Moana wrote: "Ha! Im not joining the twilight bandwagon! Im done with book 1 and currently reading new moon; yes, book 2 is a bit slow-paced. Im frustrated with the film twilight so the rest of the saga is preju..."I read Twilight pretty voraciously, found New Moon slow - the movie...I was "less than impressed" it came off to me like a 70's "after school special".
I loved The Book Thief, Jamie.I just finished People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks. This one was really good. Now I'm starting Inkheart.
Ann from S.C. wrote: "I finished GUERSNEY, and I loved it!!!!" Go Glad you liked it - yep its a special book.
Jamie wrote: "finished Breaking Dawn..on to The Book Thief"What were your thoughts on Breaking Dawn - I've heard conflicted reviews. I'm also reading Book Theif atm.
Dorie wrote: "Linda, I love the O'Connell series. Have you read them all, or is this your first? (Find Me is actually the most recent of the Mallory series.)"This is my first and I am just 87 pages from the finish line. Have my book club and the gym but hope to finish by tomorrow. I'll have to backtrack. Did you dislike any of them? Like one more than the others?
Ofmatt wrote: "I used to read O'Connell when I was big into crime novels, but unlike most of what I read then, I think I could probably still read her books if I ever made time to do so. I hope I live long enough to read all the books that I own, much less the ones on my TBR that are still floating out there without my name on them.

This is a great read. Your friend has good taste.
I love the holidays... you have so much time to read. Over the past week, I finished Haunted Lily, Running With Scissors and am about to finish Promise Not to Tell by Jennifer McMahon. Its a creepy & disturbing book.... I love it.
Okay, so I stopped reading Blue Bloods and Loose Threads. I'll finish them another time. Right now I'm reading:
A Northern Light.

I honestly really liked Breaking Dawn..I'm not so sure why it got such bad reviews..I mean..i went into the series knowing that I wasn't going to be reading astounding literature but rather just something fun..and i thought Breaking Dawn was very entertaining! I'm not too far into The Book Thief yet..but i'm liking it so far. What are your thoughts?
I am finishing up a read from last year I started in early Decenber and got side tracked by a series, work and Holidays. The my first official read for 2009 will be Forever Odd by Dean Koontz
Ashley, what do you think of The ROad? I love it. Its one of my 10 most favorite novels. So beautifully written, and haunting....
Lori- I am on page 90. I read all that last night before I went to bed. I didn't want to stop. It is haunting and I am so intrigued. I can't wait to read more.
Ashley, I love The Road. Hope you enjoy it! :) Roger, I read The Shadow of The Wind recently and I loved it. It's one of my new favorites. Hope you like it! :)
I am reading The Prestige Movie Tie In and Multiple Blessings: Surviving to Thriving With Twins and Sextuplets. After a busy holiday season, I am finally back to work, so I can get back to my constant reading.
Linda wrote: "This is my first and I am just 87 pages from the finish line. Have my book club and the gym but hope to finish by tomorrow. I'll have to backtrack. Did you dislike any of them? Like one more than the others?"Linda, I enjoyed all of them but loved the first in the series, "Mallory's Oracle", and "Stone Angel", which is the book that explored Mallory's past. My favorite character is Charles, he is so sweet and cares so much for Mallory. Happy reading!
I will be starting The Count of Monte Cristo tonight... I am reading this as part of the Winter Challenge and also as part of 2 personal challenges, so I'm starting early to be able to fit it in by the end of the month- but I'm hoping it won't take that long... I've been looking forward to this one for a long time, so I am very excited!

I have a 40% off coupon for Borders and am going to pick it up tonight.

Just finished What Are You Like?...Anyone read it or something by Anne Enright? Didn't like it, it was weird....
Started The Thirteenth Tale yesterday...so far its pretty good. Will probably also start War & Peace @ some point tonite or tomorrow...
Dorie wrote: "Linda wrote: "This is my first and I am just 87 pages from the finish line. Have my book club and the gym but hope to finish by tomorrow. I'll have to backtrack. There is so much going on in this books that it is sometimes mind blowing to try to keep up. Need to put her other novels on my list and just when I swore off buying books. ?Swore of buying books? Who said that? Certainly not moi.
I started Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult. It's pretty hard to stomach, I just keep coming back to all the footage I saw from Columbine and Bowling for Columbine. She uses the eff word more than I would like, but I really enjoy her books and I'm really having a hard time putting it down.
I just finished The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly. It was excellent, I really enjoyed it. :) Now I'm going to read The House at Riverton by Kate Morton.
Wow, Allison! You're going from one great book to an amazing one. I thought The Book of Lost Things was great, but the real gem (to me anyway) is The House at Riverton. I cannot say enough great things about it. I loved it! It was entertaining, intriguing, and heartbreaking all in one. Hope you enjoy it.
Just finished Steve & Me by Terri Irwin. What an amazing family! I bawled my eyes out at the end, even though (duh!) I knew how it was going to end. Recommend it as a nice non-fiction read to those who liked the Crocodile Hunter and all he fought for.Listening to Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse #1). The woman who is narrating makes Sookie sound like a naive ditz. If I like the story, I think I'll go traditional with the next one.
Now going to read The Monsters of Templeton, and wait for the library to tell me that The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is ready for pick-up.
Natalee wrote: "I love the holidays... you have so much time to read. Over the past week, I finished Haunted Lily, Running With Scissors and am about to finish Promise Not to Tell by Jennifer McMahon. Its a cree..."What did you think of Haunted Lily? I'm intersted in that one.
Jamie wrote: "I'm not too far into The Book Thief yet..but i'm liking it so far. What are your thoughts?"Well I'm not too far into it yet either - I just got to the Jesse Owen's Incident. I'm afraid that I it might be suffering from "too high of expectations". Not that I'm not liking it - but I'm not getting the same impression of this as - say - Gursney. Part of the problem is I feel so bad for "the thief" - her foster mosther is a monster. Outside of her father she doesn't have too much too look forward to so I'm just a bit depressed with her current situation.
Nonetheless, I've heard enough good reviews by people I respect I'm sure it will get better.
Lori wrote: "Ashley, what do you think of The ROad? I love it. Its one of my 10 most favorite novels. So beautifully written, and haunting...."The Road would be a good pick for a monthly read - because it is a very polarizing book. I'm sorry to say that I really didn't like it. Well that is to mild - I would use the "d" word (despised) but...I'm very glad that Lori and Ashley are enjoying it. Ah - tastes - the fact that they are so subjective is what gives life its flavor.
I just finished Revolutionary Road and it was okay. Not a real upbeat book but well written. I have almost finished March and I absolutely loved it. I usually don't read historical fiction but it was so good.
I think I'll choose some lighter books that everyone has suggested and jump on the Shopoholic series.
JG wrote: "Robin, for me The Book Thief only got better the further I got into it."I agree, JG... I liked The Book Thief from the start, but the more I read, the more I loved it. I'd absolutely count it among my favorite books.

Oooh, enjoy! They're a lot of fun and very light-hearted.
I finished Guernsey last night and loved it! I don't think I ever would've read it if it hadn't been for all of the raves from this group - thanks! Now I'm moving on to The Sisters Grimm by Michael Buckley, since I need to read some YA for a challenge. This one (and its sequel) should be quick reads, and I'm planning on tackling Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell when I'm done. (The length and footnotes are a bit daunting, but I really want to finish it this month.)
Alisha, I am so glad to hear you liked House At Riverton so much! :) That's awesome. I'll let you know what I think of it when I'm done. :)
Robin:I thought Haunted Lily was a great read. It lacked editing which was very distracting but if you can get past that, its worth the time. It actually drove me crazy! And the author tends to over italicize words. Some words just didnt need to be emphasized... but thats just my opinion. Overall, it was a spooky/haunting read but also fun. The author really describes scenes well and the characters are well thought out. There is supposed to be a sequel in the future and I will absolutely read it.
Robin - I think you're like me where you shy away from the depressing reads? I really liked the Book Thief, but I would say that anyone who reads this book without crying at some point is probably not human. I wouldn't call it an overall depressing read. But it's sure not all hearts and flowers. It was worth the emotional upheaval to experience the book.

That was my favorite as well - I thought the first one was just "trite". Ya I wish there would have been more of them as well - I think I also gave this a 3/5.
