Michelle (mcd724) | 117 comments Stiff is great...but as I just started and finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, I have to say it is kind of an odd combination. I loved both despite their differences. I hope you enjoy them.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments I would recommend reading the Shardlakes in order, yes. I really like them.

message 5553: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments I am trying really hard to read more than one book at a time but I just never can decide whihc one to read first or second...or whatever!!!!

message 5554: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 413 comments I just read The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas and now I'm going to be reading The Almost Moon.

Laura (apenandzen) Thanks, Susanna!

message 5556: by Darla (new)

Darla (sylvanfox) | 573 comments Yup, Burning through those HP books. What's that saying, 'a book a day keeps the doctor away'. (Makes more sense to me than an apple...)

So far I like both the books and the movies equally. But I am only on book 3, so that may change.

Kelly | 204 comments Hi Everyone,
Im still trying to figure out how to use this site. Im reading "To Kill a Mockingbird" with my daughter who is in high school. Not as bad as I thought it would be. My thought is that if teachers want kids to love reading they should give them more interesting books to capture their attention and foster their love of reading. I always dreaded what my teachers picked for us to read. Boring! I am also reading True Believer by Nicholas Sparks. If any of you like learning about the "paranormal" this is right up that alley. It was an attention grabber from the first few pages. Im not done with it yet but so far Im enjoying it. Have a great day everyone.

message 5558: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) I love the paranormal, thanks for that Kelly!

message 5559: by Amber (new)

Amber (poetryeclipse) | 19 comments I'm reading "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen. I have to admit I wasn't sure I was really going to be able to finish this book when I first picked it up. Now I can't seem to put it down! I read "Riding Lessons" and "Flying Changes" by Sara Gruen before and adored her style of writing so of course "Water for Elephants" is going to get a great review from me!

message 5560: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments Amber.
Are Riding Lessons and Flying Changes about horses?
Did you really like them?
I LOVED Water for Elephants!

message 5561: by Catamorandi (new)

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) | 1045 comments I gave up on Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. I am about to read Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. I have heard very good things about this book. I can't wait to get started.

message 5562: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 204 comments Hi Donna,
Im new to Goodreads and still learning how to post comments and navigate my way around. Im not familiar with the Sookie series. Can you give me more information so I can check it out? Thanks Kelly

Kelly, click on this link to find out more about the book:
Dead Until Dark

Operandi, why did you give up on Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close????

message 5564: by Maria (new)

Maria (minks05) | 481 comments i finished The Ex-Debutante tonight. total fluff, but i needed something light and breezy! i also picked up The Long Walk Down (or Home, can't remember which it is) and Toni Morrison's new one at the library, so I should have something to keep me busy for a few days.

message 5565: by Catamorandi (new)

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) | 1045 comments Lori,

I gave up on EXTREMELY LOUD AND INCREDIBLY CLOSE, because it was extremely confusing to me. The characters and the plot did nothing for me. I just couldn't get into it.

Also, I am changing my next book. I will now be reading A WRINKLE IN TIME.

Randi

message 5566: by d4 (new)

d4 Am sad to hear that. Just finished EC&IL and loved it very much. I'm just reading excerpts from Women's Humor, The Penguin Book of and wondering about the editor's selection choices. >(

message 5567: by Dorie (last edited Nov 21, 2008 04:57AM) (new)

Dorie (dorieann) | 430 comments I woke up early this morning and finished "Water for Elephants" and was very happy with the ending. You don't get to read many books with the setting of a traveling circus during the depression. Anyway, for my next read I decided to pull one out of my TBR stack, so I'm starting "Dissolution" by C.J. Sansom.

message 5568: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (missfryer) | 453 comments STill reading The Last Summer

message 5569: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Got 46 pages left of The Business of Dying & then I will read Where There's Smoke - Simon Beckett.

message 5570: by Linda (new)

Linda | 887 comments Stephanie, What did you think of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas? I listened to it on audio and thought it quite good.

message 5571: by Linda (new)

Linda | 887 comments Amber, I lost my father-in-law earlier this year, but Water For Elephants reminded me of him in his last year of life. I, too, like Sara Gruen's style and was very impressed with her in her interview online at Border's Book Club.

message 5572: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) What a story. Just finished The Business of Dying - Simon Kernick. Will now read Where There's Smoke - Simon Beckett.

message 5573: by Cheri Howard (last edited Nov 21, 2008 07:36AM) (new)

Cheri Howard I just finished Good Omens and am now reading Charlotte Gray.

message 5574: by Bill (new)

Bill (writebrainit) I am currently reading Robert McCammon's Boy's Life. I had a friend recommend this several years ago and confused it with another book. I am halfway through it and loving it. This man has a way of writing that makes me feel like I am re-visiting my childhood. Even though I have not finished it, I am highly recommending it.

message 5575: by Rachelle (new)

Rachelle Lori, are you reading the Sookie Stackhouse series? I just finished them and absolutely loved them! I resisted them for a while, not usually liking vampire stuff, but I really enjoyed those. Also, I heard there is another one coming out next year!

message 5576: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1098 comments I'm reading "Down Came the Rain" Brooke Shields. It's good so far.

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments :D

I like it, it's pretty interesting...but I'm only like 20 pages in.

I think I might want to read the Similarion after it.

message 5589: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Haha.

Hehehe, yes Jeane.

Wait till my birthday, then I'm getting you all to read ANOTHER series. :D

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments (G)emma - I'd recommend The Lord of the Rings and then The Simarillion, which is not as reader-friendly as the other two.

message 5598: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Thanks Susanna, I'll definitely follow your advice.

message 5599: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Ah ok, that would make sense then. Here it's completely free, even if the library has to borrow it from another library to get it to you.

message 5600: by Emma (last edited Nov 21, 2008 01:32PM) (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments It's free here too.

That sucks Fiona.

Jackie, any suggestions?

I'm up for anything. :)
