I'm now starting How to be Good. I have East of Eden and Extremely Close in the wings waiting to be read, but first things first.

Krista (findyourshimmy) | 382 comments Seriously, this thread just keeps getting longer and longer. I'm gone for a day and a half and it takes me an hour just to get through one thread...

I'm still reading the science book, but I'll be done with it in time for book club tomorrow. Last night I needed a small break from it so I started A Great and Terrible Beauty. (plugs ears from (G)Emma squealing)

I'm also finising Breaking Dawn on audio. I read the books when they first came out but am enjoying a second go round with audio on each. Once I finish this last Stephenie Meyer audio book then I'll start Harry Potter on audio - again I've read the books but want to enjoy them again and audio is just so convenient without breaking into my "reading" time. :-)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Still plowing my way through Three Musketeers.

I've read Around the World in Eighty Days, but it's been a long time. The 1950's movie can be fun, too.

message 5105: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 437 comments I am finishing up the Fablehave series today. I'm reading the 3rd one Grip of the Shadow Plague. It is YA fantasy. I love the series so far.

I also go East of Eden and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close from the library today. I'm not sure which I will tackle first.

message 5106: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments Catherine I loved the Historian and I didn't finish NEtherland maybe cause it hits too close to home but many said they loved it. Enjoy!!!

message 5107: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) I finished Around the World in 80 Days today and it was even better than I remembered from my childhood. Just the task Phileas Fogg faces and the obstacles that pop up would make for a fabulous story, but the element of a cat-and-mouse chase really puts this book over the top! I highly recommend it for anyone who loves grand adventure stories.

I can see why Jules Verne is touted as one of the finest French authors. He is deserving of all accolades!

Next, I'll be starting my nomination for the group read: East of Eden

message 5108: by Maria (new)

Maria (minks05) | 481 comments i'm STILL on Company of Liars. however, i've broken the 200 page mark, so maybe i'll pick up the pace now.

i have to pick up Loving Frank for the library book club, the discussion is next monday.

*sigh* so much to read, and darn work gets in the way...

message 5113: by Dorie (new)

Dorie (dorieann) | 430 comments Maria, good luck with Company of Liars. I gave up a little after page 400. I've set it aside hoping I'll be able to go back at one point and finish it. It was good, but seemed to be dragging on forever.

message 5114: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Finished Cross Country by James Patterson on the weekend, at the moment reading Lonely Planet Bali & Lombok to do some research before our holiday. Hoping to start Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch on the weekend.

Carrie (missfryer) | 453 comments Mandy, I'm reading GOOD OMENS now ... so good...

message 5116: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Cool, sounds like it should be a good read. Is it funny?

message 5117: by Laura (new)

Laura (laurita) Finally decided to spend the bucks and get myself a copy of From Hell by Moore/Campbell so I'm reading that and also just grabbed a copy of McCarthy's The Orchard Keeper. Both are stunning so far. So much for getting out of one's comfort zone.

message 5118: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (missfryer) | 453 comments is it funny?!! YES!!!!

message 5119: by Melanie (last edited Nov 10, 2008 06:24PM) (new)

message 5120: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Great, Carrie, I can't wait!

Ooh, I've got a free copy of The Lace Reader coming to me in the mail at the moment, will be watching to see what you think of it, Melanie.

message 5123: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments Yay Kim!
That is one of my favorite books of all time.
Something about his writing captured me.
Loved that book!

message 5124: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Jackie - I finished Breaking Dawn yesterday and thought I should mention that I actually started to appreciate it a lot more as I passed the halfway point of the book. It definitely answered most of the questions that I had, although parts of the book were a bit uncomfortable. Ultimately, I'm glad I didn't skip this book.

message 5125: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (missfryer) | 453 comments that's great!

message 5126: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Oh Atishay, I can't remember when my thirth try started, but I am still busy with it. This time I promised myself I will finish it. But I am reading it through Dailylit(which I started just to see how it was) and it doesn't give much extra encouragement to read more.

message 5127: by Joanie (new)

