What are you reading?
I finished Peony in Love last night, and really enjoyed it. I shall now pass it on to my mother, who is passing on The Friday Night Knitting Club to me. Not sure if that's what I'll read next, though.
Laura - thank you so much for the warning, and the personal message. I have to admit that I carried on reading .... I was over half way through, had nothing else to read (well, nothing I was in the mood for!!) and couldn't stop myself from finishing True To Form! BUT I will now go back and read the first two, and maybe the third again. I didn't realise that this was the third in the series, and there was no warning or hint on the 'blurb' .... I hope I haven't spoilt it all too much!
Finished The Other Boleyn Girl last night. I really enjoyed it, although I felt that the end dragged a bit. Now I'm finally going to partake of the Harry Potter phenomenon...:)
Justed join the site. Looking for a good January Pick. We just finished The Lace Reader (loved it) and the The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (loved it). I am leaning towards The Book Thief. Any thoughts? Adele
So I left my book at home (the horror) but I had Living Dead in Dallas in my car (it is my keep in car for emergencies book). So I started that. I will now have to finish this one now.
Darla, you've never read Harry Potter??? I just started one of my friends on reading it. Her parents didn't let her read it when she was growing up, so now I have loaned her the books and she loves them! I need to re-read it sometime soon!
You're welcome, Suzie.Adele - you'll get alot of fans of the Book Thief here, in fact, I'm on the waiting list at the library for it because of this place. Usually I'm not one to dive into YA, but (you know who you are) I've been doing that fairly frequently lately.
I'm not sure how the rabbit talk started, but I'll second the fact that some bunnies can be vicious. Long story short: a bunny peed in my eye once.Currently reading: Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.
I've heard a lot of hype about it, but thirteen pages in, and I'm thinking maybe it's justified hype.
I have never even heard about it. I don't even know what the premise of the book is... what is it???
I was actually planning to read Everything Is Illuminated first because I loved the movie and because of the title being a Kundera reference; however, my niece read EL&IC and so I'm reading it since she already has it checked out from the library. I didn't notice how widely popular it is until I was browsing through the discussions here.
Kathryn: Being only 13 pages into it, I don't know much so far except that it's about a 9 year old boy whose father recently died. But the character instantly drew me in as being very humorous, intelligent, and touching.
Kathryn... When Harry Potter came out, I wasn't really into fantasy (which is probably my favorite genre now... funny how taste changes) Everyone kept raging about them, but I wasn't that interested. I didn't even see the first movie until the second one was already out. Between then and now I've watched all the movies and enjoyed them, but there was always other books I wanted to read. Now that I've borrowed them, I don't have a choice. So far I'm enjoying it :)
Side note: I do feel a little more self conscious about never reading the HP series after learning that my 84 year old grandmother has read the whole series. :)
I actually read most of the HP books when I was younger--I had to read the first one for a "Battle of the Books" club I was in when I was 12 or 13--but lost interest when the movies came out. I probably developed a bad association after sitting in the theater so long that my bottom hurt, LOL. Even when I was reading the series, I never understood such fanaticism about it though. (A girl I went to high school with was actually proposed to at a HP convention, and I did think that was sweet just because she and her fiance were both very into it.)
Kathryn - click on this link and then go read it. You won't be disappointed.Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
I loved HP, but I didn't start to read it until after the 4th one was out. I had tried the first one several times, but I just couldn't get into it and stopped before he even got to Hogwarts. I hated the movies. Terrible rendition of the books. Anyway, yeah, that is when the obsession started. Still Not found of the 1st amd 5th books, but I love the others!
Ofmatt, I just saw your post #5700 in my update feed and it intrigued me. How, exactly, do you go about getting a bunny to pee in your eye?
Finished the audio of The Story of Edgar Sawtelle....I was way disappointed in the ending.....I have little over 100pgs of Jane Eyre.....
7th Heaven by James Patterson. I've also got Double Cross that I need to read. I'm a little behind on his books. This site has me reading other genres. I love it!
HOW TO GET A BUNNY TO PEE IN YOUR EYEby Ofmatt
Step 1. Have a very mean-tempered bunny. (I think the pet store sold me a wild one.)
Step 2. Attempt to pick up bunny.
Step 3. Allow bunny to leap from your arms (scratching you in the process), while it is simultaneously urinating.
Step 4. To get the full effect, wear contacts so it burns extra.
MariaThanks for the comment about the 3 Miss Margarets.
I just started but it seems to be pretty good so far.
Started The Thirteenth Tale...not far into it at all, maybe 3 or 4 chapters, but it is holding my interest.
Ofmatt... ewwwwww. just ewwww....
Everyone is reading some really great stuff....
I am currently reading Half-Past Nowhere. Its a book by goodreads author Joseph Cavano, who is also a member in this group.
Hi Joe!
It takes place in my neck of the woods. I started this over the weekend and am a little over half way through. Its his first novel and follows the main character through different times in his life. It's obvious its a first novel, and also obvious its taken somewhat from his past experiences, but it's a decent read.
I'm also trying to find time to read Brain Droppings by the late great George Carlin... Im not very good at juggling two books at once tho....

Read Of Human Bondage not long ago. A friend of mine started me on W. Somerset Maugham's books. If you like it, then maybe you should check out Christmas Holiday--fitting for the season, and without the sap of most books that take place during the holidays.
Will finish TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE - MITCH ALBOM today. Will read THE BUSINESS OF DYING - SIMON KERNICK.
concerning the rabbit talk?did any of you ever read Watership Down. its so weird and funny. un epic tale featuring bunnies. I really enojyed it
I finished First Among Sequels Sunday night. It was probably my least favorite Thursday Next book, but it was still pretty good. Now I'm starting The Book Thief.
I keep hearing that, and I hate books that make my cry! I'm a little worried, but I'm more curious than worried, so we'll see what happens...
JG, I never cried when I read it. Its just what other ppl told me as well. I did cry at Private Peaceful - Michael Morpurgo book.
Just finished TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE - MTCH ALBOM. Will now read THE BUSINESS OF DYING - SIMON KERNICK
Ofmatt, since you brought up the proposal at an HP convention, I have to share my story. My fiance and I are both HP crazy and for our three year anniversary, my gift was Snape's wand and my engagement ring was on the wand. It was so fitting for us, I loved it!
I just finished The Crazy School...liked this one better than her first. Next I'm on to Cakewalk by Lee Smith.
How freaky is this - as i just finished saying I finished reading The Crazy School this morning and I decided to pop over to msn - well the first thing I see is the story about the 30 year anniversary of Jonestown - and Jonestown is mentioned in the book and one of the characters participated in the event. Weird coincidence?
Haha the bunny stories are hilarious! (though I'm sure it's not all that hilarious to have a bunny pee in your eye!!)I've just started reading The Historian but I'm so tired every time I pick it up I just want to go to sleep!
LOL Fiona, I'm sure it's not the book - I am just really tired! As soon as I sit down I want to nod off! I think an early night is called for.
JG- I had devoured all of the Thursday Next novels, then really couldn't get into First Among Sequels either. I actually set it aside- if that is the one where her son is grown. At the time, I figured maybe I was just a little burned out on the series and would return to it later. I am well into The Devil in the White City now, which is turning out to be very good. I have to finish by Thursday for my IRL book club. Work has been busy for the last couple of weeks- I wanted to be farther into EL & IC by now, but have barely started.
I am still waiting for my copy of Good Omens to come in so in the meantimme I am reading A Great and Terrible Beauty because of (G)Emma
