Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments I could never be bookless.
They practically jump off the shelf at me when I'm looking for one!

message 5252: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Yeah, it's a weird feeling. :(

Or as you would say

:(

:(

:(

did you finish JE?

message 5253: by Kristie (new)

Kristie (spedkristie) I'm listening to The Story of Edgar Sawtelle....I am loving this book....I listen while I drive....I keep gasping and cursing and reacting out loud to this book.

The Historian I also listened to....I couldn't imagine reading it...there are so many areas that are extremely dry and boring....I liked the story, I just think there was too much nonsense.

message 5254: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) How long did it take you Kristie, to get into Sawtelle, cuz I've tried and it ain't workin'.

DAMN that EL&IC it's impossible to follow!

message 5255: by Tricia (new)

Tricia Mcwilliams | 28 comments I finished Thank You For All Things by Sandra Kring night before last. I really liked it. I woke my daughter up to give her a overview of parts of it. She reads most of the books I do but things can easily upset her so I told her I wouldn't recommend her reading it. Basically, it's about a dysfunctional families road to healing as seen through the eyes of a very bright 11 year girl.

I started Double Cross by James Patterson last night. I was on page 110 before I knew it. He's one of my favorite authors.

message 5256: by Kristie (new)

Kristie (spedkristie) I loved it immediately....I'm a special ed teacher by trade so any sort of disability catches me. Then I LOVE DOGS so it just kept me interested...about an hour of listening it picked up speed!

message 5257: by Atishay (new)

Atishay | 1451 comments Tricia, James Patterson is good indeed. I read his 'The 5th Horseman' and I liked it. Have you read his 'Along came a spider' ?

message 5258: by Kristie (new)

Kristie (spedkristie) James Patterson is my quick easy cake read. Love the women's murder club....read a lot of the alex cross series (fairy tale names)

message 5259: by Atishay (new)

Atishay | 1451 comments I agree completely.

message 5260: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I am awaiting Cross County from JP for xmas. Hubby buying me a copy. Also he is buying me 8th Confession from JP for my b/day lol.

OOOOOOOO can't wait now lol.

message 5261: by Corinna (new)

Corinna (coekoemo) | 40 comments Well, I finished Jane Eyre a few days ago. Amazing, I really enjoyed it.
Then, due to a lack of available books on sunday, I started on the Da Vinci Code. But could not get into it. I know that it appears you eiter love or hate the book. I just had no real interest in it.

So, a trip to the library later, I am now sticking to "must reads" which I previously neglected. I just started 1984. And so far I quite like it.

Laura - I know what you mean with a follow up to EL&IC, I guess that may be part of the reason why I just could not get into Love in te time of cholera. Good luck finding something suitable, though.

message 5262: by Tricia (new)

Tricia Mcwilliams | 28 comments Atishay, no I haven't read Along Came A spider yet. 1st To Die is the only one I've read. After reading that one I knew I would probably like anything by JP but I wasn't reading many books for a few years.

message 5263: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Susanna, do you plan to read the other No1 ladies' detective agency? when i read one of them I could jsut read the whole serie in one time!!

Laura, read The historian if you want a heavy long story. Didn't think it was heavy but a bit long. I so want you to read it and like it!!!!! And maybe take something light for in between.

message 5264: by Emily (new)

Emily Currently reading The Cloud Sketcher by Richard Raynor at home and The Crimson Petal and the White by Michael Farber on the train. Just started the latter this morning and already enjoying it, he sucks you in immediately.

message 5265: by Mandi (new)

Mandi | 1 comments I just finished the book A wanted Man by Linda Lael Miller and I am now reading the third book in the stone creek series the rustler. I love her books and have been reading her for awhile now trying to catch up on all the series! I am also reading Dangerous Pleasures by Bertrice Small So far very good I have read all the others in the pleasure series and have loved them all

message 5266: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments I finished TWILIGHT last night. I loved it! Now I am now finishing ANIMAL FARM.

And the library called and NEW MOON is in so I am going to go pick it up.

message 5267: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Oh Ann,

I just checked and you read AGATB!

What did you think of it?

And what did you like about Twilight?

message 5268: by Alycia (new)

Alycia (malfoyfangirl) | 22 comments I am reading Death By Sudoku by Kaye Morgan
The Crafty Teddy by John J Lamb
Pirates of the Caribbean, Jack Sparrow: Poseidon's Peak by Rob Kidd
Princess in Training by Meg Cabot

I like to read young adult/tween/teen books while reading stories that are more adult or take a lot of brain energy, such as mysteries.

Twilight is great! I have read the entire saga 3 times within two weeks, it is highly addictive.

message 5269: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I'm on p159 so far and I have no idea whether to carry on. 1 person I spoke to said it explains at the end why and I really am tryin to understand her and the book.

GRRRR thats how I feel at the moment about this book. I can't just drop it and hope to go back to it, as its a library book.

OH HELP!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Jeane - Probably I shall read the entire series eventually. I shall keep my eye out for the titles, certainly!

message 5271: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Gave up on Almost Moon. So will now read Faithless - Karin Slaughter.

message 5272: by Kristie (new)

Kristie (spedkristie) Almost Moon was horrible IMO......so disappointing....I actually threw the book when I was finished....I felt as though I was wasting my time reading it..

