Is it better to keep our blogs very neutral in color or do you think we should do our best to personalize them?

Also, is it a good idea to stick with established blog colors & formats or can we change things up sometimes without it bothering our blog readers too much?

What are your thoughts?

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 28 comments I think that blogs and websites should reflect the writer/owner's personal tastes and flair. I think that can give the reader some additional idea of who that person is.

I think adding things to attract attention visually is fine as long as it doesn't get too loud or busy. I've visited a lot of sites that I thought really needed a make-over. I either couldn't read them, because of poor color combinations, or my brain went into overload because there was just way too much stuff crowding it. Keeping the design it simple is always best in my opinion.

That’s kind of what I figured too Julie :)
It's great to hear you thoughts on it!

I found that a REALLY busy-looking site kind of detracts from the site’s main focus and no one wants that.

Mia Marlowe (miamarlowe) | 10 comments My goal for my blog color-wise is to make it match my website. I use the same name logo and color scheme for both.

I've even tried to make my myspace match with less success. http://myspace.com/emilybryanromance

I welcome comments and suggestions!

I love the colour combinations Emily :)
You make is easy to use and it's very easy on the eyes as well. Good show! ;)

The myspace page is a little bit harder to look at with all that ‘red’, but I think you did your best with the colours & format that you had to work with (I say with good intent).

Robin (robinsullivan) | 8 comments I love seeing the different looks of blogs - Mine seems bland by comparison.

Hi Robin,

Because we all have different functions and uses for our blogs, some may be more colourful and have a more creative flare, while others have a more professional and basic look to them. There isn't anything wrong with either, as far as I can tell.
Some blogs are more of a reflection on the blog creator and their personal flair, if you will.
They are all lovely in their own right. :-)

P. (shimizusan) | 66 comments I went for an orange/white combination. I wanted something dynamic. I always go for green (fav colour), so I wanted it to be a bit different this time.

I'm not a pro at this, but I guess I appreciate a blog layout that has a personal touch.

tesni (akhmatova) I got a background from The Cutest Blog on the Block, and made my own banner on My Banner Maker (both free). The background is sort of blue and green. I tried to make it unique:
