Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Selena, have u tried Tess Gerritsen & Patricia Cornwell & James Patterson books?

message 6502: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Alisha, I really like all the characters in his books.

message 6503: by Selena (new)

Selena (selenacurrently) I haven't Fiona - looks like I'll have to add it to my ever-growing TBR list. :)

message 6504: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Selena, I love all 3 authors. Hope u like them as well. Have you read Faye Kellerman books?

message 6505: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Selena, do go for the Patricia Cornwell books, especially the ones with Kay scarpetta!

message 6506: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Jeane, have u read Scarpetta?

message 6507: by Alisha Marie (new)

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments Fiona, I like all the characters, but I think I'm more partial to Cindy since she was my favorite character in the Women's Murder Club show (which got cancelled by ABC, much to my dismay). I started reading the books because of the show, so my love of ShowCindy branched out into love for BookCindy. But I like all the characters most of the time (I tend to get annoyed with Lindsay's incessant whining about her romantic life, but that's a whole other argument).

message 6508: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Alisha, I never seen the programmes.

message 6509: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments No Fiona, but have been holding it at least four times since it came out! But have to wait till I get a job to buy a normal priced book.

message 6510: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I have held it twice lol, seen it a few times and I WANT THE BOOK for Christmas. (sorry for shouting, don't know what came over me lol)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Started One Corpse Too Many, which is a Brother Cadfael mystery, last night.

I see I've rated it here before - but I have NO MEMORY of the plot, so I'm re-reading it. This seems a really early one in the series - the copyright is 1979.

message 6512: by Alisha Marie (new)

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments Oh, my God, Fiona! How can you not have seen the show?! I guess it wasn't shown in the UK? You should try to find the episodes online. I myself have all the first amazing ten episodes and the last somewhat crappy three episodes. It's a bit different from the books, though. No Yuki, but Jill's there. Lindsay's ex-husband is a cop, who's ends up being her boss. Lindsay's also more of a badass in the show. There's also this insane sexual tension between Lindsay and Cindy (due in part to Angie Harmon (Lindsay) and Aubrey Dollar (Cindy). Yeah, so the point of this rant, you should watch the show.

message 6513: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I really wanted to watch it.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments What happened to the Opening Paragraphs thread? Or am I just blind?

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Thanks, Fiona!

message 6516: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I was wondering where it went as well lol. xx

message 6517: by Alisha Marie (new)

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments Yes, Fiona, you should. You would have the added benefit of already knowing that it was cancelled. As opposed to us US fans who watched the show and then got sideswept by a prompt cancellation.

message 6518: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I want to watch it so much. I have been told its a great show.

message 6519: by Alisha Marie (new)

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments Well, Fiona, if you know of a way for me to send the episodes to you, then I wouldn't mind sending them. Normally, I would suggest buying the seasons, but it currently doesn't have a series boxset and from the looks of it never will.

message 6520: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I will have a think hun. Thanks for ur kind idea xx

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments just finished The History of Love and New Moon while I was at my boyfriends this week. Now i'm reading Eclipse.

message 6523: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 12 comments I have not, but I have read "Lovely Bones."

message 6524: by Alisha Marie (new)

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments Just finished On Strike for Christmas a couple of hours ago. I thought it was pretty good. Although, I kind of got sick of the whole too sugary, too sweet and cheesy premise, so I'm thinking no more Christmas books for a while. Right now I'm reading Promise Not to Tell: A Novel by Jennifer McMahon. Intrigued so far.

message 6525: by Cameron (new)

Cameron (cswagner) I'm still reading To Kill A Mockingbird (I can't seem to get going on this book). I also started The Magician's Nephew, the first book in this rather large Chronicles of Narnia book I picked up from the library.

message 6526: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I'm getting stuck into Under the Banner of Heaven and really enjoying it. I wasn't really enjoying the other two books I am reading so they will just have to wait.

Kelly | 204 comments Hi Kim. What book club are you reading books for? Just curious. Sounds fun.

message 6528: by Leah (Leah678) (new)

Leah (Leah678) (leah678) | 2 comments I'm about to start reading The Things They Carried. Well, I'll start it tomorrow anyway.

message 6529: by Jane (new)

Jane (jane_jones) | 51 comments Wow - over 500 posts since the last time I visited - I've been way to busy....I'm going to be scanning this later and adding books to my TBR pile.

