've tried to go back through the posts and can't find the recommendation you posted about that.Finished A Dirty Job today and looking for my next book and thought maybe You Suck might be good.

Sherry, there are actually tie-ins with a good number of Moore's books. Minty Fresh is in Coyote Blue, Inspectors Rivera and Cavuto are in Bloodsucking Fiends and You Suck!, while a younger Rivera is in Practical Demonkeeping. The scene I was talking about earlier is the one where Asher talks with the mysterious redhead. It's explored from her perspective in You Suck!, but you need to read Bloodsucking Fiends first to get up to speed on the story- You Suck! is the sequel.
Logan, never mind.I found the post I was referring to in the A Dirty Job posts and since You Suck is the sequel I'll have to wait and pick something different.
Jim, I loved City of Falling Angels (not as much as Midnight, but that's well-nigh impossible to top). I really want to see the series of works that the world-class glassblower (I forget his name) made after watching the Opera house burn. They sound amazing, but I'm a fiend for great glass sculpture.
I love book cross-overs, Garcia Marquez does a lot of that, and then you get the sense these characters are so real and close to you. I start caring for them and wishing the'd make a note here and there about this or that guy in the next book, or explore someone's back story a little further or so.
Ok, I have finished Heart Of Darkness (which I read for my Lost Lit List) and ugh... I had to force myself to finish it in 2 days.. It was hard to get interested in it. And I didnt really find any links to the show Lost, so it was a double whammy. grrrr.....
I am still sticking to my Lost Lit List for now, tho, and will be starting Nabokovs Laughter In The Dark... Wish me luck with this one, tho something tells me I shouldnt need it. I've read one other book by this author, and liked it, so I hope this follows suit!

Lori, you didn't care for it? For shame! I think we've found the point where our tastes differ- Heart of Darkness and Island. I'm going to head over to Flight 815 to weigh in on the Lost connection, because I'm pretty sure I can stitch one together.
wow. Your suprised I didnt like it? It was like torture. I got the feeling that its the sort of book that would warrent a second read, but I just cant do that to myself... haa haa
So I stumbled across a fun little article in my June issue of Real Simple magazine (yes, I know I'm a slacker just now getting around to read my JUNE magazine, but I have a crazy busy life & I haven't yet figured out how to read while driving yet, so there it is!) that's on summer reading. I think I may start a new post on it, but it was neat because it used picks from some top selling authors (from Augusten Burroughs to Sophie Kinsella) and asked them what the would suggestion for one-day reads, books for a long weekend, books for all summer & books to dip in & out of. I thought it was pretty neat to hear what some of the people I read would read for summer! Anybody else seen this? Would anybody be interested if I post it??
I just finished reading The Other Boleyn Girl last night. It was good. It was a little hard to get into at the beginning but gets so much better near the end. My next read is The Kite Runner.
Last night I finished Six Fang Marks and a Tetanus Shot, which I really enjoyed, and moved on to the last Christopher Moore book that I haven't read- Coyote Blue. Yay for more Moore!
sure go ahead post itthere are so many books out there and so little time to read -can't hurt to have some guidance
I finished T. Rex and the Crater of Doom yesterday, and started Nothing Like It In the World: The Men Who Built the Transcontinental Railroad, 1863-1869, by Steven Ambrose. It's very good so far.
I am about done with the Judas Strain by James Rollins and have also started reading The Wind up Bird Chronicles by Haruki Murakami. Both are excellent(if very different) reads. After WUBC I am going to start Perdido Street Station by China Mieville.
I finished my ARC copy of The Flirt...it was really good. It was one of those books where every character eventually connects to one another...a six degrees of seperation kinda thing which I love. It was a nice beachy brit-lit type book (even though she's not british but lives there now). It was a fun quick summertime book. Now for something completely different White Rose Rebel - highland warriors/romance during the time of the Jacobite rebellion...so far so good.
ScottK, I liked the Judas Strain too. James Rollins has a new one that just came out this week that I want to read- The Last Oracle.I finished The Wastelands and have started The Gathering (Anne Enright) and Persepolis (Marjane Satrapi).
ok, i am going to have to see what all the fuss is about regarding Wind Up Chronicle. I have heard alot of mixed reviews, but i feel like i am gyping myself by not having read it yet!
Melanie, I've got The Gathering on my bookshelf to read, you'll have to let me know what you thikn of it when you're done - I've heard good things about so far.
Done with Blindness, it was truly great, I loved the ending (the last two pages) although I think the novel picked too soon, and I could have lived without the last 25 pages.I will follow up with Seeing, since I already have it.
I finished The Time Traveler's Wife finally. I liked the book over all but it felt like I had been reading it forever. I guess cause it went so slow starting out.Now I'm on to Twilight.
I'll post that article I was talking about tomorrow when I'm off & have a bit of free time (it's a lot of typing!)...maybe I can find a link...I started listening to Wicked Lovely on audiobook today...and I kinda like it!! I'm only on the first disk, but I'm getting into the story. I have caught myself several times wondering if I should stop & get the actual book because I'm not sure if the narrator is painting the picture like my brain would if I were reading it, but I'm giving it a chance (I still may "re-read" it after just to make sure!) I have to say that what got me to read this book was the pretty, pretty cover...so sad, I know, to judge a book by its cover, but I'm a sucker for a good cover!
I always pick books for the cover if they aren't on my list...My library has about 3 rows of new books that they check out for 14 days. I will go through and write down the ones that have a pretty cover and look at them again after they are off of those racks. haha.
Gospel According to Jesus Christ by Saramagolanguage is great - how tough it must be to translate good literature - author is from Portugal in this one
Double Indemnity by Jaqmes Cain
Great Expectations on CD when traveling form here to there
Saramago is my favorite author Jim, have you read any others by him? I am going to read either Stone Raft or Gospel by him, soon...
I left Eclipse at a friend's house and won't be able to read it until Sunday :(. I'm going to try to finish Prince Caspian, and then I'll go back to it and finish it the next weekend.
I just finished Laughter in the Dark. Great book that just sort of pulled you with the flow. The end flew by, and tho the actual ending left me wanting a little bit more in way of explanation, I really enjoyed it.
I am going to be reading Lancelot by Percy for myspaces Sawyers Book Club but that doesnt start till sunday, so till then, I will try to squeeze in The Pearl by Steinbeck (its really short and another in the long Lost Lit List)

