Cameron (cswagner) Kelly - Many times I do it just to keep me entertained. I may get a bit bored of one book, so I might set it down for a while and start another book. As long as I don't have too many books going (more than 3-4), I really do not have many problems. I actually feel best when I'm reading more than just one book.

Catherine | 175 comments Kelly, I'm the blonde - so the kissee? Ha, thanks. Your picture is quite cute as well!

I've read and seen The Notebook and I've read and seen A Walk to Remember. I think it may be me though, because I can stand much more girly movies than I can books. It's still been a few years!

message 6303: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments I haven't been on in AGES.

I've been sick. NOT FUN.

Anyways, almost done Harry Potter.

JG (Introverted Reader) Welcome back, (G)Emma! Glad you're feeling better. It's not the same around here when you're not around.

message 6305: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I'm nearly finished with Forensic Nurse which is pretty awful and I'm only finishing it because I hate giving up on books.

message 6306: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 204 comments Why is it awful Petra X? Is it because it's too much like a school textbook for college or am I way off track.

message 6307: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments I just finished The Story of Edgar Sawtelle: A Novel
I am so darn mad I could throw this book across the room. 562 pages I trudged thru and to get to an ending like that? I obviously missed something. There has to be some resolution but I am not seeing it.

For those of you who have read this, I would love to hear what you thought of the book. Especially your feelings about the ending. (send me a note in my inbox if you want) I just did not understand why the author ended that LONG story like that. I feel cheated!!!

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments I am now sick!!!

Petra X (petra-x) I am sorry everyone is sick but you can at least stay in bed and read.

message 6311: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Think of me on Tuesday girls. I will be in hospital and resting as long as pills don't make me too sleepy lol.

message 6312: by Severine Bambang (new)

Severine Bambang | 1 comments I am currently reading Light on Snow by Anita Shreve.
It is good... and the title is suitable for this month... :D

message 6313: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Severine, have you read any other book written by her? I never had but just picked up A wedding in december.

message 6314: by Emma (last edited Dec 13, 2008 12:58PM) (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Aww Fiona,

well it's not for everyone. You are still my friend, lol.

Although I think that while she has a lot of the same thoughts as women and girls at this age, you need to relate to the characters. That's something I didn't like about Dracula, the women were too typical. And doesn't everyone want freedom? No matter what era you live in?

Just making a point, but I understand.

I still think you should at least finish it when you are in more of the mood, you may not like it, but I'd be interested in your complaints.

Please, finish it, for me. EVENTUALLY.

Anyways, HP is okay, the writing isn't anything special. I'll read the other books, but it's just kind of, meh.

Thanks, I feel a bit better.

message 6315: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments :) Yeah, Mina was too dainty.

I need to read Little Women.

Dracula's pacing was terrible and the women were always being praised like five year olds. I hated it.

message 6316: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments I am reading THE STAND, and I have a very bad cold...

hmmm......

message 6317: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments I am in Book 1. Nick is dealing with the dead town.
I love Nick...

message 6318: by Karen (new)

Karen (karenvwrites) | 112 comments The Beach house-Mary Alice Monroe--pretty good so far she writes stories about some inner family turmoil. There is also some social theme running through the story as well.--Sea turtles is the theme for this book.

message 6319: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1098 comments Fiona, that's the way I felt about "A Great and Terrible Beauty" also. I listened to it on audio and I just found it slow. After so many glowing reports by others, I might try the second in the series but not sure yet. It may be down the road a piece.I didn't hate it, it just wasn't very exciting to me. : )

message 6320: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1098 comments I'm just starting "The True Confessions of Max Tivoli". I've had it in my piles for a while now and decided to try it. I'm also listening to "The Art of Racing in the Rain" which I'm really enjoying.

message 6321: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Paula, did you listen to the entire thing? You have to finish it before the sequel.

You might like RA more, since it has much more action.

I still think Libba manages to make Gemma very Victorian, but has modern ideas about the world.

Also, Fiona, I think Snape is good, I am very very fond of unusual, complicated, "villains".

message 6322: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Hmmm....true, but I don't think it is entirely fair because the authors were from those times.