I'm still reading The Crown Conspiracy but the fact that I'm taking a long time has nothing to do with the book itself - I really really like it. I'm just really busy with work and the Holidays and don't have the time to read that I would like.

Robin..If you are out there somewhere tell your husband he's an excellent story teller!!

Jane.

message 6530: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (klonk) The Aircastle that Blew Up - Stieg Larsson

JG (Introverted Reader) My edition of A Christmas Carol also contained several of Dickens's other Christmas stories. They're The Chimes, The Cricket on the Hearth, The Haunted Man, A Christmas-Tree, What Christmas Is As We Grow Older, The Poor Relation's Story, The Seven Poor Travellers, The Holly-Tree, and Doctor Marigold. So I'm reading those right now.

message 6532: by Jessika (new)

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) I'm still working my way through the Harry Potter series after being on hiatus due to being at college :/ So I'm almost halfway done with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which is turning out to be quite good, now that I'm able to sit down and read through the thing!

Jamie--How did you like The History of Love? I've been wanting to read that...

JG--I spotted that edition in the bookstore the other day--is it worth buying? How do you like it so far?

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments Jess-- I really enjoyed The History of Love..in the book club I was reading it for..some people didn't like it/couldn't get through it..but those who did LOVED it. It's somewhat hard to follow at first..but it's definitely worth it.

Kelly Lamb (hk10) | 2 comments Hi all...I just started The Stand by Stephen King. I heard a lil' rumor that it plays a big role in Lost, which is my all-time favorite show, so I figured I'd better read up! Plus many people have told me it's one of SK's better books. I'm only about 40 pages in, good so far.

Kelly
are you a big LOST fan??? If so, check out the LOST thread here (its under this folder, waaaayyy at the end) I've posted a list of Lost Lit.... and I also have a Lost Group I created called Flight 815-ers Unite!

message 6536: by Linda (new)

Linda | 887 comments Started Sarah's Key - Tatiana de Rosnay two days ago and cannot, cannot put it down. Love the historical to and fro format and the writing is so seemless. Am aiming to complete by tomorrow and make my 90-book goal for the year a done deal.

My apologies to the other two books I have been reading and left on the shelf for the last two days. I know the poor babies have been crying out for a little of the "luv", but sometimes one has to be disciplined.

Oh, and btw, started Book of Lies - Brad Meltzer - on my MP3.

message 6537: by Emily (new)

Emily I am just about finished with Well of Lost Plots by Jasper Fforde and slowly making my way though Forever by Pete Hamill.

message 6538: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) When the Bough Breaks is a great book so far.

message 6539: by Natasha (new)

Natasha | 19 comments Swallowing Darkness...again. I'm really disapointed that it looks like it's the last one of the series.;(

message 6540: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Natasha, here is a link for you. She has a new book coming out this month.

Kelly,
I found my book club through Meetup.com and it has been wonderful. The only problem I have is we sometimes have more dominant personalities come in and want to pick out every book we read. I don't mind if they are really great books but I feel kind of irritated when they are stupid novels. I just don't like to waste my time on mediocre writers.

message 6542: by d4 (new)

d4 I'm reading Everything Is Illuminated: A Novel--in fact, I think I'll go read until I finish it in a few moments. It is a very premium book. ;)

Melody,
You are so right! The 13th Tale is terrific. I can't seem to put it down.

message 6544: by d4 (new)

d4 Well, I pretty much immediately clicked with the writing of the character Alex, but was put off a bit by the story that starts about the wagon going into the river at first. After awhile though, I realized the relevance and didn't think of it as an interruption as I had at first.

Kim, Did you see the article about the book club wars in the NY Times? It was a lot about just your comment and what happens to some people in the face of the politics and egos.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments just finished Eclipse now starting on Cat's Eye until I get Breaking Dawn from a friend. I knew I should have just bought it! haha

Emma, if you like Looking For Alaska, you have to read Green's An Abundance of Katherines. I liked Alaska, but I loved the Katherines book. He has a new one out, Paper Towns, which I've got on my to-buy/to-read list.