I'm reading Vince Flynn, Term Limits. It's my first Flynn novel and I'm impressed with his portrayal of the political process, the personalities and the conflicts between the people's needs and the needs of their representatives.I'm also reading Francine Prose, Reading like a writer and really enjoying her take on literature.
CJ
I am reading The Wild Trees by Richard Preston and Next of Kin by Roger Fouts. I just finished reading Nim Chimpsky; incredibly sad. So much about the world of primatology is coming out, and is very heartbreaking. Any one else finding their field rewarding, yet tearing at your heart strings?
"Unaccustomed Earth" by Jhumpa Lahiri (sp?), the author of "The Namesake". It's a book of short stories and novellas - quite informative about the Indian culture and traditions. Enjoying it so far ...
I just finished Killing Floor... Mandy thanks for the recommendation, I really enjoyed it!Now moving on to Witch of Portobello...
Lori - I hated The Pearl (and I really like Steinbeck). It may have had something to do with being assigned reading three years in a row in school, though.
I just finished Next, by Michael Crichton. I am a sucker for a bargain book, and I mean sucker literally in this sense b/c the book was not at all what I'd hoped for. $5.99 for a new hardcover made me go against my better judgment. Ah, well.Just started Lancelot (Walker Percy) for the Lost book club I belong to. Only a few pages in but seems interesting so far.
I started A Dirty Job today...I know, I'm waaaaay behind, but the library just got the copy in for my hold last week. It's a little weird, but I'm finding it easy to read so far...I'm only through Chapter 5. Hopefully I can get a lot of my stuff done tomorrow so I can have another good chunk of uninterrupted reading time like I had today(which would have been longer, but I was falling asleep!)
Connie, Next was the book with the monkey boy in it, right? I read that. I bought it hardcover when it first came out. I thought it was ok... but not worth hardcover price.
Can you believe I am still reading The Pearl? Its only 90 pages, but Ive been working all weekend, and when i get home I try to read it before bed and (not the books fault but....) I end up reading a paragraph or two and I pass out...
I will finish it today becuase I want to start Lancelot for Sawyers Book Club...
Yeah Connie.. I think this will be the first time we read a book together!
:P

Lori, I know how you feel. I used to read loads before bed all the time, but nowadays I'm so tired I'm pretty much done after one chapter!
Lisa,I know exactly what you mean.I can't believe it's taken me so long to get around to reading them!
Lisa,I just realized you're from Scotland. So cool!My Great Grandfather was from Edinburg(sp?)Somehow the spelling seems wrong but anyway I love "meeting" people from other countries. We have a fair amount of books in common and I look forward to reading more posts from you.
I am also reading the Dark Tower series. I read the first four YEARS ago (maybe around 2000) when he went on hiatus... Anyway, i started reading them again (in between other books!) last fall. I have re-read the first 4 and now I'm stuck again!... all of the other books on my shelves keep calling out to me. I need to sneak "Wolves of the Calla" in there and get back on track. i love these books. Gunslinger was a little tough to get through because there was so much set up... as there is in most fantasy books, but once you get going... they're great!I am currently reading "Dreams of my Father" by Obama and the first Harry Potter to my kids.
(i know i know... i have NOT read the harry potters yet. shame on me!)