Snape is pretty good, I don't like him, but I think I will start to in the other books.

message 6323: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments Fiona, I think we should make it our duty to make JKR write a biography of Snape. ;)

message 6324: by Karen (new)

Karen (karenvwrites) | 112 comments I have heard alot about eat pray love

message 6325: by Cameron (new)

Cameron (cswagner) Well, I just started Stardust. I didn't get too far into though. I need to stop spending so much time on this site and reading more. Ever since I've joined GR I've been picking up more books than I can even handle from the library.

message 6326: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments :) You're right, it's not for everyone.

FINISHED HARRY POTTER.

Effing awesome book.

I'm reading the entire series now.

message 6327: by Cameron (new)

Cameron (cswagner) Yeah, Emma, I finished the first Harry Potter book this past summer (Read it in about a day). I finally went and picked up the 2nd book at the library today. I can't wait to start it. The first book was so good.

message 6328: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments Glad you liked the first HP, Emma and glad that you are continuing with the series!

message 6329: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 204 comments Yes this site can be addicting and time consuming but whay the heck its fun and we all need fun and friends in this life. My opinion of course,

message 6330: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 204 comments Oh Fiona why do you have to be in the hospital? I hope its nothing serious. Get well soon.

message 6331: by Emma (last edited Dec 13, 2008 09:45PM) (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments :) Thanks Jessica! Yeah you are definitely right Cameron. I might read the second after reading Looking for Alaska.

Awww, Fiona, you really shouldn't. You can't help it, you have your own taste.

*hugs*

If it makes you feel any better, I can recommend some more books for you to read.

message 6332: by Patty (new)

Patty Walker | 1 comments hi Just finished "Unveiled" By deborah Kanafani, Had seen it recommended on the site. Really interesting book. An American women was married to a UN diplomat who became Arafat's senior advisor. She was swept behind the scenes and gives a rare picture of the Middle East and world of diplomats and royalty. She visits the wives of arab leaders and they record their life stories in the book, reaaly brave women. the author also had her children taken under Islamic law after she got divorced and ended up getting them back. Couldn't put the book down.

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Kelly, its my operation on tuesday to have 4 teeth taken out sweetie. Message is in the other section. Will post a goodbye on Tuesday quickly b4 I go xx

message 6334: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 204 comments Is it your wisdom teeth? Good luck and I hope you feel better very soon. xx

message 6335: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Kelly, I have no wisdom teeth hun. I had 6 teeth out 2 yrs ago. When they did them, they said I was lucky as I had no wisdom teeth at all. I have 4 others that need to come out, but being scared of needles (bad experience once). I would rather be put to sleep than awake xx

message 6336: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 204 comments Fiona,
I dont like needles either and I dont blame you a bit. I was asleep when they took out my wisdom teeth and I was grateful because I have had three teeth pulled while awake. Definitely no fun. Try not to worry. It will be a memory before you know it. Take care. xx

message 6337: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Just finished Sepulchre and I thought it was sooo good. I was always wondering how the story would continue, especially the part during the 18th century. Greeeeat book. I love huge books. This one was over 700 pages and gave me extra joy.
Started It Must Be Love. I hope it is good. Started a couple of pages yesterday and had to think about a bad stephanie plum version but when I read the summary I also thought it might be funny.

message 6338: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 204 comments Hey Jeane,
What did you mean by you always wondered how the story would continue? Was the Sepulchre a sequel to another book?

message 6339: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Oh no. I meant while I was reading I was wondering what would happen next. Like when I took a break or had to do something, I would be wondering what would happen when I started reading again.

message 6340: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 204 comments Oh ok great. Thank you.

message 6341: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Jeane, I think I have Sepulchre on my TBR pile or it could be Labrynith (sp)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Goodnight Kelly, speak later today when u get up if I am around lol. Gonna try and read today b4 kids go back to school in morning xxx

message 6349: by Nadine (new)

Nadine I just finished Raven Black by Ann Cleeves. It's a police procedural whodunit that goes a little above and beyond by giving some focus to the main characters back lives. I also enjoyed the change of perspective as each chapter is written from different characters points of view.
And I have to say that life in the Shetland Islands made New England weather seem a little tamer.

Now I have to get back to the library for my next set of books.

message 6350: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments It must be love, isn't that bad. I am quite enjoying it actually.
