Catherine | 175 comments Just in case anyone is interested, here is the order of the Madeline L'Engle Time Quintet Books:

A Wrinkle in Time (1962)
A Wind in the Door (1973)
A Swiftly Tilting Planet (1978)
Many Waters (1986)
An Acceptable Time (1989)

message 6002: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Yeah, that's what it's called. I don't know if I'd want to live in the world of a school shooting (I always think before I read a book "Do I want to live in that world for XX days" or however long it'll take to read it). It must be good tho, or so many people wouldn't be wanting to experience that either.

message 6003: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 175 comments I'm a little more than halfway done with Lethem's You Don't Love Me Yet and it's really interesting. I've heard he caught a lot of slack for trying to write a "rock novel," but I like it.

Nowhere near as good as Motherless Brooklyn, but I didn't expect it to be.

message 6004: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Could I suggest a thread called Opening paragraphs. Where ppl post the opening Paragraphs of their books, incase someone else likes the sound of it. Thats what we have on our site called Read It Swap It.

message 6005: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Here is an example of what I mean:

Harvesting the Heart ~ Jodi Picoult

Nicholas won't let me into my own house, but I have been watching my family from a distance. So even though I have been camping out in the front lawn, I know exactly when Nicholas takes Max into the nursery to change his diaper. The light switches on-it's a little dinosaur lamp that has a shade printed with prehistoric bones-and I see the silhouette of my husband's hands stripping away the Pampers.

Thats what my Opening Paragraph is of the book I am read.

message 6006: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments Just start the thread Fiona!! Lori does not mind :) Only when you put it in the wrong place (which I just did) *hides head in shame*

message 6007: by Robin (new)

Robin (robinsullivan) | 997 comments Ah.. Thanks for reminding me...

A Wrinkle in Time (1962) - Fantastic book
A Wind in the Door (1973) - I was not as thrilled by this one
A Swiftly Tilting Planet (1978) - Liked it alot but definitely not up to the first one.
Many Waters (1986) - Never read
An Acceptable Time (1989) - Never read

Since it has been so long since I've read them I'll probably try the series again. Things are so different when you read them at different points in your life - I last read Wrinkle in time to my daughters when they were young. they were not sufficiently impressed ;-p -- oh well.

Wife of GR author: Michael J. Sullivan | The Crown Conspiracy (10/08) | Avempartha (04/09)

message 6008: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 175 comments Robin, you're right, I doubt the others can live up to the first, but probably still worth a shot. I'll let you know if I pick them up.

message 6009: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) That's a great first para. by the way Titch.

message 6013: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) ppl...I'm clueless too, unless it means people?

message 6014: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Yes it means people. Its shortened.

message 6015: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 175 comments That IS a good first paragraph and I've never considered reading Jodi Picoult. Might be a good way to broaden reading material.

Catherine | 175 comments Has anyone read anything else by Charlaine Harris?

Finished book one of the Sookie series and was wondering if any of her others were worth checking out.

message 6028: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments I picked up EOE again last night and read up to page 66. I still cannot fully get into it, so I am reading The Diary of Anne Frank. I have only read 5 pages and I think it is going to be a good one!

message 6029: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments I have a feeling it is going to be a book I will find hard to put down!

message 6030: by Emma (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Fi, I read PS I Love You and thought it was a gerat book. I am now reading Jodi Picoult's Harvesting the Heart hun.

message 6034: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments I think you should continue with it Titch (Harvesting the Heart) imo... it has been a long time since I read it so I do not remember the details, but I gave it four stars, so it must of been worth it!

message 6035: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

message 6038: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments I hope so too, Paula.

message 6039: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 437 comments I finished The Horse Whisperer last night/early this morning. I couldn't sleep so I just kept reading. I thought it was OK, but not one of my favorites.

I just started Robinson Crusoe, but while I was sitting here, I got a box from B&N with the Tales of Beedle the Bard. I might read that quickly and then get back to Robinson Crusoe.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments I'm currently wading my way through Patrick O'Brian's Master and Commander. I suppose it's OK bedtime reading.

message 6041: by Darla (new)

Darla (sylvanfox) | 573 comments Jessica - I've liked all the HP books so far, however, I like them more the further I get into the series. I think that the combination of Harry getting older (and wiser) and the plot becoming thicker and more ornate really helps to keep me intrigued. So far I like 5 the best, but I'm pretty sure that after reading 6, I will like 6 the best...

message 6042: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 204 comments Hi Fiona,
Yes I know I spend a lot of time here when I should be reading but this is a great way to make friends and share some great ideas. So to Goodreads and friends.

message 6043: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Kelly, I am not complaining about u being here. Its just loads of the readers on here are from the USA thats all lol.

message 6044: by Kelly (last edited Dec 04, 2008 01:21PM) (new)

Kelly | 204 comments Fiona I also like your idea about the first paragraph so people that arent familiar with some of the books that others are reading maybe will be curious enough after reading that to get the book and try it for themselves.

message 6045: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Aww thanks.

message 6046: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) TITCH - WHEN WE SAY PS, WE MEAN this book:

Prodigal Summer: A Novel.

We're just too lazy to type it out. Although I do wanna read that other one, after seeing the film.

message 6047: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Not seen the film to PS I Love you, but the book was magical.

See, told u that jargon will get me as well as u lot xx

message 6048: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Prodigal Summer: A Novel, is it better to read it or listen to an Audio?

message 6049: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 204 comments Dont worry Fiona I did not interpret what you said as you not wanting me posting here. Not at all. Happy reading.

message 6050: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Thanks Kelly. I seem to put my foot in it lately.