126 pgs to go in Jane Eyre!!!

message 5273: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 175 comments I actually liked The Almost Moon, but was distubed by it at the same time. I can understand not liking it thought, it was a little intense and slow in a few parts.

message 5274: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 175 comments Picked up I Love you, Beth Cooper to carry around and am about 300 pages into The Historian, which I'm loving, by the way!

message 5275: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments LOL KF I have a problem throwing books when they are not what I wanted in the end!

message 5276: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Catherine, I never understood why she killed her. I could never do that.

message 5277: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Historian...maybe after Curious Incident...It does look like it will be good, I'm just not into the 'lots of history slow parts' type thing. But it seems to catch you up from the beginning.

message 5278: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 175 comments Fiona, I actually had to put The Almost Moon down after a few parts just because it was so brutal/out of my league. But in the end, I felt like it was good story telling and like being disturbed from time to time.

message 5279: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 175 comments Laura, it's weird, I didn't think I was in the right mindset for anything historical, but The Historian seems so beautifully written that it hasn't bothered me. I keep getting caught up in these gorgeous sentences that make up for anything I might find slow.

message 5280: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Oh cool, gorgeous sentences - right up my alley. I've been audio-ing (mostly, and reading too) Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, and I really like it, but it's can be heavy in some rather boring history sometimes, so I really didn't want to have 2 of those at once.

Would you say it's spooky at all? Suspenseful, maybe?

message 5281: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Catherine, I read her The Lovely Bones. I was ok with that. But for some strange reason, I couldn't get into that.

message 5282: by Terri (new)

Terri (terrisa-uk) Fiona I was the same with The Almost Moon - I just couldn't read it and didn't finish it in the end. I enjoyed Lovely Bones and Lucky though.

I've just finished Vernon God Little (ugh) and now am looking for something light and happy to read!! Can't decide what though!

message 5283: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Suzie - Try 13th Tale, I see it on your TBR-owned shelf. It's not light and happy, exactly, but it's not depressing and it'll hook you from the start. Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver is also a terrific book. I highly recommend it. Oh and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society this one takes place during WWII, but it is heartwarming and just lovely. Any of those should fit the bill for ya!

message 5284: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Laura, did Diane Setterfield write 13th Tale?

message 5285: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Yes, and it is terrific. As far as I know, that's her only book so far.

message 5286: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I have it on my TBR pile as well lol.

message 5287: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Oh Fiona. You've got some reading to do, girl.

Guernsey. Prodigal. 13th.

I feel like there're more. Hm..

message 5288: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) These are the ones we've discussed. Right? Prodigal Summer, right?

13th Tale - I just mention it for you cuz I didn't know you hadn't read it.

Didn't TNBBC read that together before I got here. Did you not join in on that one?

message 5289: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Fi, when I finish it. I can send it to you hun xxxx

message 5290: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) I've never read that one (heard of it tho). You were here before me tho right?

I think I joined TNBBC in 8/08 or 9/08. Although it seems like it's been years.

message 5291: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) The Other Fiona - if you're still here - what are you reading now? You're not reading 13th Tale now, are you?

message 5292: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Wow, I always thought you'd been around forever from your posts!

I never actually "introduced" myself here. I can't remember what inspired me to start posting, but I didn't lurk for very long before I just jumped in. Everyone seemed so friendly.

message 5293: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) No Laura, I am goin to finish off Faithless - Karin Slaughter. I started that a while ago.

message 5294: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Do you plan what you're going to read next while you're reading your current one?

message 5295: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I wanted to read Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon. But I borrowed it from library. Just tried to read it. When I get bored of a book (which is a bad sayin lol). I tend to go back to a great book or author I like readin instead. I wanna finish the series she wrote.

message 5296: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1098 comments You will have to let me know if you hated my advice to finish it Fiona. LOL I won't be offended.

message 5297: by Ann from S.C. (last edited Nov 14, 2008 06:51PM) (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments (G)Emma, I loved AGATB. And the same with TWILIGHT. They both made me feel so young!

I just finished ANIMAL FARM. It was short, and sad. I have had it on my shelve for a while, and I am glad I finally read it.

I started EAST OF EDEN and I am remembering how much I love the way Steinbeck writes. THE PEARL is one I read for a book club a few years ago and I really enjoyed it.

message 5298: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cyndil62) | 253 comments I have been struggling with Belong to Me by Marisa de los Santos. Not real sure what is up; it's a good story but I guess I was expecting great after reading her first book Love Walked In. Like Fiona, I have added so many books to my TBR list but it seems I am always adding more! I put on hold at the library and just picked up Adventure Divas by Holly Morris. Has anyone heard anything about this book? The reviews seem mixed.

message 5299: by Atishay (new)

Atishay | 1451 comments Hi Suzie, I've Vernon God Little on my TBR. Is it bad? :(

message 5300: by Terri (new)

Terri (terrisa-uk) Laura - I think I will try The 13th Tale ... thanks for the recommendation! But first I will see if Two Caravans arrives today - I need to read that for a book group and have been waiting a while for it, so hoping it arrives today!!
Atishay, it may be my frame of mind at the moment, but I did find it really depressing - nothing uplifting about it at all. Of course, I knew the subject wouldn't be a bundle of laughs, but I didn't expect the whole feeling of the book to be so sad and despairing. Don't let me put you off though - give it a try!
