Laura (apenandzen) It's all good here at TNBBC!

I've listened only to a piece of the audio - it is good, read by the author. Personally, I read it. I actually wanted to look back in different parts and re-read, making the paper version easier that way.

message 6052: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 204 comments No problem! LOL. You are from the UK right? Wow. Never been there. Where is it exacly? Is it part of England. My geography recollection from school is very rusty. LOL.

message 6053: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I am near Anglia area. Do u have a map, if I said Northamptonshire, United Kingdom. You can look that up Kelly.

message 6054: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 204 comments Thanks Fiona.

message 6055: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Lisa, try the other Nicholas Evans books. Smoke jumper was good too, The divide really good but The loop is my favorite.

message 6056: by Emily (new)

Emily Just finished The Crimson Petal and the White by Michael Faber and have jumped into The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde... its intriguing so far.

message 6057: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments I read THE CRIMSON PETAL AND THE WHITE a few years ago. It was great. A historical fiction about the life of a prostitute in England I think 1800's. Very good.

message 6058: by Emily (new)

Emily I bought the book about 5 years ago and decided I had to finally read it this year. Ann is right, it is about the life of a prostitute, Sugar, in England in the 1800's. I really liked the way the story was narrated and brought the reader to different people that it felt it was important to meet. Overall, it was pretty interesting and not what I would normally read, but I recommend it.

message 6059: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 175 comments Just finished You Don't Love Me Yet and settled into East of Eden. I love the language so far, but I'm only about 40 pages in.

message 6060: by Jane (new)

Jane (jane_jones) | 51 comments I finished Twilight -- wasn't impressed. And started The Crown Conspiracy - which I'm really enjoying. I'm really hoping to do the reads for this month - especially Stardust though things are terribly busy at work atm and I'm sure if I will be able to.

Jane.

message 6061: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melitious) I started Rebel Angels last night. I'm only about 3 chapters in, though.

message 6062: by d4 (new)

d4 I just finished Atonement: A Novel--the film adaptation didn't alter much.

I'm starting on Jesus Tales by Romulus Linney next.

message 6063: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) | 1826 comments I finished Elegance and plan to start The Undomestic Goddess today.

message 6064: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Cynthia, u will love The Undomestic Goddess hun. I think it was a great book. I read it 2 yrs ago lol.

message 6065: by Nikki (new)

Nikki (tikki_nik2) | 28 comments The Undomesticated Goddess is a good fun read!
I have just started A Thousand Splendid Suns and am really enjoying it. I was a bit put off because it would be Afghan culture and I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it but actually it is a real eye opener. I didn't realise they had been through so many decades of fighting! It is also a bit of an easier read compared to the last few books I've consumed. Look set to complete it in 1 week - I am slow reader and that is unheard of for me!!! Can't wait till the bus journey home from work for my next session!

message 6066: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Nikki, another great book I feel is 1 of the best books I have read this year.

message 6067: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Melissa - How does Rebel Angels compare to AGATBeauty? Do you notice it's darker so far?

message 6068: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) AGATBeauty?

Melanie Just started The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga, liking it so far.

message 6076: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 510 comments I just finished reading a great YA book, An Abundance of Katherines by John Green. It was so enjoyable--witty, full of allusions, and anagramming to boot. The main characters are just delightful. I started A Company of Liars last night. It deals with one of my favorite subjects, the Black Plague of the Fourteenth Century. The front flap description pegs it as a Canterbury Tale type of story, which is great, since I, also, love The Canterbury Tales.

message 6077: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Mind you Donna, I keep buying more books than I should lol.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments I read Company of Liars this summer, Kathy, and really enjoyed it.

message 6079: by Alisha Marie (new)

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments I just finished Blindness (which I loved, despite the depressing feel of it) and I am now going to start The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry

message 6080: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments Oh I know, Fiona. I buy about 204 books a week and if I get a coupon...Well then things just get messy LOL

message 6081: by Heather (new)

Heather (andshewontsleep) Right now I'm reading New Moon, which I hope to finish up tonight. I'm not liking it as much as Twilight, but it's picking up more with the last couple hundred pages. I've also just started Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist, but am not far enough in to really have an opinion on it yet.

message 6082: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I have over 600 on my tbr.

message 6083: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) 693 to be exact. But some of them will be gone by the end of the challenge lol.

message 6084: by Jaime (new)

Jaime | 163 comments Heather- I really liked Nick & Norah...It was a lot funnier than I was expecting it to be

Hope that helps.

message 6089: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Just finished A christmas carol. It was nice but found out I loved the Disney version, seemed a bit longer too. But in some way I read the Disney version as I saw Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse as characters while reading it.

Next one is or something else by Dickens or Sepulchre by kate Mosse.

message 6090: by Betsy (new)

Betsy | 2 comments I'm in the middle of The Count of Monte Cristo. It's a really great book, chalk full of French and Italian culture and history!!!

message 6091: by Darla (new)

Darla (sylvanfox) | 573 comments Just finished HP and the Half-Blood Prince. I'm so pissed I almost don't want to read the last one, though that's what I'm going to do now. (I would have been more prepared if I'd watched the last 3 movies.)

message 6092: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) | 1826 comments Finished The Undomestic Goddess - it was really great - I love Kinsella's stuff - I've read them all except for Can you keep a secret (maybe I can work it into a task for the next challenge....mmmm....lol).

Next on my list is The Mighty Queens of Freeville: A Mother, a Daughter, and the People Who Raised Them I got it as an arc from b&n a wee bit back and since I'm going out of town and don't want to take library books with me - I'll finally get to read it. I'm also taking Where or When and Innocence with me.

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) No Carrie, but would u be willing to post an opening paragragh from the book on Opening Paragragh thread, incsae we migh like to read it?

message 6096: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (missfryer) | 453 comments Well, of COURSE!

message 6097: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (missfryer) | 453 comments done.

message 6098: by Kate (new)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) Carrie, I read Devil's Arithmetic and it was one of my favorite books. In High School I was obsessed with finding out anything and everything about the Holocaust/concentration camps as I could. I read so many books... until I convinced my mother to let me see the movie rendition the Devil's Arithmetic (emotionally, I can't handle to see things in a visual representation). I have never been able to read much of anything about the Holocaust since then. I am going to try to read Night again though. And I really would like to read Devil's Arithmetic again.

Total fluff! But I loved it!

Now on to something with a little more substance.

Heard so much about this book.