Joanie | 714 comments I'm 3/4 of the way through A Clockwork Orange and hoping to finish today. I should start East of Eden next but I may try to read Love is a Mix Tape first as it will be due back to the libary soon.

message 5128: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Jamie, thanks for letting me know. I just received another coupon from Borders, so I may pick it up this weekend.

message 5129: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1098 comments I'm still reading "Isolation Ward" Joshua Spanogle. This is a first effort by the author and he has room for improvement but the plot is good.

message 5130: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments I started ANIMAL FARM last night. And am surprised that I am liking it. Then, in the bus line, I started TWILIGHT. Good so far.

message 5131: by Heather (new)

Heather i just finished East of Eden. Absolutely wonderful. Now, I can't decide what to read. Well, to be honest I'm not ready to start another book because I just want to think about EoE. It's been a long time since a book has done this to me. It's a good feeling!

message 5132: by Jamie (last edited Nov 11, 2008 01:26PM) (new)

Jamie It was hard for me to pick what to read after finishing the Twilight series yesterday, since it was so addicting. I've decided to read the play Arcadia by Tom Stoppard, though, since I expect AGATB to arrive at my library for me tomorrow or Thursday. Arcadia is short and will help me with the Fall Challenge.

message 5133: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments HAPPY DAY!

Jamie, I'm sure you'll love AGATB! It's a great book!

message 5134: by Kate (new)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) I am just finishing Last Christmas by Kate Brian (30 pages left) and then I will be starting The Luxe by Anna Godberen. I love the Kate Brian Private series!!

message 5135: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Kathryn, let me know how you like The Luxe. I brought it the other day, but have yet to read it.

message 5136: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments I bought it awhile ago too and am wondering if it'll be good or not...

message 5137: by Kate (new)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) I will definitely let you know when I finish it. I really like the cover.

Lisa | 437 comments I started East of Eden last night. So far, I am really enjoying it.

message 5139: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments I finished Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close last night and I loved it. Now it's time to pick up Hidden Power again after a month's hiatus.

message 5140: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments I just finished Blood Orange by Drusilla Campbell, which was a fast, good read.

I am not sure if I am going to pick up EL&IC or another book that I can use for the Fall Challenge. Choices, Choices...

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments pick up EL&IC..you won't regret it. :)

message 5142: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments I third it.

message 5143: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments Okay, I did just start a book that has the word November in it for the challenge (November of the Soul, which is deep reading)and I am about 40 pages in so far... I like it, but it is 561 pages, so I think I may have to pick up EL&IC first.
Thanks for the encouragement Jamie, Fiona, and Ann!!

message 5144: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) I fourth it, Angela !! It will stay with you, no question.

message 5145: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments ...and Laura :)

message 5146: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) :)

message 5147: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments I just finished a book that is going to go towards the top of my best ever list.
This book was very well written..Fascinating..

Those Who Save Us by Jenna Blum

It's about the Holocaust from the point of view of a German woman who lived in a small German town during the war. The author switches back and forth between the present and wartime. This book is actually a bookclub pick from one of my clubs. So glad I read this.
It was incredibly good...

Now I'm on to something a bit lighter. Hissy Fit: A Novel by Mary Kay Andrews.
We are going out of town for a few days so I wanted to start something a little bit lighter on the brain power. Going to hold off on East of Eden until I get back.

message 5148: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) | 1826 comments Just finished The Wind Done Gone...so now I've read all the GWTW books (the original, Scarlet, Rhett Butler's People, and TWDG) - YEAH! The original is still the best but they we're all interesting in their own way. I think I liked this one the least of all of them though.

Now I'm going to read The Second Coming of Lucy Hatch: A Novel by Marsha Moyer.

message 5149: by Atishay (new)

Atishay | 1451 comments :) Its perfectly understandable Jeane! With Moby Dick, anything is possible.

message 5150: by Melanie (last edited Nov 11, 2008 08:48PM) (new)

Melanie Finished The Lace Reader which I really liked - it got me out of my reading slump!

Still reading The Last Summer of Reason and will probably start Lamb by Christoper Moore next.
