What are you reading?
Yeah, that's what it's called. I don't know if I'd want to live in the world of a school shooting (I always think before I read a book "Do I want to live in that world for XX days" or however long it'll take to read it). It must be good tho, or so many people wouldn't be wanting to experience that either.
I'm a little more than halfway done with Lethem's You Don't Love Me Yet and it's really interesting. I've heard he caught a lot of slack for trying to write a "rock novel," but I like it. Nowhere near as good as Motherless Brooklyn, but I didn't expect it to be.
Could I suggest a thread called Opening paragraphs. Where ppl post the opening Paragraphs of their books, incase someone else likes the sound of it. Thats what we have on our site called Read It Swap It.
Here is an example of what I mean:Harvesting the Heart ~ Jodi Picoult
Nicholas won't let me into my own house, but I have been watching my family from a distance. So even though I have been camping out in the front lawn, I know exactly when Nicholas takes Max into the nursery to change his diaper. The light switches on-it's a little dinosaur lamp that has a shade printed with prehistoric bones-and I see the silhouette of my husband's hands stripping away the Pampers.
Thats what my Opening Paragraph is of the book I am read.
Just start the thread Fiona!! Lori does not mind :) Only when you put it in the wrong place (which I just did) *hides head in shame*
Ah.. Thanks for reminding me...A Wrinkle in Time (1962) - Fantastic book
A Wind in the Door (1973) - I was not as thrilled by this one
A Swiftly Tilting Planet (1978) - Liked it alot but definitely not up to the first one.
Many Waters (1986) - Never read
An Acceptable Time (1989) - Never read
Since it has been so long since I've read them I'll probably try the series again. Things are so different when you read them at different points in your life - I last read Wrinkle in time to my daughters when they were young. they were not sufficiently impressed ;-p -- oh well.

Robin, you're right, I doubt the others can live up to the first, but probably still worth a shot. I'll let you know if I pick them up.
Fiona, I like the idea about the opening paragraphs.
Don't yell...I'm a babe in the woods of technology...What is a ppl?. Best.
Joe
That IS a good first paragraph and I've never considered reading Jodi Picoult. Might be a good way to broaden reading material.
Fiona, you posted it in the right place! Dont worry about asking for permission... create a thread if you think it will spark something....

Angela, I have had mixed reviews on Harvesting the Heart, can you please tell me it gets better hun?
Has anyone read anything else by Charlaine Harris? Finished book one of the Sookie series and was wondering if any of her others were worth checking out.
I picked up EOE again last night and read up to page 66. I still cannot fully get into it, so I am reading The Diary of Anne Frank. I have only read 5 pages and I think it is going to be a good one!
Fi, I read PS I Love You and thought it was a gerat book. I am now reading Jodi Picoult's Harvesting the Heart hun.
I think you should continue with it Titch (Harvesting the Heart) imo... it has been a long time since I read it so I do not remember the details, but I gave it four stars, so it must of been worth it!
Just finished A Christmas Carol and glad that I finally read it. Probably going to start Breathe by Anne-Sophie Brasme tonight...
I finished The Horse Whisperer last night/early this morning. I couldn't sleep so I just kept reading. I thought it was OK, but not one of my favorites. I just started Robinson Crusoe, but while I was sitting here, I got a box from B&N with the Tales of Beedle the Bard. I might read that quickly and then get back to Robinson Crusoe.
I'm currently wading my way through Patrick O'Brian's Master and Commander. I suppose it's OK bedtime reading.
Jessica - I've liked all the HP books so far, however, I like them more the further I get into the series. I think that the combination of Harry getting older (and wiser) and the plot becoming thicker and more ornate really helps to keep me intrigued. So far I like 5 the best, but I'm pretty sure that after reading 6, I will like 6 the best...
Hi Fiona,Yes I know I spend a lot of time here when I should be reading but this is a great way to make friends and share some great ideas. So to Goodreads and friends.
Kelly, I am not complaining about u being here. Its just loads of the readers on here are from the USA thats all lol.
Fiona I also like your idea about the first paragraph so people that arent familiar with some of the books that others are reading maybe will be curious enough after reading that to get the book and try it for themselves.
TITCH - WHEN WE SAY PS, WE MEAN this book:Prodigal Summer: A Novel.
We're just too lazy to type it out. Although I do wanna read that other one, after seeing the film.
Not seen the film to PS I Love you, but the book was magical.See, told u that jargon will get me as well as u lot xx
Dont worry Fiona I did not interpret what you said as you not wanting me posting here. Not at all. Happy reading.
